Some songs simply have the ability to crawl under your skin and stay there. This is a list of five tracks that are of a disturbing nature, whether this is due to the melody, the vocals or the lyrics and subject matter. So here are five songs that should give you goose-bumps, with hopefully more to come. Number Five: “97’ Bonnie & Clyde” by Tori Amos. “97’ Bonnie & Clyde” is an Eminem song covered by Tori Amos on her 2001 concept album, Strange Little Girls. While many would argue that Eminem’s version is equally or more disturbing, Eminem’s song is backed with beats; Tori’s version is a slow, bizarre dirge, where the words are spoken, not rapped. Of course the words themselves are what make this song demented: “…where’s mama? / She’s taking a little nap in the trunk / Oh that smell / da-da musta runned over a skunk.” The way Tori speaks these words, of someone deranged but trying to act innocent, is bone-chilling, and the backing violins really get your heart pumping. Number Four: “Slow Motion” by Third Eye Blind. “Slow Motion” is a track off of Third Eye Blind’s 1999 album Blue. This song is a slow-paced diary of a “young urban …show more content…
“Red Right Hand” is a song from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, off of their 1994 album Let Love In. It was also featured in the movie Scream and has been covered by Pete Yorn and the Arctic Monkeys. From the title alone, one might surmise that this song is about a killer. Whether this is true or not, the lyrics suggest he is a man of mystery that you shouldn’t get involved with (“He’s a god, he’s a man, he’s a ghost, he’s a guru”). The song talks about being able to find this man in the “dusty black coat” on the outskirts of town and his ability to get you material things. Perhaps the most telling line is, “You’re one microscopic cog/in his catastrophic plan.” So, this song is clearly about a man of power, whether he’s a killer, a member of the mafia or the devil
Listening to Kelly Clarkson sing “It’s Quiet Uptown” is heart-wrenching; she conveys so much emotion with her voice that it compounds the meaning of the words. She was pregnant with her own son when she was asked to cover the song for the Hamilton Mixtape, and she put emotion about the “unimaginable” idea of losing a child into her rendition of it (Dinh). Although she changed a few words to make the song more her own, Clarkson held true to the original message of the song.
The women were able to take off their red scarves to represent them taking a stand against the men. They are trying to become independent and unique. The male soloist is wearing a red shirt to show that he is becoming different to the other males. Red is the inferior colour which could symbolise him becoming more like the women and less masculine than the other men.
People in this story live in a very dis honest world, it's a rough life and it's almost impossible to live comfortably and make an honest living. You can see one encounter in the early pages of the book when jurgis and his family first arrive to america, they're looking for kettles and pots for there new house and the man that they bought them from cheated them out of a few pots. The infamous Tina Turner one wrote, “Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, and I pumped a lot of pain, down in New Orleans but I never saw the good side of the city…Till I hitched a ride of river boat queen.” The inspiring strong piece of lyrics in her song, “Proud Mary” tells about her journey of becoming the queen diva of R&B. This song tells of the trials and tribulations she had to go through on becoming the queen diva she is today.
In the concept album, good kid m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar creates an autobiographical narrative that describes the societal pressures of growing up as a black teenager in Compton, and how his self-awareness and musical passion allowed him to escape from the city’s cycle of violence. Through the album’s storyline Kendrick makes the case that, despite coming from a hedonistic, gang infested city, he is able to transform into a puritan. Kendrick narrates this story through several different perspectives, including actual people from his life as well as his own psyche. Kendrick Lamar mainly invokes the persona of K.Dot, who is based on Kendrick’s actual seventeen year old self. This story begins from the first person perspective of naive K.Dot, who is characterized by a raspy, inflicted voice. The lyrics of this character show the ignorance and lack of direction in his life, as well his self-doubts and impressionability. It is eventually revealed that K.Dot has a passion for music. While K.Dot is a good kid at heart who is not gang affiliated, his innocence is tainted by the desires of the Compton lifestyle. After a violent encounter, a transformation begins to occurs from within K.Dot. He realizes that the negative influences of gang culture have corrupted him,
The book I chose to read is Tupac Shakur:The Life & Times of an American Icon. This book hasn’t been out for very long. It’s publication date was January 26, 2010 so it is a somewhat newer book. Fred and Tayannah examined very closely and did a great deal of research to write this book. They had to examine all the theories and myths about Tupac Shakur. So i’m guessing you can imagine how hard they worked to write & publish this biography.
On the other hand, some people are not as receptive to the criminal justice debate that Meek Mill’s sentencing has sparked. Rahman Hammond posted a Facebook post criticizing those who choose to blame the criminal justice system “for the choices of grown men” (Hammond). He believes that people are not holding Meek Mill accountable for his actions while he knew that he was on parole. Even though Meek Mill is not innocent in this situation as he violated New York law by riding a dirt bike, an unauthorized motor vehicle, his sentencing and the background for his case serves as a striking reminder of the harsh sentencing that black people face, no matter their wealth, notoriety, or popularity. Meek Mill is now 30 years old, yet he is still on parole for a crime he was convicted on when he was 19 years old. He spent over 10 years on parole not allowing him to practice any civil liberties. Even though the dirt bike charges were dismissed, the judge still sentenced him to two to four years in prison. People should be held responsible for their actions; however, the courts should also be held responsible for giving people unnecessarily harsh punishments compared to their white counterparts for crimes they have committed. Even though people say that Meek Mill is made an example of for black people, they also fail to realize the privilege that Meek Mill has a famous, wealthier black man. Black individuals who are typically exploited by the criminal justice do not have the finances to even hire a lawyer to properly defend their case. By examining Meek Mill’s case, individuals will hopefully understand the injustice that occurs within the black community and also understand what is at stake by ignoring or deflecting the concerns of a part of the population that essentially has no voice.
*In all seriousness, I just did not have the heart to include audio links to these songs, I just couldn't do it. Don't hate the messenger. Can you could add another title in the comments, to help me extend this post beyond a top twenty.
The average rapper wouldn’t be able to grace the pages of Rap Pages, VIBE, Spin, The Source, URB and Stress and go on a national tour months before their major label debut album is released. Then again Eminem isn’t the average rapper.
Brice said “I wanted to make sure I honored them and was putting forth the kind of emotions they wanted to come across. He achieved his goal. Nayelly Ibarra, thought the feelings that come to mind when she listens to the song are loss, heartbreak and grief honor (Ibarra). The way the song is recorded gives more emotion and feeling to the song. He recorded both the song and the music video to be very powerful. Two minutes into the video, the actor is shown screaming and tearing up a field in his truck. Allison Bentley, a first time listener says, “it is dramatic watching the video even without sound because it showed that he was angry and sad” (Bentley). Amanda Miller also had a few words about her views of the song when she said, “halfway through the song, the piano is exposed and it shows he is being really emotional”. She also says, she likes how he has a raspy voice, “his voice gives it a lot of emotion because it is raspy” (Miller). The tempo of the song is “seventy-two beats per minute, which is slow and leisurely” (I Drive). Lee Brice chose this tempo because he wants an emotional song to connect with people but also have a catchy tune people can listen to (I Drive). The tone of the song really helps you understand the song at its surface level

Marshall Mathers, widely known as Eminem, is an American rapper, record producer, and actor, who is recognized as one of the most controversial and best-selling artists of the early 21st century (“Eminem”). Marshall writes most of his lyrics through his personal life experiences while adding a comical “I don’t give a S***” vibe to them. He struggled through a rough and lonely childhood, had relationship issues, became a father at a young age, and worked hard with dedication and persistence to get where he is today.
Marshal Bruce Mathers III who is also know as Eminem was born with great talent and determination. He faced many challenges in his life but his determination and commitment lead him to success. Eminem's life as a child wasn't easy since his father abandoned him when he was six months old. He lived with an abusive mother who never supported him and considered him as a worthless human being. Tupac Shakur released the song “Keep Ya Head Up” first in 1993 on his album “Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z.”, then as a single in 1994. Tupac’s “Keep Ya Head Up”, one of his most notable and recognizable singles, received acclaim upon its release and continues to do so. The record centers on the social climate in the 90’s, and Tupac’s own experiences from his youth. Around the time of the song’s release, Tupac’s indictment in a rape case colored the reception of the song although it remained mainly positive. Tupac speaks on multiple issues through his lyrics, making it effective as a critique of society; moreover, the other creative devices he uses – phrasing, rhythm changes, and samples – make the song effective as an artistic project and back up his social message.
As I always listen to variety of music all over the world, so I have many favorite songs that always dancing in my mind. However I will include these five special, meaningful songs in my mix tape.
