This report will focus on the processes, materials and skills used for the creation of the props seen and used in Warner Bros most successful movie series, the Harry Potter octalogy (See Appendix 1). The Harry Potter series was originally seven children’s book written by British author, J.K Rowling. Rowling’s books tell the tale of orphaned boy wizard, Harry Potter, who is invited to an exclusive wizarding school, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Here, he learns and works on his magical abilities, with many challenges interrupting his school year, the main issue being Lord Voldemort, the dark wizard who murdered his parents and plots on killing him as well. The books have set numerous world records, having sold between 400 and 450 million copies worldwide, and have been translated into 73 languages. The story was transformed from page to screen by Warner Bros. Studio after J.K Rowling sold the rights to the first four Harry Potter books for £1 million in 1999. Rowling has made an estimated $15 billion, greater than the GDP of 52 countries in the world, including Iceland. Warner Bros Studios, originally Warner Bros Pictures was founded in c.1918 by the four Warner Brothers, Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack. Since the company’s birth, the company’s name was changed several times, fought off competition from other filmmaking companies such as Paramount, MGM and First National, and became the first studio to create movies with both sound and colour.
