Are you a leader, or a follower? When asked this question I freeze. What runs through my mind is do other people see me as a leader? Do I lead anything or am I just bossy, and do I just think I am a leader? What I never realized was there are multiple types of leaders. A person doesn't have to be a leader in every situation they are in, but can be a leader in only situations they chose to be. After finishing up unit one I realized what kind of leader I am and the leading skills I need to change to become a better leader, not only for myself but for the people around me. Learning about your own personal leadership style is important to learn and talk about. When learning about different leadership styles, you can then change the leader you are …show more content…
Taking the Myers and Briggs personality test allowed me to answer a series of questions, to then find what combination of the four letters I am. ESFJ were my end result of the personality test. ESFJ stands for Extroverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging. These four words were something I needed to think about when asking myself what type of leader I am. When doing the theory X and Y exercise in class I had to determine which of the two I was. After looking over both X and Y and having class discussion I determined Y fit me best. With just this small amount of information I could now answer the question, Are you a leader or a follower, without freezing. Yes, I was a leader. I then used unit one as a guide to help better myself as a leader. While reading “ Leadership Matters: Unleash the Power of Paradox” by Thomas Cronin and Michael Genovese, I related to only a small part of the text. That small part talked to me more than anything else we have read in class. “ When, why, and how much is leadership likely to matter” (Cronin and Genovese)? Cronin and Genovese then go on to talk about a baseball analogy, …show more content…
In everyday life there a leaders all around. In every situation there is a leader, wether it is yourself or someone else. I have determined after unit one I am a leader. I have more information to learn about leaders, but with the information I have learned I can now become a better leader. I will take away information from TED Talks and reading and apply them to becoming a better leader. Will I always succeed? No, but not every leader does in every situation. I will be the best leader I can be and strive for success in every situation I
A leader is described as a person who guides or directs a group, but I believe it is so much more than that. A leader is a person that inspires people to do good and does good themselves. Due to my extensive volunteer work, I believe that I qualify as a fairly good leader. My outstanding leadership is shown clearly in my participation in community theatre. I have participated in the theatre community at Top Hat Productions, a theatre company located near me, for a couple years. My leadership in this company is shown through my ability to get people involved and my own participation.
Are you a leader? Can you lead a group for yourself? Of course, many are trained day by day to become a leader. However, for some other, it's just an experience from the past and taking it forward. In another picture, military leader is one of the important and frontline roles.
I would first of all like to say thank you for providing me with the chance to apply as a National Honors Society Member. Becoming a member of the National Honors Society would be an outstanding achievement for me. Academics have been the most important thing to me ever since I was able to receive a grade. I understand that to become a member of the National Honors Society you must make intelligible how you are outstanding in the following areas; Academics, Character, Leadership, and Service. While in National Honors Society I hope to grow as an individual in each of these areas as well as assisting others in the growing process too.
What makes me a leader? In class, I enjoy helping other students with the work they are struggling with to guide them in their work. During labs, I usually step up and begin the lab, and assign jobs to everyone, including myself, in order to complete the lab successfully. With this, I also know that I do not know everything and am willing to ask for help. In other group based activities, the process
I do not have to think I am a leader to be one believe it and it will happen. I would like to lead others in the right way to be successful as their leader. Being focused and passionate in what you do it will take you along way. Collaborating with people I would be leading is a great way to understand their mindset of thinking and what they want in life. Always be professional while taking the spot of leading others.
To be a good leader you need the desire, willpower and then go through the never ending process of training, education and learning from experience.(Clark 2004)
When I was younger, I always thought being a leader was all about telling people what to do. Glenwood taught me that was not the case at all. Here at Glenwood, I learned to lead by example. I am the battalion commander in our military program. When I teach our new students how to do a certain commander, I demonstrate it. When I have to teach them how to make their own bed I demonstrated it. Lead by example. I as well learned how to control my emotions and when I lead to lead with my head. All leaders are not perfect. It is not the mistakes that show me who I am, but I how I deal with
Fifteen weeks in the Business Introduction class, I learned how to become a leader with the guidances of, “The Student Leadership Challenge:Five Practices For Becoming An Exemplary Leader”, Student Leadership self assessment, Myers Briggs Type Indicator results, and SWOT analysis. From all the readings and assessments, A leader to me is someone who is able to set a positive example to their peers but also capable of receiving feedback. Leaders make
Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds. Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. This way a leader can decide what work goes in and goes out. Good leaders in history have left a mark in walks of life. But great leaders, they’re different. Great leaders have the ability to make each and every individual re-think their life decisions and choices by
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
Overall, I am a pretty good leader in some areas and like to help others in their time of need. However, I am only a good leader depending on the situation and that is the major thing
There are many kinds of leaders; some lead through position and authority, while others lead through inspiration and vision. Some people are simply natural born leaders. However, whether one was born a leader or has to become a leader, all great leaders spend time developing their traits. Similarly, when you train for a sport, you first learn to develop the fundamentals, and then you work to master and apply them. I’ve been told I am a born leader, but have always sought to improve my leadership abilities through experience. Maxwell states, “The learned leader; has seen leadership modeled most of life, has learned leadership through training, and has self-discipline to become a great leader” (Maxwell, 93). This statement is reflective of my experience during my military tenure, and what it means to me is; leadership must be developed in practice, as well as in theory.
Everyone can be a leader! Leadership is something I hope to enhance in the next few years. I believe that everyone has the capability of becoming a leader, in which can be in many different ways. While currently enrolled in Career Leadership Academy part 1, there are many aspects I’ve learned about what leadership is, how it is viewed, how to improve, and strengths I have as an individual. Through surveys and readings in Introduction to Leadership (Northouse, 2015), and using the Strengths finder assessment to figure my strengths as a person individually, I can learn how to focus on those areas when working with a team. In an effort to maximize and utilize my strong suits, it can very well help me become a better leader in the foreseen
Due to my passive nature, I’ve always avoided leadership roles. With that being said I still aspire to be someone who can be looked to as a leader. In order to reach that goal I observe and try to mimic the actions of people that inspire me. There have been many people I’ve taken orders from, but I have “followed” few. Those are the ones I consider to be true leaders, and have tried to be like myself.
When reflecting on my experience as both a student and a life learner, I never would have considered myself a leader. In fact, I have always been the shy kid who hides in the back of the class and panics whenever it is their turn to respond to a question. College however provided me with an opportunity to develop myself as a leader. I became more active in school activities and actively sought out leadership roles. As I’ve progressed in my professional life, I’ve become more interested in what it takes to make a strong leader. When assuming leadership roles, I’ve always considered myself an authentic leader but I know I’ve often struggled in detailing clear goals for my group or organization. Thankfully, Enrolling in the effective
