ESPN Sports Network On Twitter Chinonso Ukachukwu South New Hampshire University ESPN SPORTS NETWORK ON TWITTER ESPN @espn on twitter is the world’s leading premier website for the latest news, timed videos and in-depth sports reporting. It is one of the most widely-viewed sports content on the web. ESPN @espn uses Twitter to drive both the distribution of and conversations about the articles and videos it produces. According to Sterin, narrowcasting unlike general broadcasting, focuses on a clearly defined audience. “Narrowcasting is foundational to marketing in the digital age because it heightens the awareness of key needs in consumers both real and felt .Narrowcasting is unique in the sense that, it provides marketers …show more content…
Whether it is the stories after a big game or video snippets from the Sports Center team, Twitter essentially helps @espn distribute its content to sports fans everywhere. To maximize its Twitter strategy, @espn sought to find ways to tweet directly from ESPN.com sites and help spread its content even further. ESPN @espn uses Twitter Web target audience on its articles to drive content sharing. ESPN’s sidebar moves down the page as a person scrolls, making it easy for page users to click on the embedded Twitter bird logo at any time. If and when clicked, Twitter’s Web Intent pops up a window with a pre-loaded, custom Tweet, enabling users to quickly share the content of their with their followers. ESPN also places Tweet Intents in each video near the play/pause progress bar. Simply clicking the Twitter bird brings up another window with the suggested Tweet from the ESPN team. It is also being tested by select clients driving mobile app installs and re-engagements. Other Sports Networks have benefited from this approach “by extending their ad campaign from Twitter to mobile apps; they were able to drive incremental reach, strong performance, and promotional efficiencies. They achieved an engagement rate which surpassed industry benchmarks for mobile display campaigns.” The Twitter Audience Platform allows for easy access to connect with their audience throughout their day. Expanding the reach of the Promoted Tweet into apps also made for a unique ad unit that drove strong engagement with videos and articles. Sterin also reiterates the fact that narrowcasting has been made possible through the progress of media technology such as PDA’s, Smartphones etc which has allowed for growing number of audience to be
Yes I do think the Comcast care on twitter help customers service because they are connecting with their customers. They are using twitter to reach out to the customers I think that is a great idea because that shows that they care about their customers service. Comcast is a pretty good company because they are willing to help out people when they are having problem with their cable or anything. My family use Comcast because they are always there to help us out with whatever we need. So I don’t think Comcast using twitter to connect with their customers is a bad thing. I feel like it actually help them because now days everyone is using social media to buy things and to get information on something that they need. So with Comcast using twitter that actually going to help their company grow more and more because now a day a lot of people are on twitter. I don’t see other applications for Twitter for a communications giant like
The main reasons for the use of twitter are that you able to “follow” interesting people, follow trends, good for promoting brands/companies, plenty of celebrity access, and “to the point tweets” as you are limited to type less than 140 characters and finally, a good source for breaking
One of the advantages of twitter is a very simple and educational social network. This allows to be aware of everything that interests you, such as communities, celebrities, or just people who are not famous, but they write very interesting things. Although the twitter is a social network where you
Another way social media has affected the sports world is by bringing fans closer to the game. As a sports fan, I can agree that fans always want to feel closer to the game. That is why people still pay ridiculous ticket prices to attend ball games instead of watching them on TV in the comfort of their living room. Fans have an urge for that connection and closeness. They want to feel apart of the game. Social media sites provide teams and players the unique ability to directly connect with their fans. It used to be the closest you got to a favorite player was a post-game radio interview. Now, you can follow them on Twitter and have rare insight into their everyday world. Players use sites like Facebook and Twitter to give fan’s a behind the scenes look at what happens at home, in the locker room, and on the sidelines. Social media gives pro athletes the chance to interact and share data with fans in a way that was not possible in the past. Fans used to only know about a player from what they read in the paper or saw on TV (Van Schaik) . Now, fans can find out what their favorite player ate for breakfast or what music they are listening to. Fans have yearned for this kind of accessibility for years and now it is becoming a reality. I actually have friend’s that make it a daily ritual
My article discussed the NFL using the popularity of social media to stream their games on Twitter; as well as talked about the contract with BAMtech extending to future plans for the NBA and MLB to do the same. Twitter had 2.1 million viewers of the New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills Thursday night NFL game. Including a pregame show beforehand Twitter had 2.3 million; these consistently growing leagues have found yet another avenue to broaden their product to more countries with streaming on social media. With the exception of a few outliers complaining about the video feed buffering the debut of Thursday Night Football on Twitter was a step in the right direction for sports streaming on Twitter.
In the sports world today, a team now understands that they need to be able to reach their fans in an instant, and the best method to do this is now via social media. The team needs to simply send out a tweet, snapchat, Facebook post, or Instagram post to inform their fans about what is happening at practice, the latest player injury, or a game. Some teams have also begun to ask fans about such aspects of their organization as their schedule. An example of this is when the Boston Red Sox took to Twitter and Facebook to ask their fans about a scheduled game on June 4, 2011. “The club quickly received more than 4,300 Facebook likes and 650 Twitter responses from fans overwhelmingly voting in favor of moving the game against Oakland from 7:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m” (Fisher, 2011, p. 3). This voting allowed for fans to observe a Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Final game that was airing that night. This polling opportunity would come at a time in which taking to social media was at an all-time high. The Red Sox at the time were offering such things during games as “Tweet Your Seat merchandise giveaways and Tweet Your Tunes, in which fans request songs to be played in the ballpark during rain delays” (Fisher, 2011,
The consumer market for ESPN’s streaming service is made up of sports enthusiasts who need access to live events and sports information on-the-go. According to our situation analysis, consumers use ESPN for their sports needs because of ESPN’s strong brand name; the ESPN brand promotes awareness and trust to consumers within the sports entertainment market. Due to ESPN’s focus on a higher purpose, many consumers choose ESPN over competitors for their environmental sustainability and diversity initiatives. Thus, ESPN’s well-known brand name and positive public image bolster ESPN’s favorability among sports enthusiasts within the entertainment market.
The app store and social media sites are considered the way of the world, and if the NFL or any other professional athletic organizations of the same sort desire more revenue and attention, they require a unique trademark to grab the attention of younger generations. Unfortunately, going hand in hand, social media is bound to remove some revenue from physical ticket sales and the seats hold the possibility of being empty. Companies such as ESPN and Fox Sports currently have applications that merely inform the audience of every move that occurs on the field or court. With a simple download from the App Store, people around the world can learn all of the knowledge required about an athletic event at the touch of a screen. For example, on my ESPN App, I have specific teams “favorited” and every game they play, I receive alerts for kickoff, every scoring play, scores at the quarters and halftime, and penalties, along with injury reports and team news. Each sport and each team is specified to personal requirements and previously made alert settings, therefore, I receive every desired alert to my phone about the progress of my favorite
Proclaimed as the hottest company since Google and Facebook, Twitter introduced a revolutionary micro-blogging service in 2006 that allowed users to spread and share short messages of 140 characters (“tweets”) with friends and strangers subscribing to follow their communication flow (as so called “followers”) in order to find out what is happening right now from any point of the globe.
Twitter is a native application that also runs on the android platform. Twitter is a social media-networking application for friends, family and coworkers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. The twitter application was designed with an icon. This design from my perspective has its pros and cons. I would say the first view made me think it was a game with birds. This is why I think an icon used in this perspective was not the right choice. On the other hand, using a text in the scenario which is likely to be a styled way of writing “Twitter” would not be the best design either. However, since the name “Twitter” is a bird that gives a call consisting of repeated light tremulous sounds, it is easier to understand why the logo is a bird.
