Theme 1 from your literature The purpose of the first article, Level of Functioning in Autism Spectrum Disorders: Phenotypic Congruence Among Affected Siblings, is to determine familial aggregation amongst siblings with autism, specifically twins. The main question raised in this article is whether “individual differences in levels of overall functioning can be explained by genetic [factors] versus environmental factors” (Goin-Kochel et al., 2008). My question asks “Are siblings more likely to be concordant of ASD amongst MZ twins or DZ twin?” which is supported by this article that researched the familial aggregation amongst siblings and twins with ASD. In my opinion, this article supported my research question the most out of the three articles chosen for my research paper. The same conclusion from the previous article, Level of Functioning in Autism Spectrum Disorders: Phenotypic Congruence Among Affected Siblings, was also made in this article, being “Our data support greater ASD concordance in MZ vs DZ twins” (Rosenberg et al., 2009). The article goes into great depth about concordance and discordance amongst MZ and DZ twins, along with other specified disorders that were comorbid with the ASD diagnosis. The major points of the article are best stated in the provided tables (5 tables total). These visuals provide the data collected from their research population of 277 twins, including specific information that supports my research question. All of the collected data seen in the visuals supports the main idea of the article. The author provided sufficient evidence throughout the article, including the statement that “in our study, MZ concordance for ASD is consistent with earlier literature, which reported rates of 80% to 100%, suggesting that our data [is] reliable” (Rosenberg et al., 2009). The author brought authenticity to the article by collecting and displaying parent reports, results from IAN questionnaires, social communication questionnaires, and social
