Should I be selected for the Ellen P. Williams Professorship in Music, I would apply the funds towards the research, editing for performance and/or publication, and the public performance of unknown or unpublished works of diverse, traditionally underrepresented classical composers, with an emphasis on women and black composers. This research/performance
This essay explores the influence composers had on the musical output of John Williams. Throughout his career, Williams has been able to provide his audiences with emotions and thoughts that were brought upon with the use of his musical compositions. Williams’ work has been able to capture the thoughts and feelings of individuals both onscreen and off screen. His film scores were able to tell a story in ways that previous composers were not able to.

Throughout the reading this week, the information presented in David Elliott and Bennett Reimer’s texts stressed the importance of music and more specifically, music education. “People everywhere find music rewarding, and everywhere we find people engaged in formal and non-formal efforts to teach and learn music.” (Elliott, 2014, p. 4)

Despite, having an outstanding rookie campaign, where Williams rushed for 517 yards on 93 carries and seven touchdowns. The Bills were not happy with the young running back's commitment to the game.
Over the course of history, the arts have played an important role in aspects of people’s lives. More specifically, music is something that has been around for centuries and will continue to play a part in shaping people into who they are. There have been numerous talented composers in America, but some worth mentioning are Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin.
Out of all thirty three living Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, I am most interested in hearing Betty Williams speak about her efforts to inspire peace. Betty Williams was awarded the 1976 Nobel Peace Prize for her work and devotion to bettering the lives of suffering children. The 1976 Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Betty Williams and her partner Mairead Corrigan in 1977 because the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided that the 1976 prize had to be reserved for the following year since none of the year’s candidates for the award matched the criteria ("Nobel Peace Prize 1976"). Mrs. Williams founded the Global Children’s Studies Center in 1992 which eventually developed into the World Centres of Compassion for Children International in 1997 ("Betty Williams -
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Shawn Stitt for admission to the graduate program of his choosing. I first came to know Shawn through an undergraduate course of mine, Folksongs and Ballads. The course comprised of a diversified look at American culture through folk traditions and songs, which weaves the appalachian culture in the east, cajun culture in the southwest, and a widespread look at the effect of the African-American diaspora on American culture. Shawn distinguished himself by submitting an exceptionally well-researched and interesting essay on the influence and communal purpose of the organ throughout American culture that characterized the intersectionality of music and its communities. His ability to communicate his thesis in a clear, concise and well researched manner distinguished him from his fellow classmates. Overall, I would rank him in the 95th percentile of students that I have taught in the past several years in respect of his writing ability and research skills. Shawn is the first pupil I have given a letter of recommendation for in my countless years as a tenured professor at the University of Maryland. Moreover, his prominent research abilities and inquisitive nature in my area of

For this music analysis project, I would like to discuss the oral nature of the legacy of Appalachian music. I would like to complete this project to bring attention to the amazing history of Appalachian music and the distinct ways it lives on. I plan to use research to study the different manners in which Appalachian music has continued to survive throughout the years despite the general modernization of the world.
It has been an honor to have been Renee Rule’s high school peer for the last four years. I have seen her flourish not only her musical journey as her stand partner, but also her academic journeys as her fellow classmate.
The IRR for this agreement ranges between 11.87% and 13.01%. The return on investment (ROI) for this particular agreement ranges between 52% and 58%. Through three decades, Mr. Holland is closer to students at John F. Kennedy High School than he is to his own son. He addresses a series of challenges created by people who are either skeptical of -- or hostile towards -- the idea of musical excellence within the walls of a typical middle-class American high school. He inspires many students and but never has private time for himself or his family, forever delaying the composition of his own orchestral composition. Ultimately, he reaches an age when it is too late to realistically find financial backing or ever have it performed.
Coming into the field as academics creates an automatic power structure as the studier over those being studied stemming from the scholars as those documenting [and controlling] how the music culture is articulated to persons outside of it. By placing themselves in a position of inside students instead of outside observers doesn’t completely remove the power and privilege possessed by academic researchers but can begin to dismantle colonial legacies rooted in fieldwork
I realized that my duty was to share that feeling with people in my community who would otherwise not be exposed to classical music. I shared this idea with the musicians whom I knew from the area, my family. My cousin, siblings, and I, who play string instruments, began rehearsing trios, duets, quartets, and dance music. Each week we would plan where we would bring our music. Sometimes we brought ballroom music to a park, other times Pleyel duets to my elderly grandmother who lives alone. While playing violin duets at a family gathering, my young cousin sat beneath me and my sister’s feet, attentively listening to every duet that we played. An old couple sat and smiled on their bench one calm summer evening as we played a waltz in the park. A hiker asked to take our picture as we played Haydn’s “Sunrise” Quartet under the colossal trees that shaded us from the blazing summer
