I was impressed by the openness of the guest speaker and its presentation data. The most interesting part was about the next steps of Rakuten toward the globalization and Englishnization project. It is a big challenge to the top management and all employees. However, there are already impressive achievements in English skills acquiring. 3. Was “Englishnization” a good idea for Rakuten? What are the costs/benefits of this policy? “Englishnization” idea is not only the good idea. It is inevitable step toward the following development of the company on the world market. I think Mr. Mikitani’s background helped him to realize it and push the project forward. One of the very famous business leaders Mr. John Francis "Jack" Welch, Jr. (born November 19, 1935) former CEO of General Electric, best quoted about globalization “Globalization has changed us into a company that searches the world, not just to sell or to source, but to find intellectual capital - the world 's best talents and greatest ideas.” And there is one more which best illustrates Mr. Mikitani’s actions “Change before you have to”. Additionally, English has been cited as the major language of international business. It is the most wide spread language in the world. Proficiency in English is a mandatory requirement for any professional working in a global business environment. Direct communication is the only way to integrate the business in
In addition, the audience’s attitude can be seen as diligent for individuals whose first language isn’t English, it can give them a sense of hope. For others whose first language is English, it might strike up a similar feeling but in a different
Globalization allows important processes to occur and be maintained more efficiently and important ideas to become reality in an environment where they otherwise may not be. There is a certain irony involved in this however that must be mentioned. For example, globalization is going to allow the world to work together to hopefully solve our apocalyptic environmental predicament in a best case scenario. Of course however, this predicament is a result of globalization(1, Conclusion). Still, it allows the human race to push forward, which at this point we must recognize as a necessity of our species in a time where progress of the human race is growing rapidly. In my opinion this is a progress is written in our DNA, and globalization has allowed us to accomplish truly incredible things(2, Conclusion).
Question 21: Which of the following is a factor behind English being accepted as the global business language?
This address as mentioned before, deals with the notion that they should abandon their mother tongue and replace it with English as their primary language. From my perspective, I believe that the people at that time in general would be offended due to the fact, that they can’t instill knowledge of their own heritage and must cope with the law. This document benefitted us in a way that it helped us reflect upon the of acceptance of language not solely as a means of communication but, value our
For over thousands of years, globalization has widely occurred worldwide. Infact, since it had such an impactful widespread among people and families, It stayed throughout its heritage and was passed on to today.
According to Osterhammel and Petersson, globalization “summarizes a wide spectrum of experiences shared by many people” (2). I agree with this statement and would go on to claim that globalization is a group of processes and events, some beneficial and some harmful, that have resulted in the spread of networks across the world. However, this spread of networks did not happen over night. This is in part because not all interactions are transformed into networks, as these require a certain degree of longevity. In order for interactions to become networks, groups must consider the range between each other and their interactions must be important or impactful, intense, fast, durable, and frequent. For the reason that each of these characteristics must be present in order for networks to form, globalization has been in the works for many centuries and is still at work today. Therefore, while the historical events and processes of past centuries have provided the roots of globalization, the modernization of recent decades has built upon these roots to connect the world in a way

Empathy- The ability to understand and share the feelings of another. To Kill A Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee, has many valuable themes. Several themes are developed throughout the storyline. One prominent and recurring theme throughout the novel is the idea that you have to try to understand others and think about how their lives are. Several characters in the novel tell the children to put themselves in someone else’s shoes before they judge or make assumptions about him or her. One example of when Atticus Finch shows empathy is when he says, “Jem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell’s shoes for a minute. I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. [...] so if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take. He had to take it out on somebody and I’d rather it be me than that houseful of children out there” (Lee 292). Empathy is shown through Link Deas, Atticus Finch, and Arthur “Boo” Radley’s effect on Scout’s life.
In today’s society, Colin Kaepernick has made a stand in which what he believes in and what others think it is doing wrong for not standing up for the National Anthem. Kaepernick’s stand has made an impact to the NFL and all over U.S, his kneeling during the National Anthem cost him a fine of millions of dollars. The 49ers have lost a tremendous amount of fans for what Colin has done, but many other NFL Players have starting backing up with Kaepernick’s action like the linebacker for the Miami Dolphins Jelani Jenkins, Free safety for the 49ers Eric Reid also believes the same way as Kaepernick. I believe in Kaepernick’s action even though it might lack the allegiance to the flag but it still means something to the ones who believe in what
Globalization has, for better or worse, altered the economic arena for every country in the world. For many less developed countries, globalization has leveled the playing field so that their economies can compete with the larger, more developed ones such as the United States and other large western economies. For instance, technical engineers in India and China are now just as qualified as engineers in America, but at half the cost. The once large and prosperous service sector in the United States as well as telemarketing services have largely been sourced to India as a large exodus of American multinational corporations find cheaper workers who deliver comparable quality. This then seems to be the essence of globalization - businesses
When entering a new market, at least one of the company representatives must know the language of the country. Even though the most common language used in the international business world is English, many countries have a very poor command of the English language therefore it is highly beneficial to have an employee that speaks the language. It is in benefit of the business to get the best deals, make negotiations and agreements however without a common language this can sometimes lead to misunderstanding and hiring a translator can be very expensive.
Dating back to the around 3100 B.C.E. the Egyptian civilization is one of the world’s oldest documented nations to date. Around 2625 B.C.E. the two parts of Egypt at the time know as Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt merged together under one ruler called a pharaoh, or “god-king” (Ancient Egypt, 2011) therefore lasting about 30 centuries until around 1075 B.C.E. During this age Egypt became an imperial power by expanding its territories into Nubia as well as Asia and building world wonders such as pyramids. As corruption and betrayal emerged the Empire broke into small factions run by feudal lords. With a broken empire the country was overrun by foreign rulers. Ancient Egypt saw its end upon the arrival of Alexander the Great during his conquest

Theodore Levitt is often considered to be the first to recognize the trend towards globalization and states that: “companies must learn to operate as if the world were one large market – ignoring superficial regional and national differences…” In addition, he argues that the companies that do not adapt to the new global realities will become the victims of those that do.
English today is the most commonly used global language for commerce and it is the main language of the international diplomacy. And maybe the most important for them, it’s the most common language on the internet. Also, the language that integrand
