Stop Polluting
How bad does it feel when you throw a cup on the ground after you are done with it? Or even eat a fast food sandwich and then throw the wrapper out of the car window when you are finished? In the moment it doesn’t faze many but in the long run it will affect us all and the world we live in today. Throughout our everyday lives as human beings we do many things that may hurt others or the environment and don’t even realize it, solely because it isn’t hurting us in the moment or effecting our daily routines. Things happen to be this way because some of us are oblivious to certain problems our world is facing mainly because the worst of it all hasn’t happened yet. When thinking about the environment and the effects we have on it one of the first things that comes to mind, is the impact we have on the pollution because we can’t blame anybody but ourselves. Pollution is such a huge problem throughout the world and it needs to be stopped immediately before our planet goes extinct. Did you know that by the middle of this century there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish if people continue to pollute the seas? Or that each year 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, storm water and industrial waste are dumped into America’s water? There are many reasons why pollution should be stopped and we as a population cannot continue to live in some of the conditions we live in because
What would you do if you woke up and thought, “The only thing we did to our world is destroy it.”As depicted in the text “Silent Spring” and “Nobel Speech”, pollution is the most significant effect people have on the environment.
We live in a world that offers so many things to us. A home, food, water, life itself, yet we don 't take much care of it and are destroying it instead. The presence of pollution has been around for such a great amount of time now that you would expect us as humans, to start noticing the mass destruction we are causing and start doing something about it. Glaciers are melting, water levels are rising, the water and air around is being polluted if it 's not polluted already. There is little being done to try and stop or at least slow down this fatal event. If we do not start taking care of our own home, we will soon be left with no home at all, and the only one’s we can blame for that, is ourselves.
Your day has been great so far. You went on vacation, you found a dollar bill on the floor, you ate your favorite dish, nothing can be better than this. As soon as you walk on the boardwalk you are hoping to see big waves and fish in the sea, instead, you see dead fish and some animals floating in the water next to old car tires, trash, and fertilizer. Now you feel terrible and want to go home. Pollution is devastating. The reason why I researched this topic is that I do not want my family nor my planet to get sick. Pollution can be stopped very easily, it’s just that people “don’t know” how to stop or they just don’t care, which is a serious problem. I want people to see that pollution is mainly caused by humans, and also for them to see that it is a horrible thing that is happening. Some kids litter because they see their parents and their whole family doing it. When I was researching this topic, I noticed that I needed to find out more information, so I asked questions to myself. When did pollution get so bad? How many animals have gone extinct because of pollution? How many people die each year because of pollution? How much does everyone on the planet pollute each year? What is the best way to stop pollution? Can just one person make a difference? After a lot of research, I found out lots of ways that we can stop pollution, so it is possible to end it. Or at least improve the air.
We are getting rid of materials that the world would benefit from. Cutting down trees that produce an enormous amount of oxygen for the people can damage the lives of many. “Air pollution is a grave environmental reality affecting many people across the world and affecting their health and the overall quality of life” (Class notes, Lecture 6).There are certain that we should be protecting, but many do not see a reason to do so, we look at the many products that can come from it not the quality of life.
Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms disposed by daily human activities and natural occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen, so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem’s pH acidity from acid rain, which occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems.
FOR PREVENTING THE EFFECTS GLOBAL WARMING PLAYS ON OUR ENVIRONMENT, AND THE REDUCTION OF CANCERS THAT HUMANS DEVELOP FROM POLLUTION.
What if one individual could save the Earth? Pollution is a looming problem in America because it is everywhere. Found in the land, water, and air, pollution harms the animals and plants as well as the humans. One conservative action a day adds up when every American participates. Everyone calls it America the beautiful, be that as it may, it cannot be beautiful if Americans ruin it with our waste, toxins, and harmful actions. If every individual in American made the choice to make one or more conservative lifestyle changes, then they can keep the world healthy and clean for future generations. Salvation originates when Americans see how deadly they are to the
All Americans know pollution is the introduction of harmful materials to the environment. It is throughout not only the United States, but even spread through the expanses of the world. According to National Geographic, the Antarctic ice sheet has traces of pesticides and other chemicals. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a huge pool of plastic in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With this to consider, common pollution exists like burning coal, trash, pesticides, and even car pollutants. (McDaniel, 2011) From as big as landfills to as small as trash laying on the side of the road, pollution is something residents of the earth witness every day and many choose to do nothing about it. In fact, many people pollute themselves on a daily basis. These examples are evidence that pollution is a widespread issue and needs to be resolved. Pollution is the greatest environmental concern because of all the different types involved including the following: air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution.
Pollution is the action of contaminating air, water or land by harmful substances which are natural and man-made wastes. Such wastes degrade the air, water or land which reduces is quality and usage. Sources of pollutions are automobiles, increased chemical wastes, nuclear wastes and accumulation of garbage in landfills. Air pollution is one type of environmental contamination which has remained as a main problem in the society. Major contaminants include carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrocarbons (HC) and particulates. These contaminants pose critical environmental and health threats. These are not only experienced locally but internationally as well. Other parts of the globe experience worse cases than the other due to certain conditions of the environment. (Baje, Calong & Cudiamat, 2014)
How many times have you heard someone talk about pollution? Or even hear someone bring up the topic of pollution. What about global warming? That involves pollution. In fact that is caused because of pollution. Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people. That is comparable to global diseases such as malaria and HIV (“11 Facts About Pollution” ). Most people do not understand the impact of pollution on themselves and the environment. Pollution can spread through soil, air, and water. Pollution is one of the biggest problems in everyday life. It affects all of the plants and animals.
America's increasingly prominent contamination of water and air from nitrates, lead, plastic and other pathogenic organisms is critical to our environment and the health of our population. Pollution has existed since the dawn of man. However, the transition from a nomadic lifestyle to a settled society escalated pollution. The Roman empire had been the first to introduce lead pollution into the atmosphere. As the population grows exponentially so does pollution rates, primarily in developed countries. It hadn't been until the second world war that industry's begun producing synthetic plastic materials. These materials are hardly biodegradable and therefore accumulate in the environment faster than they can be broken down. It was also in this 1950’s era that scientist first began developing agriculture fertilizers as well as inorganic pesticides. It has been discovered that these particular compounds have a negative effect on ecosystems and humans.
The earth is 4.543 billion years old. Our ancestors have been estimated to date back to six million years, with modern human life dating to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth can be exhibited by the increase of pollution within our world. As our population begins to grow, so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is a mecca to poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors increases pollution levels. The central Valley is a mecca for the climate, natural, industrial, mobile and agricultural components that equate to this growing problem.
Whenever you walk outside, what is one thing you always see, but may not notice? This issue you overlook constantly is pollution, but you are not the only one that does not notice, it is everyone that takes part in this major issue. In my opinion, the government does not take enough part in stopping or lessening this major issue. Across the globe, pollution exists in all communities and continues to worsen, therefore leaders must make environmental issue priorities and commit money and other resources to not only stopping further pollution, but also cleaning up current issues.
The world is dying a little everyday and humans are the reason this is happening. The world is just like the human body. When living things are sick they will get a fever to kill or slow down infectious agents. The world is doing the same with global warming except humans are the infectious agents. Many ecosystems are being destroyed from pollution. One of which is marine life. The oceans are heating up because of pollution, and many of these ecosystems such as the Great Barrier Reef are temperature sensitive. Just a slight change in temperature could have a major effect on the marine organisms. Even though the ocean is vast and full of life, pollution needs to stop because it is harming marine life, affects the food chain by killing organisms that another marine creature might rely on for food, and it is a disruption to the cycle of coral reefs because corals are light sensitive and pollution is making it hard for them to receive the light.
The ecosystem provides its own bio-indicator called a lichen. Lichens consist of two organisms, a fungi and a cyanobacteria (algae) which grow symbiotically. Lichens while they grow symbiotically their relationship of interaction can be described as mutualism. Three basic types of lichens include foliose, crustose, and fruticose. Lichens are durable and can grow in harsh environments where there is little or no soil. Lichens can tolerate severe temperatures both hot and cold. Despite their durability lichen are not impervious, many are sensitive to air pollution because they are dependent on moisture from rain for growth. Smog is a common air pollution which is the result of the burning fuels like coal and gasoline which releases sulfur
