Have you ever been in command of an entire space army? Imagine yourself with all the latest technology for war. visualize the people of earth putting all of their hope into you, and no else. In the tale of Ender Wiggin, he was the person you were imagining, Ender was a young boy who was put into command school to tailor the traits of a great soldier. The movie and book showed amazing traits of his character but only one can be better. The movie told Ender's story in a very fast paced way, they left out many important things from the book and didn't go into detail of things. In the scene where Ender fought Bonzo, many things led up to that in the book, in the movie they make it seem that Bonzo wants to fight him because he beat him in a game.
Some similarities are Ender’s brother, Peter, is mean to him and in the movie, and peter acts the same in the book too (pg 10-11). Also, in the movie and in the book the adults lied and manipulated Ender to kill all of the buggers for them (pg 314). Finally, in
In the beginning of the book Ender gets his monitor removed and gets into a fight. The way he handled the fight is what caused colonel Graff to offer Ender to join battle school. In the start of battle school, Ender got picked on a lot, until he killed Bonzo, he was promoted to commander, commanding his own army, he defeated a lot of other armies in the school. In the commanding part of the book, he was getting stressed and losing sleep, he went back to Earth because he didn’t want to be in battle school anymore, then his sister convinced him to go to Eros to train for the bugger war, when he was playing simulations of a bugger invasion, he finally defeated the buggers and Graff told him that the games were actually real, not simulators. After he beat the buggers, another war started on Earth, his sister met with him where he was and told him that he should be governor at another planet and went around to find a new planet for a new era for the buggers.
I will make 4 different points to show the differences. The first point is the fight with Stilson. In the book the fight is outside while Ender is walking to the bus and in the movie the fight is initially in science lab. Stilson and his friends pushed Ender in the science lab to fight him. Next, Ender
Childhood innocence contains curiosity, imagination and a frail mind that has yet to experience the real world. A young boy, Ender Wiggin, goes through many things a child his age normally wouldn’t experience. As he grows up in Battle and Command School, his humanity slowly strips away due to being isolated and pressured to be the commander that the International Fleet needs. Though everyone benefit from the end result, things they did to win the war should not be excused.
In the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it starts with ender in school and being made fun of. After he beats up a bully, he goes home to deal with his brother Peter who also bullies him because Ender is a better specimen than Peter was. But what no one expected was that a representative from the military came to invite Ender to Battle School up in space. Ender accepted and went to live up in Battle School for years to come. At first, Ender was hated for being such a talented student at the age of six but was soon respected after he was able to beat all the other armies with just a bunch of little kids. Ender became the best soldier at Battle School and was moved up to Command School where he would learn to command
Young kids can be easily affected by their surroundings. They learn from the roles of their teachers and their fellow students and peers. This is clearly demonstrated in Ender’s Game, a science fiction novel written by Orson Scott Card. It shows how Ender Wiggin, a very young boy, is put into a position of leadership and what he learns through this experience, Through a computer game, Ender learns that he is a very clever killer. Through his experience as commander, Ender learns that being strict will help him be a better leader and win games. Finally, his experience with Shen and Bernard teaches Ender that having humor will easily allow him to make friends. Overall, Ender’s experience in Battle School teaches him many things about
The book begins with Ender gets his monitor out and commander Graff tells him he needs to go to battle school because he was the smartest kid. In the shuttle going to battle school, he broke Bernard’s arm and got bullied by the bigger kids. Ender started to command his own army after standing up to the bullies and then graduated and moved to command school. He stays on earth for a while to get ready to travel to Eros and then he was isolated from everyone and then he got to fight in the war against the Buggers. They won and Ender’s team thought it was a game not
In the beginning of Ender’s game, we are introduced to Ender Wiggin. Ender Wiggin was a shy kid who was unaware of all of the possibilities he had. He starts to become a stronger more mature boy and soon enough realizes all the power he posses. He has an older brother named Peter, and an older sister named Valentine. He at first is this little, weak kid, and in five years goes from that to a mature leader of an army. We see him progress to the top of what he becomes, but it does not happen easily. He has to make many hard decisions that could go any which way.
On the other hand, in the film Ender remains a young teenager the whole movie. This could be most likely due to the fact that the creators of the film didn’t want to have to cast three different aged actors that looked very similar enough to be the same person. Also, this change made Ender’s time at the Battle School seem like it took weeks rather than years which would help move along the flow of the movie and make it so the plot didn't seem to drag on as we watched a six year old develop into a young adult. Even though this change might have positively affected to overall flow of the storyline in the movie it feels like an uneven tradeoff when considering we lose the greater insight to the development of Ender over the years he spends at Battle School. For example, in the movie Ender has a very big problem with authority figures but he is a young teenager and that is socially expected of him to act out towards adults. In the book when Ender talks back to the adults it is as a six to eight year old which is a much more powerful image with a much more antithetical meaning. An eight year old Ender would feel as if he was the underclass and this would explain his subversive tendencies towards the adults who were in charge at the Battle School. Since Ender is older in the movie the back talk and anti-superior mindset he establishes has much less shock value when watching it on screen. On screen Ender’s
Ender is a young boy that is very talented coming from a well known family. His mother, father, sister, and brother live on the planet considered earth, however, because the world is at stake he has been sent to space to train for war.“Battle School is where the best and brightest are trained to be military commanders through participation in intricate war games.” “I'm crazy," said Ender(Chapter 8). "But I think I'm OK(Chapter 8). Ender is not letting these fears and obstacles get in his way of achieving his goal as a commander and his understanding of what and why he was chosen to be in battle school so early. Based on the quote as they train him in the different direction from the way he used to live and the way they live the grown ups soon come to the understanding that he is intelligent and can be a great help for the battle against the buggers. As they continue to train through different section they become more and more interested into his thoughts tracking his every movement and soon inform him he will play a big part in their mission to save the
Ender Wiggin was a timid boy who wanted to have his brother and parents to love him. Prior to joining the Battle School, Ender did not have the belligerence that he would soon possess. He did not want to be like Peter, so
This novel is about a brilliant military strategist, Ender Wiggin, whose story takes place in the future where there is a constant threat of an invasion from aliens who have been given the slanderous nickname, Bugger. Ender’s childhood is not an easy one considering he gets teased at school for being a “third” only to come home to an abusive brother who is always harassing Ender and his sister Valentine and he has the weight of the world on his shoulders because they believe that he is the last hope for mankind to fight off the Buggers. After many years of monitoring Ender the International Fleet decides they want to recruit Ender into Battle
The novel and the film share common themes throughout themselves, one specific theme is Ender's opinion on The Government and adults in general. He heavily expresses his hatred for adults, including his parents throughout the book and movie. He feels as though they betrayed him therefore causing him to lack trust in all adults, this foreshadows the bad relationships he will form with important figures throughout the story. Ender dislikes any elder before knowing anything about them all because of the past. Ender believes that The Government is lying in multiple occasions, he claims that their only tactic is to enroll kids into an army and teach them to feud and kill other children that they’re battling. The children are told this is the way to live a successful life, they fail to inform the soldiers about who they are fighting, who will survive, and how to ensure survival. The Government tests these kids on their ability to attack one another, as they isolate them from all family and friends causing them to be lonely and unsure of what the outcome of this battle school will be.
When Ender is at the battle school, it is evident that the training and harsh atmosphere is taking a toll on him, “Since becoming commander, he never slept more than five hours a night…Sometimes he worked at his desk…straining his eyes to use the dim display. Usually, though, he stared at the invisible ceiling and thought” (Card 174). Later, he is not even able to get a joke, “therefore Dr. Device. It was a joke.’ Ender didn’t see what was funny about it” (Card 273). When Ender discovered he was tricked into destroying the entirety of the buggers, he became depressed thinking about the genocide that he had just committed, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mid was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world he had blasted to oblivion” (Card 297).
Ender is a intelligent leader because he understood the value of developing and empowering others, showing courage and, staying focused on the greater good, rather than his own success.
