English Composition Self-Analysis

English Composition is a whirlwind of knowledge which you must face whether you want to or not. Throughout this semester, I have overcome many obstacles while taking this class. I have also learned many things, some relating to English, some relating to life in general. The thing most strikingly obvious was the amount of personal issues I had this semester. My mother needed to have emergency surgery, I got into a car accident, leaving me without a way to campus, and I had to balance classes with organizations that are required for my scholarship. While most people think that this would be considered a large obstacle, I saw it as the opposite. I was able to stay on top of my work and I am extremely happy with the way most of my work turned out. This experience made me proud of myself and I became inspired to put in more effort into my work and I enjoyed writing even more.

I always wrote by myself with no one to read it over, so I understand that writing needed several phases of work, but I never saw the benefits of peer review. My peers were the ones to “bring me out of my shell” so to speak and working with them showed me another side of writing. I gained a lot more than I would’ve thought by stepping back and letting other review my work. In my second packet, I felt like I depended a lot on peer review and it is my favorite project because I listened to my peers and was able to construct a drawing and poem I really enjoyed. I felt like I really understood how collaboration was beneficial to writing. My editing skills were also something I improved on only if it was because I became self-conscious amount my grammar mistakes with other people reading it. My knowledge of conventions needs work, but I feel like it will continue to improve throughout my journey of high
