Currently we live in a society where equality is desired far beyond what we see. Men are not the topic of this subject, women are. Women with the idea of feminism, the most current form of it. Now a day’s feminist have this idea where everything not should, but must be equal, this is the wrong mindset. Sure on paper we all want everything distributed equal, if for example two children are in a room and one of them wants a cookie, the other one well deserves the a cookie, right? Now we can give both children a cookie but did the child take into account for his chocolate allergy. Yes he still really wants the cookie, but we all know that that is not good for him because of the chocolate. This what feminism is today, feminists are the children and the cookies are equality. They want all these things yet I could be detrimental to their own well-being. Yet if you happen to tell them this it will get rejected and the desire for equality will grow as per say a child being told no and then throwing a fit. They do not just want to be equal, they want there to equality all across the board; absolute equality. “The modern women's movement demands equal results, which is not the same as equal rights.” Women do not want total equality, they more so like the idea of it.
The whole idea of feminism revolves around phrases like that’s not fair. Why don’t they just go out and create change on their job because this is what men are told to do, so with the same “equal” standard they should do so as well. On a site about what it is to be a man one of the first things listed is,” if a man doesn't like his job, he gets a new one” (chiarella, tom). Men are not allowed to complain about what they got, all they see is working or not working. If they do end up saying something along the lines of unfairness they will be greatly frowned open. It is this role that all men have been told since they were kids to be a man and for full equality women would need to embody this. Then there is the double standard with the things that men are expected to do, like when they go out on a date it is “rude” for the man to not pay for his date. If a man were not pay for your meal would you continue to get to know him?
It is things like the date
In order to understand the present day feminist movement, one must understand how feminism originated and the basic definition of feminism. What comes to mind when you hear the word feminism? For many, phrases like “man-hater” and “feminazi” have become equated with feminism. However, feminism is quite simply defined as “political, economic, and social equality of
Justice and equality are both two very abstract concepts with numerous controversial definitions that are never agreed upon. Depending on the situations, justice can be the same as equality, or not. In the modern world, justice is often used as a political slogan, rather than a meaningful pursuit. Meanwhile equality is also one of the leading ideals of political movements, such as equal rights movements for marriage, voting, etc. In order to answer the question: is justice the same as equality, it is necessary to understand the precise meaning of equality and justice, the relationship between the two, the measurement of the two, and their current and historical status.
Feminism is not about female superiority as many assert, and today, most men claim that women want to be superior to men especially after the fight changed to fighting against discrimination and equal chances in employment for women.
When thinking about feminism in today’s society we tend to direct our minds and thoughts to a more radical and powerful train of thought. Feminism has been going on for centuries, with two main ideologies at the forefront; liberal and cultural feminism. Someone who identifies as a liberal feminist is someone who believes that women and men are a like and equal in most respects and deserve equal roles and opportunities (Wood & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017, p. 58). And cultural feminism is someone who identifies as someone who believes that men and women are fundamentally differently; you have different rights, role and opportunities (Wood & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017, p. 58). The women’s rights movement can be understood and broken down into three “waves”.
Feminists today are viewed as raging, man-hating bitches, but feminism in its true sense simply advocates women’s rights. While there are extremes on either side of the scale, most feminists fight
M1): Analyze the importance to public services of good citizens respecting equality and supporting them by respecting the key concepts associated with diversity.
Feminism is a means through which we can finally achieve gender equality. The goal of feminism is for women to finally have the same rights and opportunities that men are given. This is a nearly exact definition of equality. The rights these women are asking for are nothing unreasonable. Feminists seek equal
The definition of feminism is very elusive. Maybe because of its ever-changing historical meaning, it’s not for certain whether there is any coherence to the term feminism or if there is a definition that will live up to the movement’s variety of adherents and ideas. In the book “No Turning Back,” author Estelle Freedman gives an accurate four-part definition of the very active movement: “Feminism is a belief that women and men are inherently part of equal worth. Because most societies privilege men as a group, social movements are necessary to achieve equality between women and men, with the understanding that gender always intersects with other social hierarchies” (Freedman 7).
Feminism is the belief that people of all different backgrounds should be treated justly and fairly. Feminists believe that all people deserve equal pay to those in the same job. Otherwise put, “Feminism is an interdisciplinary approach to issues of equality and equity based on gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, and sexuality as understood through social theories and political activism.” (EKU “What is Feminism?”) Such as, if a man in the same job doing the same things as a woman in that same job, they should be treated as equals. They should both earn the same amount of money for the job that they do. However, the wage gap is pushing this away from well-working women. If a man earns one dollar, a woman today earns just seventy-nine cents. This is unacceptable in many ways. Women are no different from men. They both can be hardworking and loyal employees. Sexism in the workplace is pushing single mothers and women back farther to being able to support themselves and support their families.
Modern feminism is similar to proto-traditional feminism, except that modern feminism also advocates for equity. First, the difference between equality and equity is that equality gives everyone the same treatment in order to achieve some goal, whereas equity gives everyone the treatment they require in order to achieve some goal. For example, say there are three men trying to look over the same fence, a very tall man, a medium-height man, and short man. It would be equality if we gave each man a stool that was 2 inches off the ground. It would equity if we gave each man a stool with a height that allows each one to look over the fence. So the short man would get the tallest stool, and the tallest man would get the shortest stool. However, since every man received a stool, we treated him equally. Modern feminism is the same idea. We must give every woman the same opportunities to achieve a certain goal, and also make sure those opportunities are catered to their specific needs. For example, modern feminists advocate for affirmative action in programs like universities, so that they are advantaged over men, yet on the same level as men.
Feminism, there has been a fight for woman equality for so many years now, and what have it been turned to? Feminist don’t fight for been an equal anymore they fight to get greater, and not in the correct aspect of things. Fighting for been great is well great; However, this needs to be done with the power and abilities within the female, not by demanding it. How can females be great when they no longer attempt to show the potential they have or acquire, but with demands that are just not fair. A woman asks to be equal in the military and is not willing to accept to also be signed up for the draft. That is just not right. Equality should be in every aspect of the word equal. Not just whatever the person want to be equal in. Growing up believing
Many times in life men do not think that women can do the same things that they can; whether it’s picking up boxes or being president. There will always be that “macho man” thought of the man being stronger than the woman. In many jobs women might do the exact same thing that men do except men are getting paid more than women even if it is an insignificant amount, it happens in many places and even though many people disapprove of it there are still jobs like that out there. And there are still employers who think that a woman should not be in the work force if so home. Many feminist have been working to solve this problem and there are still people who are working to solve and change many more of these problems, and even though in some places it doesn’t seem like it, feminism and feminists
The second paragraph of the United States Declaration of Independence states “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Take a moment to think about this statement, and now apply it to modern day North America. Do you think that this message of equality has been promoted and established? Some of you may say yes, whereas others, not so much. Yes, North America has taken large steps towards creating a society of equal prospect, with examples like wage gaps being reduced (slowly) and gay marriage being promoted instead of shamed. Yet, the one overriding issue that still stains the reputation of America like an ugly birthmark, is racial discrimination. And just like a birthmark, it can be hidden for a time, but it is guaranteed to be exposed eventually. As you may have read in the promotional material, my presentation details the struggle to promote acceptance and equality for those who are unjustly discriminated in “The Land of the Free”, using examples from A Dark Brown Dog by Stephen Crane and Let America be America again by Langston Hughes.
Human beings are not equal. No matter how hard we have fought we still need to fight and there will always be someone standing in the way of equality. Feminist have been fighting for decades for equality. Although feminists have been fighting for equality it is important to note that with its own ranks feminists have always had their fair share of discrimination and ignorance. Discrimination and using it to get ahead in things like politics is very common surprisingly. Like the dark secrets of Columbus that have remained hidden for centuries but now have had some light shed on them, we will shed a light on the dark side of feminism and discrimination.
one of the most important and complicated dilemmas of human philosophy: how do we choose
