Consider, for a moment you are outside with your bulldog, and it has a heat stroke. You and your family would be tore apart because your dog just died. In Scope Magazine page twenty it states, “A face so flat that it has difficulty breathing.” That is just one of the many problems bulldogs have.

Studies show that sometime in the next 10-50 years, if selective breeding continues, the bulldogs will have their noses touching their foreheads. 100 years ago, the english bulldog was able to reproduce and give birth to their puppies without question, but now they need to be artificially inseminated and have to have a cesarean section birth because of how their bodies are now shaped. This is a disadvantage to the bulldog because now breeders can inseminate dogs and can continue to breed them. These dogs also lost the ability to travel on planes because of overheating and breathing problems when they reach a certain altitude on the plane. Many more abilities and activities have also been taken away, such as being able to play and enjoy themselves because they get tired and need to actually take a break to breathe.

During the decade that I bred, raised, and placed English Bulldogs into their new forever homes, I ran into many issues both with the dogs and the people I encountered along the way. Although I researched the breed thoroughly prior to the purchase of my own English Bulldogs, I still managed encounter health and temperament issues of the dogs, as well as the common greedily natured people wanting to breed them to make a quick buck. "Bark Bark" I hear the sound of my Pitbull barking for me. I walk through the door from school there she is jumping right on my legs. I feel that Pitbull's are great pets because, they have fine characteristics, their different in their own ways, and they have many facts about them.

As anyone who has seen a televised dog show can attest, some dogs are deformed in disturbing ways. One might look at the “excessively wrinkled skin of the Chinese Shar-Pei,” the “the flat face of a bulldog,” or the “low-slung eyelids of a Bloodhound” (PBS), and think, “That can not be healthy.” The fact of the matter is that these deformities are far from healthy. As the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) points out, the Shar-Pei’s skin (due to it’s “excessively wrinkled” nature) is prone to skin infections, the Bloodhound’s droopy eyes are practically magnets for eye infection, and the Bulldog’s face is so squished that it can never breathe correctly. While these deformities may be more obvious, overly large or small pedigree dogs have their own slew of health problems (Rooney and Sargan). As Rooney and Sargan disclose, very small dogs (known as toy breeds) often have dislocated kneecaps, heart problems, and trouble staying warm. Big dogs, such as Great Danes, can suffer from heat prostration and orthopedic issues (Rooney and Sargan). According to Rooney and Sargan, almost every purebred breed of dog is more likely to have at least one genetic disease compared to mixed breeds. Dogs are regularly called “man’s best friend”, however, there is one dog breed that is not getting much love, which is the Pitbull. Pitbull’s are notorious for attacking children and adults without warning and they are labeled the most aggressive dog breed for the past few decades. One reason is that there flat-faces makes it hard for the bulldogs to breath. This proves bulldogs flat-faces make it hard for them to breath and can't do most of the activities. Another reason is their wrinkles on their face can cause skin problems for the bulldogs. This shows that there big wrinkles can cause skin problems in the future and people might not want to adopt or breed them if they have a skin problem.
