The need for a reward system in any type of human service organizations is strong, the human service worker deals with someone else’s problems every day, then goes home to deal with their own. The pay range for this work is low to average, and the stress and disagreement level is high. These employees endure a host of emotions from clients on a daily basis, which is bound to affect the worker at some point. The management in these types of organizations should reward the employee for a job well done, or just a reminder to them that they do make a difference. For a human service worker in a non-profit organization, this show of appreciation is like gold, because these employees are not in these positions to make a lot of money, they are there because they want to help people. In implementing a reward system, I would first determine the type of organization, and then get to know more about the employees, and set-up a reward system that will benefit both the organization and the employees. One of the best ways to implement a reward system is to meet with employees and ask them to make a list of reward ideas that they would appreciate and how to pair it with goals that employees will strive to meet. Once the list is completed and the goals are set, then the human resource department or who ever is in charge of the reward system can begin to put together ideas and goals. To get the maximum benefit from the system, one must make the show of appreciation sincere, show appreciation, be meaningful to the employee, and given in a timely manner (Garza, 2006). When designing a system to reward employees the reward should fit or coincide with the good job. One way to do this is to set-up a system that rewards a day off with pay for not calling off for six months, by giving the employee the deserved day off, he or she will reap
