The epitaphs, "Epitaph on a Waiter" and "Theology" both have a sense of a "dwarfish whole". In my opinion Coleridge's meaning of a dwarfish whole is the literal term in the sense that dwarfish means a short body, considering that the poem is defining epigrams which are in fact short witty poems. Coleridge states a epigram is “ [a] dwarfish whole, its body brevity, and wit its soul.” The word choice of dwarfish seems to be a way to personify its meaning of short to introduce the witty idea of describing epigrams with the use of personifications. Also seen in epigram, “Epitaph on a Waiter” this idea of a short body as it has body of just 2 lines. McCord also uses specific word choice. In the title “Epitaph on a Watier”, he chooses to use the

For instance, he sardonically quips that after he quits, “Maybe the mop / will push on without me . . . They will call it Jorge” (21-22, 24). Feeling disregarded, he believes no one would notice his disappearance so long as the mop continued moving. They would call the mop Jorge because, to them, the speaker is merely an object. Clearly, both poems’ speakers are unhappy with the lack of appreciation or even acknowledgement they receive for their
In mocking the organization of a real eulogy, the publisher illustrates her negative attitude towards the death of the working man and the lack of remorse for his departure. The flow of thought in the composition reveals an impersonal tone, allowing characters to remain unimportant and nameless, which is in a satirical contrast to the true sense of loss usually presented by obituaries. Her structure mirrors the corporate mindset that every individual has an ‘expiration date’ - identifying the characters by their age - the “fifty-one-year-old deceased”, the“forty-eight-year-old widow”, and the “sixty-year-old company president” (Goodman line 32). This organization of the characters through numbers showcases the labor addict’s lack of importance to his company - bringing up a major societal problem within corporate America that only sees its workers as statistics. Goodman pokes fun at the sense of fondness and loss created by eulogies in order to reveal the insignificance of the man’s life to the business world - who care more about profits than the lives of their employees.
The hit broadway musical, The Waitress, features Jessie Mueller and Drew Gehling in a love triangle as Jesse's character, Jenna, falls for Gehlings character, Dr. Pomatter, when he alludes to his feelings for her in the song, It only takes a taste. Prior to this scene, Jenna was stressing out about her newly discovered pregnancy and was thinking about how much her husband had been drinking, and with all of this uncertainty plaguing her life, Jenna turns to Pomatter and allows all of her walls to fall. What does Pomatter do instead of council Jenna? He decides to hint at strong feelings for her, seemingly adding more to her plate. Dr. Pomatter uses metaphors, and allusions to better articulate the prominent theme of Jenna either making things better or things being better with her there to experience them.
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - I am the groom's father, Ken, and I have the great privilege of being best man. I have recently found out there are two reasons why J W asked me to do this job. 1) To make him look younger and slimmer in the photos. 2) Because he didn't want to burden any of his friends with the terrible prospect of having to give this speech.
When the class was told that we would have an obituary assignment, I thought it would be really interesting to do because when do you ever think to write your own obituary? I understand that writing the obituary would make it more surreal, that one day our life will come to an end. I remember you telling the class to try to put a picture of ourselves on our obituary to make us believe it really happened, so that’s what I did. I can say that after this assignment, it did make me think more about how I live my life and what things I should change.
Good evening. I would like to begin by welcoming each and every one of you to this joyous and stressful occasion.
The concept and belief of honor in the Columbian culture in Chronicle of a Death Foretold is one of the deciding aspects of the character's actions, motives, and beliefs. Nobody questions the actions taken to preserve ones honor because it is such an important moral trait that one must cherish. In this society a man or woman without honor is an outcast to the community and to the culture. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold two twin brothers are burdened with defending this tradition of honor. The brothers find out that their sister has lost her virginity before marriage and she claims that Santiago Nasar is to blame. To regain the honor of their sister, and their family the brothers believe it is their duty to kill Santiago Nasar. Could such
After walking out the doors of my job at Wendy’s for the last time, I wondered what else besides the money and free food did I actually gain. I did gain weight and I did gain experience for my resume but what other positive attributes did my first job at Wendy’s give me? So, as I sat down and pondered, I realized that I enjoyed working at Wendy’s because I learned time management, gained more ambition and became more mature.
Spradley and Mann chose to do their research at Brady’s bar because it is an ordinary setting where they could study interactions between male and female. First, Brady’s Bar provided a setting to define the female role. Secondly, it is a place where both male and female interactions are important and reflect traditional aspects of larger society. Lastly, the traditional aspects of Brady’s signified the traditional view of how women should present themselves as passive sex objects whose status is of lower hierarchy than men.

It was June 1967, when my father quit his job as a mechanic and opened a restaurant in Chicago. Being the youngest of eight children (one which died prior to my birth), everyone in the family had to help out in order to make the restaurant a success.
It’s always nice to go out to eat, order a nice meal that you do not have to cook and be served everything you want. When going out to eat, have you ever thought about the person that is serving you food, getting you drinks, and making sure you have a pleasant experience at the restaurant of your choice? That person is a server. He or she is a waiter or waitress. I’ve gone out to eat a lot, and I’ve always been a little curious what is like to be the person serving the food and not eating it.
Do you need some place to go eat after church or just to hang out with friends? Golden Corral is the kind of place you can go to hang out with your friends and chill. The restaurant usually gets so busy on weekends that you will not have a space to park your car. If you want, you are welcome to park in the back, but it is a long walk to the entrance. The food is worth the walk, and many people do not mind because they love bringing their families to this restaurant on weekends. It is one of the best buffets in Omaha. They offer not only great service, but a fun atmosphere for eating with friends or family, and at a reasonable price.
Today was funeral day. My mom’s funeral. It was a dark October thursday, the clouds were brewing a storm. A slight breeze disturbed my neck. My uncomfortable suit sleeves bellowed in the cold breeze.. I hadn’t felt any emotions since the day of her death, which was weeks ago, almost as if my emotion is grey. It was warm then, as my mind was too. Nowadays, up until today, my mind has been a dark fog, as if my mind was released into the sky, darkening everyone’s day, arriving at my mom’s funeral or just to cuddle up with their friends and family in front of a warm crackling fire, telling the stories of their childhood and how times were better. Not me, my dad usually ignored me and he only worked on managing my mom’s fortune. Yeah. My mom’s
