In speaking to Coach Chad Price, I learned even more about Erin McGuirt. Chad Price was appointed Head Swim Coach of the Sharks March 1, 2002, so he has a lot of experience in the world of swimming. When I asked Coach Price to tell me about Erin, he was quite happy to share his thoughts about this shining 15 year old Shark. I found it interesting that he described Erin very much like her parents. He even used some of the same adjectives. Coach Price told me, "Erin is always a hard-working girl. She comes to practice prepared and has her goal set for practice before she even gets there." He proudly adds that Erin has grown as a swimmer and as a person. She's very outgoing and smart, has an exceptional work ethic, and knows school comes first." Erin has learned what it takes at the pool and in other aspects of her life. The Shark Team ranges from 40 to 60 swimmers during the year and Coach Price realizes how fortunate they are, that Harding University allows the team is to use their pool and track. "The best part about Erin is her work ethic because she is setting a great example for her teammates. They see what it takes to get to her level." Erin's maturity as well as her other traits are such a good example for her teammates." …show more content…
There is something special that happens in a dad's eyes when he speaks of his daughters, and Allen was no exception. His eyes sparkled as he spoke of Erin. He first confessed that he has been avoiding playing chess with Erin because he's pretty sure she can beat him now. Yes, I found that amusing and relatable. Allen wants Erin to know he is proud of her work ethic, her determination, and that she is a perfectionist like her mom. He said it all when he wrapped up his thoughts with, "She gets it. She gets it when it comes to success." What more could any parent want in their
The Desert Dolphins went head to head with 34 Brawley swimmers and 13 Holtville swimmers.
“Where others saw obstinacy, I saw determination,” Ryder said. When Marilyn Bell’s parents were looking for an instructor for Bell, Gus Ryder was one of them. He has been running “The Lakeshore Swim Club” for over 20 years. When Bell started swimming lessons for the first time, at the end of her lessons Ryder invited her to join a competitive swim club. Ryder soon became one of Canada’s most famous coaches. Without telling anyone Ryder started to train Bell to make the swim across Lake Ontario, but in order for her to earn that she needed to prove herself. Ryder knew she was ready for it so he started to coach her to become a long – distance open water swimmer. Whenever Ryder told Bell to do something she wouldn’t complain to him. He was the main reason why Marilyn was in the lake. Now the Lakeshore Swim Club now teaches swimming to the children who are physically disabled,
Imagine taking one step into a chlorine-filled arena. The humid air rushes onto your skin. An immense smile spreads across your face. This is because you know everything is about to change. In less than 24 hours you will be holding a glistening gold medal in your hand, standing up on the podium while the Star Spangled Banner blares for the whole world to hear and tears will stream down your face. Taking one look back at your coach, Teri McKeever, you realize if it wasn’t for her you would not be here. Graciously, you run up, swing your arms around her body, and embrace her in a powerful hug that says it all. Swimming is a very intense sport and consumes every second of a swimmer’s free time. However, putting in hundreds
“I can’t imagine where we would be in life if we were not happy with our experiences. I have never been one to be driven by anything other than an appreciation for life. That is the vision through which I run my life.” Staying happy and curious is a good way to keep going in life on a path to success. Prior to making a move to Tide Swimming in Virginia Beach, Jackson Roach was the National Youth Team Head Coach for the United States and previous to that National Team Coach’s and Athlete’s Consultant. Roach has more than 40 years of high level coaching experience, which includes mentoring and training olympic medalist and multiple national swimming champions (Roach, 2017). Jackson Roach can be credited for many notable success stories among many Olympians which has aided USA Swimming multiple times to Olympic victory. Roach’s history has proven that his strategy of applying past knowledge to new situations in order to succeed, along with understanding each individual is a perfect formula for attaining each swimmer’s full potential.
This new open position is another opportunity for the Lecanto YMCA to continue to build on the great successes, and attract and hire some excellent talent in Citrus County. As you know I am a strong advocate and supporter of aquatics programs, water safety and age group competitive swimming, in particular in Citrus County and what to see in continue to grow in Citrus County. Competitive swimming builds a strong foundation for a lifetime of good physical and mental health by teaching time management, self-discipline and healthy fitness habits. Water safety and swim lesson are vital for all age groups. The Florida Heath Department states, “Florida had the highest unintentional drowning rate in the nation for the 1–4 year old age group with a drowning rate of 7.54 per 100,000 population. Florida had the second highest drowning rate in the nation for the 1–14 year old age group”. The Florida
At one swim meet she asked the Team Elite coach, David Marsh. if she could try out for the team. She wasn’t, at this point, having great times, but her passion convinced Marsh. With strict training and dedication, Katie got faster and faster times. Eventually, she made
It wasn’t like any other swim practice, no, not like any other I’d ever gone to. No one usually moved to Minot, North Dakota that was also in swimming, so when Emily Pitcher and her family moved to town and came to practice, it was quite a shock for everyone on the team. She moved from Colorado and she had 2 younger brothers and a younger sister as well. They seemed nice enough but there was something about Emily, who was my age, which seemed a bit off.
Calaveras Enterprise sports reporter Guy Dossi spoke with Bret Harte High School head swimming coach Andrea Mazza as the Bullfrogs practiced. They spoke of the season thus far, who has been a pleasant surprise and if the swimmer have a lot of interactions with members from other schools.
I am captivated by everything swimming and it is my ambition to share my enthusiasm with everyone on deck. Unfortunately, this is harder said than done, as I am not a boisterous individual; however, through small pep talks on deck and genuine compliments to fellow teammates I work to make steps towards my overall mission.
Edrick Santiago stands out because of the unique way he leads on and off the field. He has been very determined about turning himself around which makes it a pleasure working with him. He is a leader amongst his peers and transformed his image this year responding well to people and events in an appropriate way. It’s been an eye-opening opportunity for him especially being able to work towards earning a scholarship. He has made huge strides athletically this year being the team captain but more importantly he has become self-aware of his academic situation. Edrick really matured in ways that can be accomplished by empowering others rather than governing others. No matter how tough things got for him, he is free from guilt and unaffected by
Whenever we ask you what the best part of your membership to Delta Delta Delta was, the answer always undoubtedly includes something about the wonderful, lifelong friendships you gained. We recently asked you how your sisters have been by your side during the biggest moments in your life (both good and bad) and Erin Lenahan ’06 had a great story to tell.
Delaney Nolan. When her name is mentioned, everyone has different thoughts coming to their mind. But my thoughts are that she is my best friend. I’ll start from the beginning of our friendship. I will never forget the day we met in Scott’s group, black 1. Even though I couldn’t remember her unique name at first, I could automatically tell we were going to be best friends. Why you might ask? because our first conversation was about how much we hated Scott’s practices. From then on, we were like Zach and Cody, always making up excuses to try and get out of trouble aka Scott’s horrendous sets. Fast forward five years later and we are no longer hating practice (well for the most part at least). It is easy to say that we grew up in the pool together by getting faster and mentally and physically stronger. As our swimming
The journey of competitive swimming started at the age of eight for my local `neighborhood team. I exhibited great potential for the future, for I won nearly all my races. This seemed like the sport
“I found something I love and never gave up," said Michael Phelps while competing in the Summer Olympics. Swimmers dedicate many hours to the pool to reach their goals and to make their family proud. Many ultimate swimmers with record-breaking times can be found throughout the world such as Ian Thorpe, Michael Phelps, and Katie Ledecky. First, Ian Thorpe, a retired Australian freestyle swimmer, achieved his goals by excelling in competitions and pushing forward to become one of the best swimmers of all time. At a very young age, Ian became intrigued by swimming competitively.
Marleen Veldhuis is an Olympic swimmer that has lived in the Netherlands her whole life. She has won 4 Olympic gold medals in three consecutive Olympics. These Olympics were in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and the London Olympics in 2012. She always had the love for swimming and playing water polo but could never decide between the two. She ended up quitting swimming competitively so that she could pursue a career in water polo when she gave up on that and went back to swimming and ended up staying with it. She changed coaches and clubs which turned out to be a good idea because she came very successful. She never went back to water polo after she began her international swimming career and turns out that she is very good at it.
