The epitaphs, "Epitaph on a Waiter" and "Theology" both have a sense of a "dwarfish whole". In my opinion Coleridge's meaning of a dwarfish whole is the literal term in the sense that dwarfish means a short body, considering that the poem is defining epigrams which are in fact short witty poems. Coleridge states a epigram is “ [a] dwarfish whole, its body brevity, and wit its soul.” The word choice of dwarfish seems to be a way to personify its meaning of short to introduce the witty idea of describing epigrams with the use of personifications.
