“Can we have Berry Fick to the counselor’s office please?” The entire class turns to look at me. I pick up my binder, shove it in my backpack, and leave the room. All of the students are in class, which makes the hallways completely silent aside from the sound of my two year old sneakers hitting the tile floors.
Once I arrive at the counselor’s office, the secretary checks me in and directs me to Mrs. Realtry’s room. When I open the door, I reveal a middle aged woman, in a floral cardigan with her hair in a tight bun, typing on her computer. The door creaks, so she turns to look at me and puts on a fake smile. “Please Berry, take a seat.”
I sit in the chair across from her desk, and move it closer to the desk. “Am I in trouble? Did my

Realtry turns her spinning chair to face the computer, types very quickly, then looks through her drawers for who knows what. As she directs her attention back to me, her face tightens and she purses her lips, as if she has to break some bad news. “Berry… I wish we had this meeting before. It’s a little late now to apply for scholarships, but I have a few papers I can give you for more information. Would you be interested?”
I respond with a slight nod, and immediately Ms. Realtry opens a drawer of her desk, revealing a plethora of manilla folders. She looks through them, pulls out a folder, and hands me a single sheet of paper. One piece of paper holds all of my options for the future. Other kids have been walking around with packets, and this is all I get. “Do you have any resources for the community college?” “Oh of course, yes.” Ms. Realtry looks back into her drawer and pulls out a small booklet which she slides along the desk to me. “Your financial difficulty limits the amount of colleges you can apply for. You could possibly get a scholarship, and there is also community college.” Ms. Realty tries to be encouraging, but really it just places more emphasis on the value of money in this country.
“If I don’t know what I want to do, what is a good place to start for me to begin looking into careers?” I ask.
“Well, the county has a program with a quiz you can take online that will suggest a job for you. Here,
According to the American Counseling Association (ACA) website the organization’s mission is to help society by offering well trained professional counselors. In the process, assisting counselors develop into the contingent professional’s in which society can depend upon, at the same time stimulating human self-worth and diversity. When counselors are trained in graduate school the aspects that goes into becoming a professional counselor, is they equipped with a vast amount of knowledge. Some of the basics include how to work with diverse populations, acknowledging their own biases, how to advocate for the client who is among an oppressed population, congruency with their clients, empathic listening and communication skills, knowing when to refer a client to the appropriately trained counselor and many more. All of these elements and more are just some of the tools, professional counselors are required in order maintain the standards the American Counseling Association’s mission statement entails.
Cognitive-behavioural therapy is widely short-term and concentrates on enabling clients to deal with very particular problems. Often six weeks to six months sessions of course depending upon the problem it is pacifically goal directed and places great weight upon self-help as a long term coping tool that the client can take away with them and successfully use. Cognitive-behavioural therapy believes that clients can learn the wrong ways of developing and making sense of information during their cognitive development. This can often lead to distortions in the way they identify reality, it’s the job of the therapist to enable them to work this out.
On the issue of abortion with the 19-year old rape victim, I feel that she has a right to choose whether or not to go through with the abortion. As her counselor I have to put my personal feelings aside and help her to make the best decision for herself. My client is firm in her plans to have the abortion and since she is an adult her parents have no legal right to make her change her mind. I am unable to convince the parents to change their minds as they are not my clients and I have no input in how they feel. According to the ACA (2005) I must be sensitive to the family’s cultural beliefs and in the
Counseling is defined as ”the use of therapeutic strategies to help clients address personal concerns and mental health issues” (Nystul, 2016). Pursuing counseling as a career involves many years of formal study and certification or licensure. After receiving licensure to practice as a professional counselors it is a requirement to maintain involvement and certification in certain associations in order to hold your license. These association often require further education and/or professional practice in order to maintain membership in these associations. It is quite obvious that counseling requires a large amount of commitment and passion in order to pursue it as a career and maintain a title as a counselor. I have conducted an interview with a professional counselor in order to further understand the experience of being a counselor. The interview that I conducted explores the requirements of maintaining and receiving a counselling career, the experience of being a counselor, and what characteristics or skills a professional may have. The Individual who agreed to the interview was a counselor by the name of Susie Facio. Susie Facio, through this interview, will be giving us a look at what influenced her to become a counselor, what her work entails on a day to day basis, and what qualities and skills she has acquired in order to become a successful counselor.
The choices we make early in life have an enormous impact on our future. I have always known that I wanted to directly impact people’s lives and my personal experiences have set me on the school-counseling path. In the future, I would love to influence another generation of students to soar for their dreams.
Values, Morals, and Beliefs are components that play a role in an individual’s self-identity. The establishment of these components shape human nature, behavior, and the development of an individual’s purpose. The basis of these fundamentals has contributed to my desire to become a counselor. This paper will discuss my views of human nature, factors of behavior changes, goals of therapy, the roles of a therapist, and the counseling approaches that I chose to incorporate in a practice.

The National Board for Certified Counselors began in1983. This examination was intended to assess knowledge of counseling information and skills. I will describe the test and its usefulness. My purpose is to evaluation the extent to which the NCE fulfills primary psychometric criteria. Comprehensive understanding of the NCE is necessary in order to pass the NCE. Collectively, this information should aid in a complete understanding of the NCE.
“So I’ll go to community college. I’ll get more credits and make a good application.”
Transitioning from a community college or a high-school to CU may seem overwhelming and intimidating in the beginning. It is because the admission process looks overwhelming, the cost the education seems intimidating, and responsibilities feel unclear. Transitioning to CU is, indeed, challenging. However, there are series of steps to be taken to ease the process of getting enrolled in CU. While self-motivation is the key to the successful transition, the overwhelming could be settled by making a things-to-do list, the intimidation of the cost could be overcome by talking to financial advisors, and unclear responsibilities could be elucidated by talking to academic advisors, students, family, and friends.
Theories play an important role in how a counselor serves their clients. Theories provide counselors with a foundation on which to build their counseling style. “Theories ground us as professional counselors. They provide a means to understand what we are doing, how we are serving clients, and how to explain counseling to clients” (Erford, 2010). Counselors are responsible for being aware of different theories in order to apply them appropriately within their practice. Established and new theories play an important and constant role in mental health counseling. Established theories in mental health counseling are based on “empirical or scientific foundations” (American Counseling Association, 2005). The best way to gain the most
Dual relationships and the ethical behavior that revolves around boundaries with clients present a multitude of very complicated situations to counselors where a clearly defined course of action is not always evident. Aside from no accord amongst mental health professionals and boundary issues being unavoidable at times, recognition and prediction of potential benefits or pitfalls correlated with dual relationships can prove to be troublesome as well (Remley & Herlihy, 2010). For most cases, it is best if an outline is used to discern when it is appropriate for a counselor to breach the client-counselor boundary.

The therapist slowly reaches over the table to grab her notepad and pen. Jack was paranoid by this, he blinks cautiously as if the therapist was threatening, she was. The therapist’s name was Jenna, Jack noticed her name tag on his way in and had hoped that she wasn’t who he was meeting with.
