Sara is a special little girl. At only 9 years old, she’s mature beyond her years. More than that, she has abilities that even she isn’t quite aware of. These abilities put her in danger. The archangel Gabriel knows she must be protected. He, therefore, assigns her a protector; a young boy named Seth. However, Seth is more than he appears to be as well.
Ascending Angel is a fantasy written by Ellen Wefler. This book is an interesting twist on the classic theme of good versus evil. It includes dark angels or dangels as they are nicknamed. It also includes archangels and guardian angels.
Unfortunately, I feel that the way Ms. Wefler addresses this theme and iconic beings may be off-putting to many readers. Thus, this is the first issue that I feel needs attention. Everyone has their own views on angels, demons, and religion. The author clearly voices her opinions in this story. In the book, one of the archangels makes it perfectly clear that someone who commits suicide will go to hell. While I know that there are those out there that hold this opinion, I also know that there are those that this will greatly offend. The archangels also appear to make decisions and act on their own without consulting the god that is clearly mentioned in the story. I would suggest those that have clear views on these issues or religion in general might want to avoid reading Ascending Angel.

First, the author needs to include some warning before the chapters where time has passed. One chapter in the book is obviously a flashback. We then continue on in the present. Suddenly, years have passed. Regrettably, we really don’t know how many or what exactly happened. Furthermore, there is a chapter devoted to a “damned soul.” This “damned soul” is on a mission from Nathan, Lucifer’s right-hand dangel. He is to find someone. Sadly, I have no idea who he is supposed to find, and he is not mentioned again in the
Milton’s Satan in Paradise Lost is a complex character meant to be the evil figure in the epic poem. Whenever possible Satan attempts to undermine God and the Son of God who is the true hero of the story. Throughout the story Milton tells the readers that Satan is an evil character, he is meant not to have any redeeming qualities, and to be shown completely as an unsympathetic figure. Satan’s greatest sins are pride and vanity in thinking he can overthrow God, and in the early part of the poem he is portrayed as selfish while in Heaven where all of God’s angels are loved and happy. Satan’s journey starts out as a fallen angel with great stature, has the ability to reason and argue, but by Book X the anguish and pain he goes through is
Erickson provides a foundation about angels and gives a background about demons. He classified angels per hierarchy and identifies those that are the closest to God and their assignments. On page 405 of Christian Theology, Erickson talked about Paul’s insight when he stated that the law was given by angels, and humans were made lower order than angels. Good angels follow the directive from God and bad angels follow Satan’s command
The Killer Angels is a stunning recollection of the telltale battle of the Civil War: the Battle of Gettysburg. Set from June 29 to July 3, 1863 and told from the vantage points of several soldiers and commanding officers from both sides, including Lee, Longstreet, and Chamberlain, Michael Shaara effectively paints a picture of the war that divided America, from the tactical planning to the emotional hardships
In her novel The Stone Angel, Margaret Laurence uses the stone angel monument to embody the qualities of Hagar . Over the course of the novel, Hagar reflects back on the memories that have made up her life. Hagar's loneliness and depression are self induced and brought on by her pride, lack of emotion, stubbornness and the ignorance which she has towards anyone's opinion but her own. The qualities of Hagar are identical with those possessed by the stone angel monument and paralleled by Laurence many times throughout the novel. The angel was certainly not a suitable statue to mark the death of Mrs. Currie as it was uncharacteristic of her. The statue of the angel is a more fitting representation of Hagar's father Jason Currie and hence
E-E-Evil god, why am I speaking with a evil god, I wasn't an angel when I was alive, but I certainly wasn't bad enough to me the devil.
He is created as a vigorous heroic individual whose commendable qualities have been demolished by such evil actions. Heaven is lost to Satan & his followers. Milton’s Satan represents more of a futile hero. Satan's heroic qualities show how he manipulated his followers, and identified his ability to corrupt and show the difference between good and evil. Satan was one of the highest angels in Heaven who was known as Lucifer. Lucifer fails and becomes Satan because of such pride he carried. Any type of heroism presented by Satan is corrupted by this vengeful pride. Due to that, God banned him from heaven. Satan always tried to be number one and outdo God, instead of following in God's pathway. He would have lived in Paradise forever, but he decided to listen to his pride. Another quality Satan carried was his ability to give speeches. Satan was able to persuade others to follow him in his uprising. While being able to persuade his followers, he also portrayed another quality, which was his excellence in battle. Satan is viewed as a leader by the other fallen angels when it comes to the battle. While being overwhelmed with thoughts of how he is going to confront God, he is still a hero to his followers due to going and facing him
Born to German/Polish immigrants Seth was raised in rural Alabama. Seth’s father was driven by religion and his mother was fierce in her belief that the old ways needed to be upheld. It wasn’t long before Seth’s father Wolfgang fell in with a religious cult. It was around this time that Seth began to show signs of manifesting powers. When a young girl in the congregation scraped her knee Seth went to comfort her and instead wound up with her wounds.
Firstly, a leading cause of the significant change that both women undergo is that they both understand each other’s complex life situations. Taylor confronts and understands Lou Ann’s fragile lifestyle, and how she has to cope with her divorce with her husband, Angel. For example, when Taylor first moves to Arizona, Lou Ann is unable to accept that Angel doesn’t want to live with her anymore. She believes that it is not possible for her to move on, but Taylor convinces her that he is not worth worrying about. Later in the novel, Angel asks Lou Ann to move in with him again, and, “She mulled it over and over, twisting the gold wedding ring around her finger. She had stopped wearing it about the time she started working at the salsa factory...
That angel is Willow. Raziel, other angels, and angel followers start hunting Willow and Alex for Raziel’s twisted plan. Because of this, Willow is willing to risk her life to stop more angels from
Lucifer is the infamous angel who rebelled against God in hopes of becoming a God himself. He constructed an army of angels in opposition of God. Despite this, Lucifer was incapable of defeating God and was struck down from the Garden of Eden to hell. In Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, Dante and Virgil encounter Lucifer in the last circle of hell before they ascend to Purgatory. It is here in the circle of Judecca that Lucifer had been condemned for eternity as a result of his treachery against God. In my essay, I will argue that Lucifer’s location and physical attributes ironically reflect qualities of God in such a way that Lucifer becomes mocked. Dante Alighieri utilizes Lucifer’s characterization to illuminate the force of God’s divine power in The Divine Comedy.

Good versus evil has been a debate for those who believe and those who don’t for thousands of years. Angels and demons being the center of the subject, brought forward by religions and cultures in our world. There are standards that people go by to bring attention to or not bring attention to one or the other. Although science tends to disprove the existence of both, there seems to be many who believe enough with evidence either physically or by personal experience. Both represent the supernatural world, a world that most don’t see, yet some have the ability to see and experience. Is one stronger than the other? According to the Bible, demons have a sealed fate of defeat which makes angels much stronger and undefeated. Angels and demons differ in many ways, yet both are noted in the Bible. Why should we believe in angels or demons? To get a better understanding as to why miracles happen, and perhaps why unfortunate events occur we can learn from a different perspective. It is one that makes people uncomfortable, yet many believe and see the world in a different perspective.
