This weeks essay is about Famous Veterans or who your favorite veteran is. The person that I am going to do my essay over is Elvis Presley. Presley was not only known as “the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Elvis was forced to join the arm because he was drafted. This means that when there is a big or brutal war going on they need more troupes than what they already have. Elvis didn’t run away from his duty to the Arm Forces. He ended up finding himself getting combat fatigues and giving up his leather jacket. Elvis Presley entered the Army as a regular GI Ft. Chaffee on March 24, 1958. His hair that he was known for was shaved to the normal length. His fans and his family were devastated. “Hair today, gone tomorrow.” They say that the whole country
It was once said by Elvis that, “he never expected to be someone important.” That same man sold over a billion records and won three Grammy Awards. Elvis Presley was an outstanding musician beginning in his early life, throughout his career, and up until his death.
On Monday, March 24th, 1958, Elvis Presley was drafted into the United States Army. Private Presley had already risen to fame and didn’t want any special treatment despite the Air Force and the Navy’s attempts to recruit and give him
Elvis Presley is one of the biggest names in rock and roll. Singer, musician and actor he was an American icon. He is best known as the King of Rock and Roll. His musical influence included the country and pop music of the time, the gospel music he sang in church and the black R&B music he listened to as a teenager (Comprehensive History of Elvis Presley’s Dynamic Life). Elvis has influenced American culture not only while he was living but also in today’s 21st century. It wasn’t easy for him to be accepted; in fact many adults and the older generations of his time were appalled by his performances and his music. In time though, people were able to accept him and he became well-known all over the world. Even after his death Americans are
Singer, actor, or GI are three words people often think of in connection with Elvis Presley. Many people know that Elvis Presley was the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll, but he was much more. Elvis Presley changed the world by bringing new types of music to entertain everybody, making movies, and serving his country. He will be remembered as the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll.
What can be said for the music artist Elvis Presley, other than he is most undoubtedly the reason that Rock and Roll survived past its start, and grew to the massive popularity that it still grasps onto to this day. Although he may have been born a simple white southerner, he masterfully intertwined country music with the raw emotion of gospel and blues in order to create his own breed of unmatchable music. By him taking two vastly different genres of music from two equally different cultures, he successfully managed to blur the prominent color line that divided all of America up until the 1950s. He did all of this while enthralling the youth of America and singlehandedly caused an idea of teenage rebellion that lasted far past his popularity,
So great was the change, some of the boys in the band had trouble recognizing him. After that, Elvis didn't work for five months.
Elvis “The King” Presley has always been a popular musical artist since the 1950’s. His music was striving and is still popular today. From the start he was bound to become a musician. His music had created its own type of genre which is why it is so unique. Even from the grave he is still known for not only his songs, but the conspiracies surrounding him and his death. Elvis was a figure that was for sure ahead of his time.
Elvis Aaron Presley was known to be a legendary American singer, musician, and actor from the 1950s to late 1970s. He is regarded as one of the most influential and significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He was nicknamed “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” or just simply “The King” because he is said to have early popularized the genre of rock. After Heartbreak Hotel in 1956, he became a number one hit. He became the leading figure of Rock ‘n’ Roll after a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. His energized interpretations of songs and provocative performance styles, made him enormously popular and controversial.
He broke the chains of the puritanical lifestyle of 1950s America. Despite the media constantly ridiculing him for being vulgar, incompetent, and a bad influence on society, the power of his music was too overbearing to suppress. He signaled to the masses that a new age has come. Mark Bernardo points this out in his book “Elvis Presley: Memphis”, in which he writes, “In the United States, rock ‘n’ roll had outgrown Memphis and become a national phenomenon. Elvis’ influence was evident in the new crop of teen idols that appeared on the scene, including Fabian, Frankie Avalon, and Paul Anka. All the while, the Colonel worked feverishly to keep Elvis’ music in the national spotlight, releasing singles at well-planned intervals; for the most part, his strategy was successful. But to the legions of Elvis fans who continued to listen to his tunes and read about his army exploits in magazines, nothing could compare to the thrill of seeing the King return home” (Bernardo, “Elvis Presley: Memphis”, 134). As a white Southerner performing blues mixed with country and gospel music, Elvis united American music in all aspects, including race and color, making him one of the most import social and cultural figures in history. Elvis had a way about him, in that his performances moved the masses, using a natural sexuality that drew teens to adore him, as well as attracting a generations of rebels as an international
When Elvis was born, Jessie Garon, Elvis’s twin brother, was stillborn. From then on, Elvis’s mother, Gladys Presley, was so scared to think that she would lose Elvis too, that she didn’t let him out of her sight. When he first started school, it was sad. People judged him by the clothes he wore and that his mom walked him to school everyday. From the very beginning, Elvis’s family didn’t
He possessed a compelling style to his dance movements, truly putting a contemporary edge on his personal style. Critics consistently attacked him for his dance moves which were viewed as “provocative” and “sexually aggressive”.(A) Although many did not appeal to his “provocative” approach to dancing his nickname of Elvis The Pelvis emerged. He held that nickname through the rest of his career to Elvis enthusiasts across the country. Young women and teenagers flocked towards the new handsome young man upon the stage. His performances and charm provided him with vast and substantial popularity. Elvis was not just a local, country bound star, he was a notable figure world wide. When he was deployed to Germany in 1958 it states that, “The company’s mail went from one bag a day to 15, and German girls were trying to climb the base’s fence to lay their eyes on the singer.” (D)Elvis was a handsome young man who’s dashing smile and talent on stage made young women and teenagers swoon for the young star. “His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his
