The hardships one would encounter in their lives have become a part of our society, because they act as stepping stones to build ourselves with trials to reach any higher ground. It’s ready is the best, and worst possible actions we have done to ourselves.
Many immigrants want human right like other but they still don’t give respect. In Sonia Nazario’s Enrique's Journey. Enrique face many challenges to get to the United States. Enrique and Lourdes’ challenges illustrate the undocumented people don’t have same human right
Immigration affects families in many different ways. In the book “Enrique’s Journey” by Sonia Nazario, family is a core element. After Enrique’s mother leaves for the U.S., the whole concept of their family gets distorted. The walking out of Enrique’s father and the abandonment of his grandmother help to disband the family even more. Enrique also threatens to repeat the same mistakes his family made with his daughter when he considers leaving her behind in Honduras. Family is the central theme in Enrique’s Journey because of his relationship and resentment with his mother, the rejection of his father and grandmother, and Enrique’s decision to leave his daughter, Jasmin, behind.
An adolescent man named Enrique makes the most astronomically immense decision of his life, he chooses either to stay with his mother in America or return to Honduras. For example, in the novel Enrique’s Journey it states , “ He tries to put the love he has always felt for Lourdes above resentment he has harbored all these years… He even begins to make plans to move from North Carolina to Florida. He does not want to live apart his mother anymore.” (Nazario 235).
Robin Thicke’s music video to his song “Blurred Lines” avidly contributes to the patriarchy, while portraying sexism, gender standards, and beauty standards. His music video can be analyzed from a feminist theory approach, as it’s evident that his song and video contribute to a patriarchal society and its inherently sexist and sexualized ideologies. The ideology behind the song and music video is purely sexual and about male dominance. The lyrics to the song and actions in the video exhibit extreme over sexualization and objectification of the women. Analyzing this piece of popular culture through a feminist approach opens up a provoking conversation about how popular culture functions in a patriarchal culture. Analyzing pop culture though a feminist theory can allow for a larger variety and more in-depth analysis about the social aspects and political agenda within popular culture.
I can only imagine what immigrating to america is like for these families, everyday children my age and younger are risking their lives to come to America and It really makes me appreciate how much I have. For Lourdes, Enrique, and Maria Isabel in Enrique’s Journey they must make the hard decision of leaving everything they grew up with in Honduras to come to america for a better life. Lourdes, Enrique’s mother, could no longer afford to feed and send her children to school and was struggling to make money with her job. “Lordes can think of only one place that offers hope… Lourdes has decided: She will leave. She will go to the United States, and make money and send it home.” (p.20) Lourdes decides to make the trip because it
Fort Morgan is just like any other small community in the United States. We have little town gatherings like Bobstock, have the whole gym filled with parents and fans for every sport, and country fairs. But, a little bit unlike other small towns, we are extremely diverse and could use something bigger to help, develop, and benefit our community as a whole. Something that could help us succeed like that could be the One City/One Book project which is a project designed for one whole city to read the same summer reading book. There are many ways that this project could ultimately help us out such as the themes that some of the book, like Enrique’s Journey could help our community that's separated by many different types of groups come together
In the novel Enrique's Journey, the author, Sonia Nazario, uses strong senses of imagery throughout her writing to reinforce the message and the emotional appeal for readers. Nazario’s talented sense of imagery strongly supports the comprehension and understanding of the readers, where they can visualize and feel every aspect of the story in their heads. These aspects create engagement and emotion among the reader and motivate them to read more. Nazario’s novel carefully creates an enhanced story of the specific actions and narratives throughout the book, producing a strong ability for readers to visualize the stories in their own minds. Enrique's Journey consists of a treacherous expedition of a little boy, leaving his home country, Guatemala,
In the 2015 kendrick Lamar song “u”. Kendrick describes the feelings that constantly haunt his heart and the guilt he carries everyday. Whiskey Lullaby is a song sung by Brad Paisley (ft. Alison Krauss) which narrates the story of a soldier coming back from war to find his wife in bed with another man. After this, the man drinks away his life trying to escape the pain until he commits suicide. Then the song continues to talk about how the woman follows down the same path after hearing about his death. In the end of the song they both get buried next to each other which symbolizes how they are finally together. The audience for this country song is those who have served or who have had family members serve. The unexpectedness of how life will figure itself out when the soldiers return. Also, how hard it is for families when their loved ones are out fighting, and they are
Did you know that people in other countries have jobs that can not even sustain life? This is a very detrimental problem for the country and the family within that country. Sadly, the people within the country come to a point of recognition that they are going to have to change their circumstances in life. So they have to make a difficult decision leave their family to be able to give their children a better life by sending money back to the home country or take their oldest child out of school to start selling things on the streets. If the parent decides to leave the home country, then she will start a process of immigration to another prosperous country like the United States America without looking back to change her

The topic I’ve chosen to write about for this week’s journal is a song that I have been listening to recently titled Mojado by Ricardo Arjona, which translates to wetback. Ricardo Arjona is a Guatemalan singer and songwriter that sings about a variety of topics in his songs, such as love, sexuality, racism, and immigration. Mojado begins by narrating the story of an immigrant man that crosses the border. The lyrics state that although he has crossed the border, he has not been able to transform himself into the man he dreamed of becoming. The chorus then states, “If the pale moon slips through any cornice without any permission, why does the wetback need to show with visas that he is not of Neptune?” Arjona uses this comparison to show that
Thanks to this album, she gained international fame since her two first albums were just sold in Colombia. Later, after a year, she released her fourth album, “The Remixes,” which include some songs from “Pies Descalzos” in remix style. On 1998, she began to work with the Cuban producer, Emilio Estefan. While working with him, she recorded another album called “¿Donde Estan Los Ladrones?”(Where Are the Thieves?) Because of this album, she was called the “Latin Queen of Rock and Pop.” Later on 2000, she recorded the “Unplugged Album” which was a mix of songs (sung in a mini live concert) from “¿Donde estan Los Ladrones?” and “Pies Descalzos” And this is all the work she has done to become a star.
