EQUALITY AND EQUITY IN PHYSICAL NEEDS FOR PEOPLE IN AMERICA. This image reflects America to me by, showing that giving people what they need leads to success. To me, America is a country only provides good health care, housing, and food to the wealthy. America was founded on the idea that everyone has freedom and liberty, yes everyone has the right to freedom but i believe you aren't free until you have everything you need. Some nations are are good at providing what everyone needs, but America is a country I feel provides needed things only to the people who can pay for it.
My local political party, recently our President claimed that inequality is the “defining challenge of our time,” but today I stand before you to challenge that notion in its entirety. I do not wish to demean such enthusiastic thinking, but I would like to indicate that this notion acts under the assumption that there is equality. How can we fix inequality if in its premise it is immeasurable? Instead, we should focus our efforts on the more pressing challenges in our own community such as hunger or the illegal drug epidemic.
The Federal Reserve System is the most powerful institution in the United States economy. Functioning as the central bank of the United States, acting as a regulator, the lender of last resort, and setting the nation’s monetary policy via the Federal Open Market Committee, there is no segment of the American economy unaffected by the Federal Reserve [endnoteRef:1]. This power becomes even more substantial in times of “unusual and exigent circumstances,” as Section 13(3) of the Federal Reserve Act gives authority to the Board of Governors to act unilaterally in lending and market making operations during financial crisis[endnoteRef:2]. As illustrated by their decision making in the aftermath of the 2007-2008 Great Recession,
The divide between the rich and the poor is defined by success. While the wealthy live in a utopian world where everything goes according to their needs, low class individuals live in a dysfunctional society trying to make ends meet. Aside from the obvious differences, society judges you by the size of your wallet. In The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap, by Matt Taibbi, he argues about the large wealth gap that most of individuals are oblivious to and sometimes refuse to see. Taibbi goes after the truth, uncovering how white collar criminals walk freely after committing the biggest of crimes, while the blue collars get criminalized and convicted for simple misdemeanors. The wealth gap between these
The crowd began filing into Sister Jean’s soup kitchen on Pacific Ave. in Atlantic City, N.J. well before lunch was to be served, while directly across the street, people with money to burn strolled into Donald Trump’s massive and garish Taj Mahal casino.
George Washington (1732-1799), the most famous person in American history, was born on February 22, 1732 on his father’s plantation in Virginia. His father, Augustine, a third-generation English colonist firmly established in the middle ranks of the Virginia gentry, was twice married. He had two sons, Lawrence, and Augustine, in 1718 and 1720, before his first wife, Jane Butler Washington, died in 1728. In 1731, Augustine married Mary Ball (1709-1789), and George was born a year later. Five other children followed Samuel, Elizabeth, John Augustine, Charles, and Mildred (who died in infancy). About 1735 the Washington family moved from Westmoreland County to Augustine, Sr.’s plantation on Little Hunting Creek, and lived there until they moved
Today in America, income and wealth inequality has continued to grow at an unsettling pace. The rich continue to get richer, while the number of people categorized as lower class grows exponentially. As Joseph Stiglitz has explained, many theories that are seen as strongly Republican, such as the trickle-down effect, has caused the rich to take money from the poor, and as a result the lower class grows and the middle class disintegrates. The top 1 percent of America’s households currently holds 30 percent of America’s economy, which is much more than other first-world countries and helps to emphasize the extremity of inequality currently in America today. This increased inequality has in turn caused America to become a much more divided society; those born in poverty typically stay in poverty, with little to no chance of self-improvement due to a lack of education provided in their areas. In contrast, those that are born wealthy typically go to better schools, have better health care, and are all but spoon fed information on how to remain wealthy. These two sides of society almost never cross, and this causes the country to be more divided than ever. In order to limit this inequality, drastic changes must be made, such as large corporations paying their fair share of taxes and giving back to the lower class, and minimum wage should be raised. If everyone in America works together, we can raise social mobility and re-unite what has become an increasingly divided country.
Our society is in a downhill spiral. There is no liberty, no equality and there is no physical value of money. We live in a world in which prison companies and children’s hospitals are traded publicly on the stock market. Virtual currency is the only thing that these corporations strongly care about. There are no boundaries when profits are in concern. We live in a society that is dominated by the attraction of money. Greed is the characteristic that is pervasive, not generosity or compassion. People are encouraged to be selfish, not charitable. The idea and function of governments will only change if people’s minds alter first.
The fact that the 1% global elite owns 48% of the world wealth, is an issue which should no longer be ignored. It is a problem that everyone knows is prevalent, but still people are ignorant to its intricacies. Surfing through the internet I found an article composed of edited research gathered by Oxfam, an international organization who battles global poverty. Its main point was, that America has been suffering from extreme inequality. The problem has corrupted the government and stunted economic growth. There are only a handful of people holding onto the wealth through gaining political power. This power allows them to escape paying the proper taxes, and hoard their wealth. Oxfam revealed that, extreme wealth has been able to be passed
How would you explain the finding that people in high-income economies seem hap- pier than people in low-income economies, but, over generations, Americans do not say they are happier even though the nation grew richer? Perpective on life and the quaility of life is why Americans feel less happy, even if the nation is getting richer and richer richer.

There should be greater economic equality between the social classes of the great United States of America. While there is no agreement of a full blown communist or socialist revolution, a la Karl Marx, there is agreement that there should be slight changes towards this idea of equality. According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, a social contract (theory) “is the view that persons ' moral and/or political obligations are dependent upon a contract or agreement among them to form the society in which they live” (Friend). The current American contract is debatable, and the exact definition depends on each person individually. Similar to Hobbes and Rousseau alike, Daniel Mallock on American Thinker believes that the social contract
The Arctic Mining Consultants crew, led by Tom Parker, had a job to stake a claim of almost 60 miles of line. The job was budgeted for seven days, requiring that each of us would be required to complete a little over seven “lengths” per day. My name is John Talbot. I was one of the three field assistants hired by Parker to complete the project. If all four of us could complete the 7+ lengths per day over the seven day period, we would each be awarded a $300 bonus. Unfortunately, the job was not completed on time, with a shortfall of a mere 2.5 lengths, and we did not receive the bonus. This analysis will focus on the areas of Motivation, Groups and Teamwork/Power. Issues surrounding these areas contributed to our failing to complete
All employees analyze their environment and strive to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication they put into the company, in a word they are seeking justice. Justice can be defined as a person receiving what they feel they are entitled to and if they do not receive what they deserve the situation may board on injustice. Unfortunately in today’s society justice and appreciation are not given out to all those deserving (Pinder, 1998). A major problem to address is how to keep the motivation level high in a company when the employees do not feel appreciated.
Social Equality has always been a concern of persons living in the United States. One of the main points was the issue of same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage isn’t a new concept in the American social way of life. States used to have the legal power to dictate what the definition of marriage is and who has the right to marry. In the Supreme Case of Obergefell v. Hodges, homosexuals now have the constitutional right for them to be able to marry.
Many Americans believe that America has one of the most powerful economies that is involved in the global market and the best average living standards. Since the creation of the United States it has been known as the land of endless opportunities, regardless of social or economic classes. Under this philosophy, all citizens should have equal rights and given equal opportunity to progress in the workforce. However many Americans are living full lives and do not have financial obstacles to get over. Even so, millions of Americans are still faced with poor living conditions and struggle with providing for their families basic needs. Whether Americans believe poverty and inequality exist in America exists or not, the authors in three different articles:” Culture of Success” by Brink Lindsey, “A Great Time to Be Alive?” by Matt Yglesias, and “Born Poor and Smart” by Angela Locke, and “The War Against the Poor Instead of Programs to End Poverty”by Herbert J. Gans, shared ideas on how to help fix the problems of the impoverished community and address the cause of the problem. The four articles also explain different biases that the impoverish have to endure everyday.
