The hero’s journey appears in many books. It is very clear in the book Ender's Game. The journey that Ender goes on teaches about a couple things, one of them is compassion. Enders journey begins when he is at home with his family. Ender is at school and life is normal until he gets his monitor taken out. After it is taken out, he is bullied by the class and he begins to think that he is a failure. He gets into a fight, where his strategic fighting abilities and sheer brutality gets him noticed. He ended up killing the boy he was fighting, though he is not aware of it. This part of the book is Ender’s call to adventure. Everything started to happen when later that day a man be the name of Colonel Graff shows up at Enders house looking for …show more content…
Inside his group of launchies, he makes friends with a boy, Alai. Ender and Alai train together and start to learn new things. They watch each others backs from the enemies they will meet later on. They become better friends and start taking in new kids into their little group. Later, Ender meets an older kid, Dap. Dap gives Ender a rundown on the battle school, and what to watch out for. He could also be considered Enders aid. However, Ender also makes enemies inside the battle school. Specifically, Bernard. Bernard is the leader of the kids who dislike Ender inside of the group of launchies. Ender often gets bullied by Bernard and his little group. He always finds ways to get back at him, though. Ender meets older kids while watching them play the battle games. He ends up beating one of the older kids and he makes him mad. That was a bad move for Ender, because now he has older kids that dislike him. They won’t let him play those games with them anymore, calling his win, “beginners luck”. Ender faces many trials in this point of the book. Colonel Graff assigns him to Salamander army and he meets one of his worst enemies, Bonzo. He is the commander of the Salamander army and he hates Ender. Bonzo had to get rid of one of his best commanders in the army to be able to take in Ender, and he is not happy about that. Bonzo consistently shows Ender that, by making him sit out of the battles, or …show more content…
Ender is kicked out of Salamander army and sent to Rat army. Here, he is under the command of Dink Meeker. In this army, however; Ender is used in battles and excels in his battle and command position. He is able to teach the army a lot of new strategies and ends up winning battles. After a while in Rat army, Ender graduates to a different army, an army of his own. He takes the command of Dragon army. Commanding Dragon army, Ender has to have a strong leadership in commanding the outcasts of battle school. His army started off terrible, but with training and the correct leadership they won many battles. Ender also gets in a fight with Bonzo, and ends up killing him. They didn’t tell him about the fact that he killed Bonzo, either. Now we are at the climax of the story, where Ender and his commanders have to take a final test. It is a very hard test and many important people are watching. This battle either makes it, or breaks it. They take the test and barely win their battle against the buggers that they thought were fake. Later, they learn that the battle was actually real, and they won the battle against the
One was that he was moved from his launchy group to salamander army. Bronzo the leader of salamander army didn't want ender to be in his army because Ender was only six. But Ender did meet a friend in salamander named Petra. Petra basically took Ender under her wing and showed him the basics of the game. Then Bonzo traded Ender to rat army there he meet some pretty nice people. He then started his own training group with his old friends from his launch group, word got out and some of the older boys didn't like that ender was teaching kids how to fight. So they ganged up and tried to fight Ender and his friends. They older boys didn't know how good the kids were and lost.
After Ender’s important battle, they tell him that all of it was real and that he had actually defeated the buggers. Ender thinks to himself, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mind was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world that he had blasted into oblivion. He walked through the crowd, dodging their congratulations, ignoring their hands, their words, their rejoicing” (Card 297). When Ender realizes that they have been lying to him and using him as a weapon, he becomes angry. Ender yells at Graff and Mazer, “‘ I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’” (Card 297). If Ender would have known that he would have killed people and creatures, he would not have gone to battle school in the first place. Death is very hard on Ender and he does not know how he can live with such a burden. Ender’s change in character is due to him being a victim of
In the beginning of the book Ender gets his monitor removed and gets into a fight. The way he handled the fight is what caused colonel Graff to offer Ender to join battle school. In the start of battle school, Ender got picked on a lot, until he killed Bonzo, he was promoted to commander, commanding his own army, he defeated a lot of other armies in the school. In the commanding part of the book, he was getting stressed and losing sleep, he went back to Earth because he didn’t want to be in battle school anymore, then his sister convinced him to go to Eros to train for the bugger war, when he was playing simulations of a bugger invasion, he finally defeated the buggers and Graff told him that the games were actually real, not simulators. After he beat the buggers, another war started on Earth, his sister met with him where he was and told him that he should be governor at another planet and went around to find a new planet for a new era for the buggers.
So far what I have read is Ender Wiggins was being bullyed by this kid named Stillson he then got tired of it so he beat Stillson and kept kicking him even when he was down in order to will all future battles. Colonial Graff then arrives at his house to ask him to come to battle school because he thinks he can be the best. Ender agrees, he then travels to battle school. He meets this kid named Alai who is a very nice kid they become friends. Ender does a whole bunch of training and he does night training with his friend Alai and some other kids. He is then reported to join salamander army which is led by Bonzo Madrid. He then meets Bonzo, Bonzo tell him he is going to be traded immediately. Ender meets this girl named Petra who offers to show
In the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it starts with ender in school and being made fun of. After he beats up a bully, he goes home to deal with his brother Peter who also bullies him because Ender is a better specimen than Peter was. But what no one expected was that a representative from the military came to invite Ender to Battle School up in space. Ender accepted and went to live up in Battle School for years to come. At first, Ender was hated for being such a talented student at the age of six but was soon respected after he was able to beat all the other armies with just a bunch of little kids. Ender became the best soldier at Battle School and was moved up to Command School where he would learn to command
Have you ever been so angry that you could kill? Maybe not, but that is normal for a character in Ender’s Game. Peter, Ender’s older brother makes many actions that can be explained by resenting Ender, being mad at his parents, and upset with himself and his sister, Valentine. In the book, the main character Ender is recruited to be trained to help fight a battle against the Buggers, who have attacked Earth twice.
The commander did this on purpose because he wanted to see how Ender handled the situation. The commanders are constantly manipulating the recruits while they are in battle school because they are testing how all of the children react to adversity. Everytime Ender was faced with a challenge he excelled. He embodies the idea of perfection. Since ender was the perfect recruit most of the other kids despised him because they were jealous.
Ender made a choice to go to battle school because Graff talked him into going like on page 22 when Graff tells Ender “that no one wants a third”, and he was smart enough to win the war against the Buggers on page 296 when Mazer said to Ender “Ender you never played me. You never played a game since I became your enemy.”. He wanted to win the whole war not just one fight because on page 19 Ender said “knocking him down won the first fight. I wanted to win all the next ones, too. So they’d leave me alone.” Because of the decisions Ender makes he becomes a hero and a soldier. This has to do with us because we will probably have other wars and there will be soldiers who train and fight for us much like Ender trained and fought for the world. Ender at the beginning of the book is weak and not a leader. By the middle of the book Ender was strong and almost the leader of an army. By the end of the book Ender is a hero and the leader of a
Ender has been through many ups and downs and in this story; Ender descends into darkness mostly figuratively. For example, when Ender defeated the Formics without even knowing, he had a meltdown. “Ender grabbed Mazer’s uniform and hung onto it, pulling him down so they were face to face. ‘I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’ He was crying. He was out of control” (298). This exemplifies how much this situation had constrained Ender, making it the hardest and most downfall moment of his life. In the quote it also mentioned Peter, the person he despises the most. Ender does not like the fact that the I.F.
In this chapter it is it is interesting that Ender is grateful to Peter for teaching him to cry silently. Peter has made Ender into the type of person who can handle a threat and thats all I think he has done to help him . Ender has a talent to be independent which helps him during the games. Ender shows how he can use his intelligence to fight back. This shows how ender is very mature Ender's strategy destroys Bernard's gang, and makes it so that he makes friends(makes friends with shen) without violence (P, CON)
“He kept sitting out on the army practice sessions, and kept working hard on his own, with Petra in the mornings and his friends at night.” (Card, page 92) Ender is determined to learn as much as he can and become a good soldier. He doesn’t care what people think of him when he practices with his former Launch group. He wants to become a soldier that someone would actually use instead of sitting out on practices and games. Although Ender went into Salamander army knowing nothing, he took initiative to acquire skills to be a good soldier. Ender also improves by studying Salamander army while they practice. “If he couldn’t drill as a soldier, he could study Bonzo as a tactician.” (Card, page 84) When Ender goes to Rat army, he can use this to his advantage to defeat Bonzo’s army. He can also get better by watching the way they fight in order to obtain the techniques he needs in battle. Ender proves Bonzo wrong that he can be a good soldier when he turned a loss into draw. “Before anyone knew what was happening, he froze three of the soldiers who were about to press their helmes against the lighted corners of the door. Then some of the others spotted him and fired—but at first they only hit his already-frozen legs. It gave him time to get the last two men at the gate.” (Card, page 94) Ender used some of the things he learned, for example, using his legs as a shield, to save his
The journey that Ender embarks on begins when he is born the third child in a world where under normal circumstances, having a third child was prohibited. However, this was not an ordinary circumstance. He was not outcasted by their family the way other children were when they were a third or even fourth. Ender was different, he was a third that was permitted to be born by the the governing body of most of the world, the I.F. They were looking for a child capable enough to train to become the next commander and wipe out the buggers for good, and they saw promise in Ender’s family. Regardless to the fact that both his older siblings are geniuses they each have their one major flaw. Valentine, Ender’s older sister, is too compassionate to wipe out an entire species. Peter, Ender’s older brother was too quick to anger which made his reckless in attack. The hope was that Ender would be born a happy medium. When Ender proves that he is in fact the one for the job, the I.F. offer him the long
First, the exposition introduces us to the setting which is a future Earth under attack from aliens called Buggers and also to the protagonist, Ender, a boy who displays both intelligence and a potential for violence. Ender is an ordinary boy who lives with his mother and father who lives in the futuristic world where the earth is under attack from aliens called Buggers. When Ender self-defends himself from bullies, people notice intelligence and violence in him. For this reason, the higher-ups recruit Ender to Battle School where he is trained for the Bugger Wars. This background
The other kids are obviously jealous, because they lack his skills and intellectual ability. But he makes a clear enemy in Bonzo Madrid, after Ender joins his army and defy’s Bonzos implemented strategies, their relationship is a big part of the whole book. They have plenty of encounters, and physical interactions. In the end, Bonzo encounters ender in the bathroom with the intent to hurt him, but Ender ends up accidentally killing him.
The society surrounding Ender was hostile and volatile. This is shown in the very beginning of the book when Ender is playing with
