Egeus and Oberon play a big role in A Midsummer Nights Dream when it come to controlling other peoples actions. In A Midsummer Nights Dream, Egeus, the father of a rebellious daugther, wants Hermia, the daughter, to marry a man that she doesnt love or shows any interests in. Oberon feels like he needs to control everyone. Sometimes, he tries to help for another persons benifits, but other times he controls for his own selfish pleasures. Shakespeare makes it possible for people to controls another persons actions. Egeus tries to make Hermia marry someone that she doesnt love. If she rebels, he will have her killed. Hermia and Demetrius are two lovers that are being forced to love and marry each other, but the feeling isn’t mutual. Egeus wants Hermia, his daughter, to marry a man she does not love. The consequences of her rebellion results in death. “... or to her death, according to our law, immediatly provided in that case” (1.1.46-47). Sometimes, controling peoples actions may seem to help them in the moment, but for every action, there a equal and opposite reaction.Oberon tries to control many people, begininng with Titania. He is trying to temporarily poision her to take something he wants. “ fetch me that flower… The next thing, then she, waking looks upon… she shall pursue it with soul of love.” (2.1.175,186,189). Oberon puts the love-in-idleness flower on Titania to manipulate her. Sometimes, Oberon tries to help for the better. He sees that Demetrius is treating Helena wrong and tries to do something about it. “Thou shalt fly him, and he shall seek thy love” ( 2.1.253).
