Young kids can be easily affected by their surroundings. They learn from the roles of their teachers and their fellow students and peers. This is clearly demonstrated in Ender’s Game, a science fiction novel written by Orson Scott Card. It shows how Ender Wiggin, a very young boy, is put into a position of leadership and what he learns through this experience, Through a computer game, Ender learns that he is a very clever killer. Through his experience as commander, Ender learns that being strict will help him be a better leader and win games. The novel Ender's Game expresses that Ender being isolated in multiple situations is the cause the of his lost childhood. Ender's isolation is caused by the characters in the Battle School and the removal of the monitor. All of these situations prevent him from getting close to others. Throughout Ender’s Game, Ender is isolated, kept apart from other children that could be friends. Ender is not the only one separated in the book though as there is Bean, Graff and Mazer Rackham. I am, writing this essay on how Isolation changed the people in Enders games behaviour and how it is the central theme of the book. The first paragraph will be on Ender's isolation, the next article will be on beans isolation, and the last one will be on Graff and Mazer. I will provide a quote then explain on each paragraph.

Ender departs for Battle School, in part, to make his family’s life easier, but he has no clue yet that his road ahead is filled with loneness and separation. When Ender is at the shuttle, Colonel Graff purposely tells all the Launchies that Ender is the genius of the group and that no one can surpass him, making everyone on the launch dislike him. “This wasn’t the way the show was supposed to go. Graff was supposed to pick on him, not set him up as the best. They were supposed to be against each other at first, so they could become friends later” (32). This also shows that Colonel Graff is forcing him to only depend on himself. What Ender also doesn’t know is that his enforced segregation is becoming a tool in the hands of the officers. Ender lives in 3 major homes all of which contain the cornerstones of home for Ender. Ender’s first home is earth where he is constantly faces peters lies and is alienated for being a third with his only friend being his sister who is “ ‘his monitor now’, said Peter. ‘You better watch him, day and night’ ” (Card 13). This friendship is abruptly removed when Ender goes to Battle School, where “There aren’t any vacations from battle school. No visitors, either. A full course of training lasts until you’re sixteen” (Card 21). While in Battle School, Ender adopts it as his home because it exhibits the building blocks of what home is for Ender through Ender’s constant isolation and the lies from every teacher made Battle School home for Ender and Ender “wanted to go home, back to the Battle School, he only place in the universe where he belonged” (Card 225) even though during his first night at Battle School Ender felt “the ache was there, thick in his throat and the front of his face, hot in his chest and in his eyes. I want to go home” (Card 44). This exhibits the extent to which Ender’s isolation exists because even when he manages to feel at home, while completely disconnected from Earth, he is suddenly forced to leave and go to Command School. Command School “was hopeless … the ceilings were too low for the width, the tunnels too narrow. It was not a comfortable place” (Card 257). In the beginning of the book Ender gets his monitor removed and gets into a fight. The way he handled the fight is what caused colonel Graff to offer Ender to join battle school. In the start of battle school, Ender got picked on a lot, until he killed Bonzo, he was promoted to commander, commanding his own army, he defeated a lot of other armies in the school. In the commanding part of the book, he was getting stressed and losing sleep, he went back to Earth because he didn’t want to be in battle school anymore, then his sister convinced him to go to Eros to train for the bugger war, when he was playing simulations of a bugger invasion, he finally defeated the buggers and Graff told him that the games were actually real, not simulators. After he beat the buggers, another war started on Earth, his sister met with him where he was and told him that he should be governor at another planet and went around to find a new planet for a new era for the buggers.

Secondly, after some time Ender befriends a young boy from his launch group, named Alai. Almost instantaneously, Ender and Alai develop a very profound connection with one another.

This jealousy led to Ender being isolated in the 1st few weeks of battle school. Enders isolation might have been influenced by the fact that Orson Scott Card had to move a lot when he was a child. Card’s family kept moving to different states which in turn made it hard for him to make friends because he was always moving to new schools. Because of Orson’s isolation he became very interested in books and reading at a young age. This reflects how ender dealt with the loneliness of being an outcast.

Ender wants to finish the game because he wants to live in one of the villages of the autumn kingdom. He wants to become one of the little boys working and playing there, with nothing to kill and nothing killing him. Ender wanted to “just live”, and although he didn’t know what it meant, he wanted to do it anyway.

Graff says that Ender needs to be isolated because he needs to think that he can never count on someone else’s help and can only depend on himself. Graff says that Ender can have friends, but he can’t have any parents. In the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it starts with ender in school and being made fun of. After he beats up a bully, he goes home to deal with his brother Peter who also bullies him because Ender is a better specimen than Peter was. But what no one expected was that a representative from the military came to invite Ender to Battle School up in space. Ender accepted and went to live up in Battle School for years to come. At first, Ender was hated for being such a talented student at the age of six but was soon respected after he was able to beat all the other armies with just a bunch of little kids. The story has many settings. The first of which takes place sometime in the future somewhere on Earth where there is a constant threat of a bugger invasion and having a third child is considered bad which made life a lot harder for Ender which was one of many reasons why he left to Battle School. The setting then moves to the spaceship which Battle School is on which doesn’t really need to be on a spaceship unless Orson Scott Card wanted the spaceship to help with the feeling of isolation. As the story progresses the setting moves to the planet Eros which is where he will be fighting the Buggers thinking he is just in a simulation but he is really fighting the Buggers.
