Emma Watson: A Pioneer In 21st Century Women’s Rights Emma Watson is an actress, model, humanitarian, and activist who is famous throughout the world. She is most widely recognized for her role in the Harry Potter series, where she played a young witch named Hermione Granger. Born Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson in Paris, France on April 15th, 1991 to parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. The family lived in Paris for the first five years of Emma’s life, her parents divorced when she was five, and Emma moved back to Oxfordshire, England with her Mother and Brother. Watson attended the Stagecoach Theatre Arts school at Oxford. There she engaged in classes about singing, acting, and dancing. She participated in school plays and poetry competitions. This is where her natural talent for acting first emerged. Whether she is on screen as Hermione, or standing in front of the United Nations, she is working for the equal treatment and respect of women across the globe. Her role as Hermione inspired millions to be smart, kind, and brave; she was the perfect role model. Today her campaign HeForShe brings young men into the feminist movement. She is working hard to defeat the stereotype that feminists face; that we are selfish and ungracious women who are arguing for no reason. One of the most empowering statements that Watson has spoken about at length is the policies by which she lives her life. She claims that she struggles with them on a day to day basis, but they help her get through the day knowing that she has done good work; “I am willing to be seen. I am willing to speak up. I am willing to keep going. I am willing to listen to what others have to say. I am willing to go forward even when I feel alone. I am willing to go to bed each night, at peace with
