The physical disabilities that are protected in this act are loss of a leg or arm, and chronic illnesses like diabetes and cancer. The mental disabilities that fall under this act are phobias, depression, or learning disorders. It is vital that all employers provide their employees with necessary accommodations required for them to perform their normal work functions. The ADA ensures that employees who are experiencing any form of mental or physical disability are treated fairly, and their disability accommodated within reasonable means. This means the work place should be modified so that the person with disability is able to perform their job functions.
