In the early 1940's, the decrease of the writing skill was beginning to make an appearance along with some of the first models of computers. Technology rapidly advanced and computers became a necessity in everyday life. In today's society living without a computer would be difficult; most employers will give a web address instead of a paper application, any information one could possibly need is available with a few clicks of the mouse, and many teachers create their lesson plans with educational videos and interactive programs inbetween the book work. However, writing is still important; without writing employers would have poor applications, historians would lack written documentation of history, and teachers would not be able to use a white board to teach a lesson.
Writing in the work force is often over looked, but is one of the most important and easiest ways to help a person get a job. Employers search through applications every day searching for someone that has a resume that catches their attention. A well-rounded resume tells an employer that the applicant cares about getting the job and has a proper education. A resume that is poorly written could be seen as uncaring and show a lack of education. An applicant with a developed writing skill can create a resume that employers are looking for and will

Previously, history has been written with paint and rock and more recently with pen and paper, but now it is written with a keyboard and computer. However, history needs to continue to be written with pen and paper in order to be preserved properly because the internet is not a reliable resource. If historians only used computers to preserve history, there would not be any official documentation of events that are completely reliable. Writing history with pen and paper is essential to keep accurate records for future
Not So Fast,” Andrea Lunsford argues that rather than leading to a new illiteracy, the digital technologies in the modern world help students to develop their ability of writing. Not only that students are daferrors than 25 years ago, actually with less spelling errors. In order to help students with the challenges, the teacher should offer solid instructions and encouragement rather than derision.
Technology has completely taken over when it comes to writing and it’s not fair to strip this curriculum out of schools and it’s especially not fair for the parents of young children to have to teach their children at home how to write in the cursive script I think it should at least be offered as an extra curriculum class such as music, band, and sports. I think that cursive writing could really benefit anyone children especially but for some reason the school systems have become so dependent on computer technology that a lot of the testing in schools are even done on a computer I remember doing CSAP testing and you had to make sure you filled in the correct bubble just right. As the author writes cursive is a lost virtue and to get it back is more than likely not going to happen this really makes me wonder what other skills schools no longer teach children I mean I know as parents it’s our job to prepare our children for the future but if it comes down to the point to where were having to teach our children the necessities to get them through life at home then what exactly is the point of public schools if they aren’t preparing our children for the future. To me cursive is like math people use it every day and if children aren’t being taught how to write it they definitely aren’t going to be able to
Clive Thompson’s “On the New Literacy” discusses the argument that technology is causing our youth’s writing skills to decline. He starts by mentioning a study that shows writing has actually improved and is having a re-birthing of sorts. Andrea Lunsford, A writing professor at Stanford University, ran the study, collecting nearly 15,000 student writings ranging from class assignments to blog posts. She discovered Stanford students were writing outside of the classroom 38 percent of the time and due to the internet, these writings had a bigger audience, which in effect made the students writing better. He states that Stanford students were less enthused about in-class writing because the only audience would be their teacher

Mankind has come a long way, from reading the traces left by animals in the soil to reading the scratches and scrawls across a white surface, (or the printed letters on a page). However, printed records are hardly ever hand-written anymore since the impact of electronic (and digital) environments are so prevalent in lives. With the exception of those who still write out their notes for school or send heartfelt cards during the holidays, most people don 't
The article “The Writings on the Screen” by Tiffany O’Callaghan talks about how this generation reads more frequently, and the style of writing has changed immensely. Tiffany also talks about how taking notes by hand rather than a computer will help you understand the topics of the lecture, and also help you retain the information. She emphasizes on the fact that using a laptop for an educational purpose is problematic, and distracting, not only to yourself, but to others around you. This article also talks about how writing by hand forces your brain to process the information you heard.
The nature of writing has changed in the past century. While writing still remains a form of visual communication, much of this change has been a result of technological advancements such as, from pen to paper or from a typewriter to a networked computer. The changes and expansion in the ways we are able to write today have brought about changes in writing pedagogy as well. The teaching of writing has been part of formal schooling in the United States for over 200 years (Kean 7). One major pedagogic change in United States’ education has to do with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. These standards have led to a change in the instruction of writing in schools. This paper, will focus on instructional changes of writing over time and current expectations for writing abilities as whole.
The main reason for attending university is to earn a degree and start a career that will create a successful future for the student. Besides taking numerous classes, one of the most important aspects of college is writing a college resume to acquire either an internship or a job to help the student build a foundation and gain experience for their desired occupation. Writing a college resume is like trying out for a football team. You want to be as direct and clear as possible, while also showing off a little here and there to gain recognition and separate yourself from the competition. To be a complete and effective college resume, the author must use concise yet informative and logical words that appeal to the reader, while also using a rigid and structured format that makes it easy for the reader to find the information he or she is looking for. A good college resume can lead a student to a lifelong career of success; a poorly written college resume can hold back a student’s progress into
Today, everything is electronical, so not many use hand writing anymore. Using computers and other ectronical devices is a big thing in our schools today. Most schools don't have paper back books anymore so they don't take notes from books. They type everything they hear.
Sarah Wright, a writer for Education Portal, states that there are two large reasons why one should learn to write well or improve their current skills: the Internet and the current highly competitive job market. Wright says, “Though some see the rise of digital media as the death of writing, the Internet actually makes unprecedented use of text. Newspapers were written in type, but they did not allow for the reader interaction that news websites have. And though a resume and cover letter have long been staples of a job search, the ability to make your application packet stand out is a major step in even being considered for a position” (1). As the availability of information grows on the internet, it is more important now than ever to be able to write content that stands out and is written well in today’s standards. Wright talks about the importance of writing proficiently before you have a job, but what about after you achieve the job or career you seek? When this happens, one must still work to stay skillful and competent in their written works.
“While some argue, cursive writing belongs in the archives and common core ushers it out of schools, the evidence shows we need it as much as ever.” says Jennifer Doverspike. Some people may question why it is still necessary for cursive to be taught in our schools. Especially when we are no longer in the 21st century. Where we have now entered the new age where technology is constantly on the rise, and tablets and iPhones have taken over. This drastic change has allowed our children and adults to take the easier route. Although the electronic world has taken over and has added new elements to the writing world. Researchers have found a strong connection between writing by hand, the mind, language skills, memory and artificial thinking.
Writing history requires diligence, research, checking and rechecking the information and most of all an understanding that no matter how hard a person tries their own beliefs, biases, and history will color the information they are writing. Having the ability to trace the steps writers take to arrive at certain conclusions helps the readers to assimilate the information with some degree of understanding, if they choose to follow the research. This does not mean that everyone who reads the material will arrive at the same conclusion, however, just as a writer has bias, so does the reader.
Professional resume writing is a standout amongst the most vital devices you have when searching for a job. A resume is similar to an advertisement: it must pull in consideration, make intrigue, and produce activity with respect to the reader. A decent resume will lead an executive to call you to talk about at a interview how your experience and identity fit the association. The entire thought is to give the reader an unmistakable and simple to peruse archive that highlights why you fit with that organization or position and, in this manner, merit an individual meeting. Professional resume writing you will need to independent yourself from the many different candidates, so consider what makes you not quite the same as other people!
