The King of Rock
Elvis Aaron Presley was and will forever be known as the “King of Rock and Roll.” Elvis Presley began his career by singing gospel music for his church and other events in Tupelo, Mississippi, during his childhood. His family was poor, so in 1948, Elvis Presley’s dad, Aron Presley and mom, Gladys Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee. He finished high school there and then found his first job; it was as a truck driver. Even though Elvis Presley’s early singing was influenced by his gospel roots, when the family moved to Memphis, Elvis Presley was introduced to more varieties of music. This partnership lasted Elvis’s entire life (Williamson). Elvis never wrote a song of his own but he sang others so much better that he ended up with forty-five gold records, each selling more than a million copies. With that exposer Elvis Presley also ended up in movies. A large portion of his number one hits came from his movies. His life should have been a wonderful experience, however Elvis had problems in his life he had trouble overcoming. This led to his crazy lifestyle and eventual death. This move however, in the beginning, was not better for Elvis Presley. The kids at the new school made fun of his different clothes and how he looked. He eventually graduated in 1953, where he started working for an electric company, by driving a truck for them. He saved up his money until he had enough to record two songs. The man that owned the studio where Elvis recorded, heard him and had Elvis record more. He liked the way Elvis sang “That’s All Right” and he sent it to radio stations. The owner was Sam Phillips and the song became a hit (Graf 8). Elvis Presley bought his famous home Graceland at the young age of twenty-two. He bought it so his parents would always be with him. He loved his mom and was devastated when she only lived one year in Graceland before she died. Gladys Presley still influences Elvis Presley because she always wanted him to be nice to others. Elvis’ career hadn't kicked off until after he had graduated high school. He was searching for opportunities to sing professionally until he had found a record company who recorded a two sided record for him for the price of four dollars. At the age of ten he sang for the first time in public at a regional contest where he won the second place. He earned his first dollars as a film setter and truck driver in an electricity company. In 1953 he entered the recording studio of Sun Records, a modest local label, and recorded his first record to give it to his mother. His influences were the country gospel music that he listened to in the church and the musical marathons he attended regularly, as well as the black rythm & blues music he absorbed in historic Beale Street. Elvis practiced with bassist Bill Black and guitarist Scotty Moore. In 1954 they decided to record two songs "That's All Right Mama" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky". Not only did he give the world his time and talent he also gave back to people in need (iheartelvis.net). He always donated money to charity and gave money to those who needed help. He donated toys to a Marine drive for kids (iheartelvis.net). Some people say his generosity is legendary. He always had a gift for giving (asianjournalusa.com). He’s also remembered for his generosity because one time Elvis gave a brand new wheelchair to a crippled lady (asianjournalsusa). Elvis and his family grew up pretty poor so he knew what it was like, so he helped out people in need. He played tons of charity concerts for free and by doing that he became well recognized. Finally he was remembered for his generosity because when it came to christmas he wanted it to be all about the kids and not himself. He wanted the kids to have a good christmas and get them stuff. Later that year he cut his first demo record at Sun Records, and not long after that the record label owner and producer was impressed by the emotion in Presley’s voice and decided to help Presley pursue his dream of becoming a musical star (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). In 1954 Elvis recorded “That’s All Right Mama,” it became his first commercial release selling 20,000 copies (Elvis Aron Presley). This began Elvis’s legendary rise to fame.

Yet Elvis was a very religious man; daily he would read the bible, he would never drink, and most of his songs had religious connotations. He also started taking allot of prescription drugs and harmful things that caused him to have a heart attack at the age 42. His body was buried in Graceland with his family, located in Memphis, Tennessee. The day after his death, Elvis’s dad, Vernon Presley opened Graceland for the public to pay their respects. Elvis Aaron Presley, otherwise known as “The King” was born on January 8th, 1935. He came from simple beginnings; being born into a lower-class family in Tupelo, Mississippi. In 1948, at the age of 13 Elvis Presley and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Soon he launched his incredibly successful music career with Sun Records at the age of 19 in 1954. His music was influenced by both African American and White artists causing his unique blend of country, pop, rhythm and blues, and gospel music. Presley was heavily influenced by artists such as Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Buddy Holly. Though Presley was widely known for his “provocative” dances moves and his popularization of Rock n’ Roll Presley impacted American culture in a much larger aspect. His influence on Americans and American culture aided desegregation and civil rights during his period of influence and helped create “youth culture”.
Elvis Presley was a legend in rock and roll in life. He still is the king of rock and roll even in death. He was born on January 8 1935 in Mississippi in 1948 his family moved to Memphis Tennessee, where he graduated high school from Humes High School. He was attracted to music at a young age and began his music career in 1954 with Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955 his recording contract was bought by RCA Victor. By 1956 he was an international sensation. He starred in 33 films and did hundreds of shows and specials. This success would eventually lead him to an early death.

Elvis was originally marketed as a country and western artist before he turned into a rock and roll artist. Elvis went on to gain the nickname “The King of Rock and Roll”.
