9. What is meant by shared identity?

Shared identity – when two or more people have the same characteristics, for example: name, height, eye colour, date of birth.

10. Explain and give examples of how an individual can identify themselves as belonging to a number of different groups.

Each of us can belong to many different groups.
We can categorize ourselves as a student, as a teacher and so on. We try to accept the identity of group which we are categorizing ourselves to. So if you think that you belong to a student group, you try to behave like you think students usually do.

11. Describe yourself in terms of your multiple identities.

At work I am a team leader, not big, but boss , at home I am a partner for my boyfriend and at my driving lessons I am a student.

12. What is meant by stereotyping and labelling?

Labelling – is a form of prejudice and discrimination. Can happen on basis of gender, ethnicity etc. People do label others to identify and differ groups of our community.

Stereotyping and labelling means when people are judging others based on some common characteristics. For example: black people are less hygienic than white; women are less smart than men.

13. Explain why some people stereotype others.

We often do stereotype others just because it is more simple to refer a person to a particular group.
