Focus on the quote, “Great thoughts speak only to thoughtful minds, but great actions speak to humankind,” by Emily P. Bissel. What were some recent ‘great actions’ and how were they received? What does Bissel mean by her remark; particularly, what is meant by the latter part of her quote, “great actions speak to humankind”? Great actions speak to humankind for a few reasons: culturally, we speak so much but in actuality do so little, so that when an action does occur, it impacts us greatly; likewise, they touch people and inspire them widely, igniting compassion and support everywhere. Specifically, so much of the time, those who have brilliant ideas in their head do little or nothing with them, so actual actions instead of useless
The first aspect to point out is that it is profitable to have an updated mind. An updated mind could have a great role in a person's social prestige, which contributes to his success in his career. Technology and the ease of internet has made the world a global village. It is easy to get aware of the latest News news in a glimpsglimpse of eyes . Therefore, if one does not
Your job isn’t to find these ideas but to recognize them when they show up.”
Entering the fourth quarter 27th seeded Somers trailed 19th seeded Bloomfield by 18 points in the CIASC Class S girl’s basketball quarterfinal. Somers junior guard Emily Plagenza, who already hit a game winning buzzer beater to upset 6th seeded Old Lyme in the first round followed by a 20 point game in a second round win, was not going down without a fight. Plagenza put Somers on her back scoring 16 fourth quarter points to bring her team within one possession of advancing to the semi-finals. Somers wound up losing that game 64-61 but it is the toughness and determination that Plagenza displayed that would lead her into a career in sport.
There is a great difference between coming to the realization of your own potential and actually putting it to use. All over the world, although mostly in more developed countries, revolutions and amazing discoveries have been caused by single human beings that are being active about their knowledge. Some people are more passive about their ability to use their higher-level thinking skills, though. It is intimidating to think of the power that dominant individuals have had in the past, such as influencing people’s thinking and controlling their lives or making significant advancements and saving numerous lives. The song “Handlebars” by Flobots and Hitler’s book, Mein Kampf, both exhibit a sense of power, ability to influence people’s thinking, and a lack of self-control that lead to the more detrimental path of using one’s knowledge and potential.
Emily Murphy, born in 1868, was an author, magistrate, and social activist. Today, she is a historic icon for her contributions to Canadian society. In addition, the lasting impact of the Persons Case was an enormous victory and effects Canadian law to this day. Emily Murphy is the greatest Canadian in history because her social and legal achievements in women’s rights left a lasting impact on Canada.
When we do something, it may have an effect of others. Actions can be more powerful than words, and what that means is that our body expressions can be overruling than us using any words. Right actions can lead to so many good things. For example helping the needy by taking them food, or giving a pair of socks to a homeless person is an action that can teach us to be humble.
Throughout academia, textbooks are commonly utilized by teachers to convey new information to students of all ages. Textbooks, therefore, have a profound impact on what individuals believe to be true as they mature from childhood into adulthood. Emily Martin, a prominent anthropologist at New York University in Manhattan, believes that the content in some of these textbooks is problematic as they perpetuate stereotypical gender roles that still exist in society today. Specifically, in her article The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles (1991), Martin discusses at length the portrayal of egg and sperm cells during the reproductive process by various textbooks. According to Martin,
The term "death" refers to someone who is dying or had been killed, basically someone who is at the end of their life. But, to Miss Emily, "death" has a different meaning. "Death" to Miss Emily is when someone is still living their life, even though they are skeletons. Miss Emily keeps dead bodies because she does not ever see death for what it is. She does not think they are dead. In "A Rose for Emily", the theme of control is shown through Emily's interaction with her father in her youth, as well as in Emily's controlling of death.
Emily Grierson is to be tried as guilty for the murder of Homer Barron. Witnesses have given the readers sufficient accounts of Miss Emily’s behavior to cause belief in her committing murder of the first degree. “First degree murder is found when the defendant intends to kill and does so with premeditation and deliberation” (Criminal Law Murder Model). The victim, having been found locked away in the house of Miss Emily (327), is the basis of prosecution for the accused. Emily Grierson will be found guilty of murder because she premeditated her crime, was psychologically unstable, and attempted to conceal her crime.
“The motto of the Enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have courage to use your own understanding.” (Kant 54). Most have no understanding that Kant says because they weren’t given the sense to use their own understanding. I feel that Kant dares us to have courage because when he discovered his own understanding he felt a sense of greatness and accomplishment. Kant gives us some encouragement to think beyond the box because he knows that if he can do great things that everyone has the potential to do great things also. “…others will soon enough take the tiresome job over me. The guardians who have kindly taken upon themselves the work of supervision will soon see to it that by far the largest part of mankind should consider the step forward to maturity not only as difficult but also as highly dangerous.” (Kant 54). Thinking controls the mass chaos that could ruin society, yet we only have a few individuals who are truly original thinkers. Others pretend to be true thinker but in true are re-readers. For those of society who are not true thinkers stepping out of immaturity is a dangerous step to themselves and the ones around them. Most aren’t prepared to step out of their comfort zone because they never were meant to or prepared. The “guardians” have double
Ida Bell Wells, more commonly known as Ida B. Wells, was born in Holly Springs Mississippi on the 16th of July in 1862. Ida was raised by her mother Lizzie Wells and her father James Wells. She was born into slavery as the oldest of eight children in the family. Both Ida’s parents were enslaved during the Civil War but after the war they became active in the Republican Party during the Reconstruction era. Ida’s father, James, was also involved in the Freedman’s Aid Society (Biography.com). He also helped to start Shaw University. Shaw University was a university for the newly freed slaves to attend, it was also where Ida received the majority of her schooling. However, Ida received little schooling because she was forced to take care of her other siblings after her parents and one of her siblings passed away due to Yellow Fever. Ida became a teacher at the age of 16 as a way to make money for her and her siblings. Eventually Ida and all her sisters moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to live with their aunt, leaving all their brothers behind to continue working. In Memphis Ida began to stand up for the rights of African Americans and women.
Most people no longer have the ability to think for themselves. It is easy to see, if you know what to look for, there are classes at a college level, that exist for the soul purpose of telling less than capable people how to think. Independent thought is dying, the reason most people have trouble learning, is that they never learned how to
Some people may be good at developing someone else’s idea and so are more effective within a team than working alone.
G., (1958) p.8.) Intelligence makes man capable of self-direction. An individual can understand himself and act to promote his own best interests. The key to progress under the system of thinking is intelligent behavior, perhaps by carefully training and educating man to control his own destiny, as an individual in society.
I believe that few people have a strong inner feeling that pushes them to think out of the box to identify as issue and find the solution. Personally, I always try to find the most creative solution and do not give up until I get it. Sometime this energy is contagious on to next. I always search for the missing links and fine-tune my thoughts until I reach a point that works. This creativity has steadily driven my ambitions through the organization.
