The electronic medical record is used to record and retrieve patient information by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers in today’s complex healthcare system. The purpose of this paper is to review the electronic medical record and analyze its impact on delivering timely and quality patient care.

As new information is documented by a wide variety of providers, test results are completed and imaging studies are performed all the information is loaded into the individual’s medical record to provide an ongoing record of the patients care. This up to date information is crucial for providing information to a variety of providers on a timely basis for them to make informed decisions on treatment plans.
The use of the EMR has improved the Nation’s health and economy (HealthIT, 2016). While I am unsure of the total overall cost of implementing an EMR system, the benefits are shown to outweigh the costs due to financial incentives available for implementation (HealthIT, 2016).
The main goal of EMR is to improve the quality and safety of patient care. Because health care requires a team approach, it is imperative that all providers have access to the most up to date patient information.
