On Friday, October 25th, I interviewed Nicole Norton, the Assistant General Manager, of Eggspectation around 2pm. Eggspectation is a mid-Atlantic restaurant chain that provides quality, fresh ingredients in every bite. Despite its witty name, it does not only serve eggs. Eggspectation also serves lunch and dinner, but it is known for its breakfast. Nicole is located at the Ellicott City, Maryland location, which is the most successful of the five locations owned by Mid-Atlantic Eateries. She was an external hire unlike many of the current managers that work there. My interview with Nicole reviews how her role as a manager affects the planning process, human resource decisions, and ethical decisions as a leader. As the Assistant General Manager, Nicole described her roles as “wearing many hats.” She said her primary duties are guest relations, food safety and sanitation, coaching, scheduling, labor control, inventory, payroll, food quality and consistency, interviewing, hiring, and new hire orientation. I would classify Nicole as a front-line manager with some middle-level manager qualities. She interacts directly with guests as well as with her employees, but she also has lower-level managers that report to her. First, Nicole is in charge of …show more content…
She believes Eggspectation is innovative in terms of food quality and how all of the dishes are made from scratch. Moreover, since the food is such high quality, it is cost competitive because the Columbia/Ellicott City restaurant scene thrives on fresh, local grown ingredients and are okay with paying a higher price. Nicole thinks Eggspectation can improve the most in service and speed, because there are often service gaps when guests ask for customized menu items. These items usually take longer to produce and it can be frustrating for both the guest and
For a contemporary and elevated meal served in a charming setting complete with a brick-lined wall, enjoy a trip to Lou Bird’s in Philadelphia. The roasted potato and duck confit pierogies with whipped horseradish buttermilk and the baby artichokes with lemon and a sunflower seed pesto are delightful appetizer options. Some of Lou Bird’s’ specialty entrée dishes include the rainbow trout with grilled leeks, sage and a mushroom cream sauce, the smoked rigatoni with peppercress, tomato, corn and pecorino cheese, the American wagyu strip steak with kimchi and fingerling potatoes and the duck breast with chestnut puree, blackberries and chicory duck jus, all of which are beautifully presented.
Another big part of her job is training of managers. She said that she is constantly making phone calls to managers around the country working on their skills. “Role playing,” is the term Jaime used to describe what she does with store managers. She said that far too often managers are placed in situations where they are unsure how to handle in a way that the Buckle Corporation would want them to. By presenting managers with situation and asking them “how would you handle this?” it keeps the managerial teams proactive. She also mentioned that twice a year, all managers are asked to please come to Kearney for a formal evaluation and training weekend called “manager meetings.” This gives the generalists a chance to meet everyone face to face and get a feel for what they are actually like as a manager, rather than continuously having phone conversations. I did ask if is difficult not being able to evaluate the managers in person and see how things are run. She assured me that the steps they take to talk with employees and managers on the phone are a big help. At manager meetings, individuals are graded on how they interact with others, how they respond to situations and tough questions, and how they present themselves. This give the Buckle human resource team insight as to how they are running
First of all, I interviewed a manager of the Smun’eem Daycare on Penelakut Island. She has been the manager for 8 years and manages 8 staff members. A manager to her was someone who has been “chosen to be the voice for the parents, children, and staff.”1 Also someone who “does the funding reports and makes sure things run smoothly.”1 Which is similar to what the textbook classifies as a manager. The textbook says that a manager is “someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so organizational goals can be accomplished.”2 Since the daycare is on a reservation, the manager of the daycare would be categorized as a middle manager. The first line manager is the manager of Penelakut Tribe as a whole who works at the band office and makes the decisions organization wide. Being the middle manager she does make decisions for the daycare and manages the nonmanagerial employees which is a combination of what a top manager and a first line manager does. What is management anyways? Management is “coordinating work activities with and
About three years ago, David and Alison decided to extend the café operations to include a larger lunch menu, more tables and extended the trading hours of the café so that it now opens at the same time, and closes one hour before, the nursery. The café offers takeaway food as well as sit-in dining and the menu includes a variety of beverages, made-to-order sandwiches,
I 'll start with the department manager, Shannon. I see her as a strong leader who doesn 't demand too much because she knows how hard it is to be there. She is very caring of the associates who work there, just don 't get on her bad side (like I am because I don 't take lunches). She’s kind of a large women, however, that doesn 't because she is who she is and she is the best manager anyone could ever ask for. On the other hand, she is also married to her lovely husband and the only baby they have together is a dog.

The egg baby activity was an activity I particularly enjoyed doing in my college career. I am actually familiar with the care taking process for my egg, since I was assigned this type of project before while I was in high school; the only difference was that I had a partner for this experience. So to explain the process for caring for my baby was fairly simple, my partner, Lily, had a schedule that was the opposite of mine and we would switch off caring for the baby evenly. She had the baby one day and I would have him the next. Having to switch off between days primarily reminded me of how actual couples would have to raise children due to custody cases, in which some are not as lenient as switching off between parents like it was for this project. So the challenging part of this activity
Green Eggs and Ham is a short fiction story by the legendary children’s book author Dr. Seuss in which a very persistent Sam-I-Am repeatedly asks his unnamed friend, in multiple different ways if his friend would like some ham accompanied by, of all things on earth, green eggs. As the story begins, Sam’s friend is uncooperative. He tells Sam-I-Am that he “would not them in a box” (Seuss,23) or “a house” (Seuss,19) nor with a “mouse or a fox” (Seuss,27) that he “would not like them there” and in fact “would not eat them anywhere”.

Examples of these groups in the grocery store is customer service, grocery, pharmacy, deli, bakery, meat, and produce. Each of these departments have a manager and an assistant. Along with managers most of these departments have one if not two team leaders, varying in title and description. All of these positions, through the proper channels reports to the store manager. Publix is one of the rare places that the focus on customer service is so high that there is power given to even below management associates. I interviewed Vanessa Cox, Customer Service Staff for almost 12 years, at store number 475 in Hernando, FL. Vanessa and I spoke about her views on management and the affect that it has on her. Customer service staff is also a type of management. This is a front office position that takes care of what was known as the common area prior to 2005 and is now known as customer service. Vanessa spoke about the unbelievable pressure applied to staff to provide premier customer service. Publix has a guarantee that should a customer not be satisfied with their purchase Publix will gladly refund the item in its entirety immediately. As customer service staff it is one of her main responsibilities to take care of these types of issues. Publix management give Vanessa the power to take care of the customer to a great extent with having to ask permission. Vanessa has had many opportunities to move up in management but for her the stress of the position is not healthy for her.
The article “Eggs for Sale” by M. A Garcia reveals what it is like to go through the process of donating her own eggs. Personally I would never being able to go through all that you have to go through to donate eggs, so I would never do it. If I were to find out that, I have become infertile and or struggled to conceive I would be okay with purchasing eggs from a donor, it would not have been my first choice but I would look into it. The idea of purchasing eggs from a donor is uncomfortable only because it is all coming from a complete stranger. I would want to know everything about them, like their family history and what might is being pasted on within their family. The whole idea of purchasing from a donor worries me because you cannot go

Which came first the chicken or the egg? The chicken and the egg is one of life's oldest questions. The days of fighting on the playgrounds of which one really came first are over, but the question remains the same. Which came first the chicken or the egg? Just look at the question, it is a very tough one. How can a chicken arrive without an egg? How can an egg arrive without a chicken? Many people have varied opinions on this, my opinion is that the chicken came first due to many
