Emma Watson Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris. Watson is the daughter of Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both of which are British lawyers. When Watson was five, her parents divorced, and her and her younger brother Alex chose to live with their mother. Watson is most well known for her starring role in the Harry Potter films, but she is also UN Goodwill Ambassador, which partly influences what acting jobs she chooses to take. Emma Watson lived in Oxfordshire England with her mother and younger brother as a child. Watson attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theater Arts where she studied singing, acting, dancing, and performed in school plays. Watson’s theater teachers suggested her to agents casting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone even though she had never had any professional acting training or experience. At age nine, Watson started audition process, which consisted of eight different auditions. The film’s debut was massive; it grossed more than $974 million worldwide. Watson’s acting career began to flourish after her performance was praised by critics (“Emma Watson”). Watson spent the next decade filming for the Harry Potter series. The Harry Potter character, Hermione Granger, was a role model for so many girls back in the 90’s. She is smart, independent, loyal and passionate about social issues.
