Since Joe joined the Cross Country team, Bob joined the Tennis team. While it will keep Bob in shape, Joe will be in better shape because Cross Country is a more physically demanding sport. It’s late October and basketball tryouts have begun. The coaches have been watching Joe and Bob very closely during the tryouts. They are very impressed with all the new skills Joe has acquired over the summer. However, they are not impressed with Bob’s performance because he is showing no effort and having a hard time keeping up with the team during the exercises.
At the end of tryouts, Don, the head coach, gathered all the athletes who tried out for the team together to tell them what spots they would be playing. The first pre-season game would be this Saturday. Joe and Bob were listening very closely as Coach Don was reading off the names of those who would be starting. They were anxious to see who would get the spot of starting point guard. Coach Don choose Joe as the starting point guard. Joe was elated to be chosen. He was thankful he had put in the extra effort over the
As Joe dedicates himself more to the rowing team that he is a part of, his coaches realize there is a team aspect missing. For a while when the team was rowing together some days Joe would perform wonderfully and other times the
Tidewater Titans baseball team was at its highest peak and we had been unstoppable. Coach Derrick, Coach Tony, Coach Perry, and Coach Darren had all led the team to multiple championships that year. Ever since the beginning, there had always been a problem with Coach Derrick. He had always thought his kid, Grayson was better than the rest. Grayson had taken my position at shortstop in my batting position and the line up. I was left to second base the second less likely place the ball could get hit too.
Coach Steve Rocker is one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in Kentucky’s history. Coach Rocker was very successful in previous years. Strangely, this year was very different for him. For the first time in his professional life, he is falling short of his expectations, the community expectations, and the team’s expectations. His team lost a lot of games, but most importantly the boys had no motivation or desire to bring the team out of the rut they found themselves. His players have lost their will to win, their love for their teammates, and their passion to play. Coach Rocker’s motivational methods that have always worked before and resulted in success are now failing, and he doesn’t know why. He argues that his players have become selfish and bored with winning because they have been so successful in previous years. “And there’s no question that my guys have lost their drive to win because they’ve won so much in the past. Now all they want is individual ‘wins’…which just doesn’t cut it on a team” (Gongwer, 2010, p. 17).
Mastery Charter North’s high school basketball team made it to the finals of the Pennsylvania state tournament last year and are looking to improve this year. This paper will discuss how they plan on being successful again. They will depend on their group traits to keep them bonded together. Also they have some players stepping up and taking leadership roles, after the leaders from last year left.
In the baseball program, coach Jason Smuck stepped down from his position and coach Brendon Mcnulty took his spot. When Coach Mcnulty was asked about his job, he gladly responded. First he was asked, why he wanted to become the baseball coach. He answered by saying, “ The job was open and I worked with the guys as players and as students. I wanted to input my own ideas and thoughts, in the process of coaching a team.”
Ever since Kevin Garnett, a teenager who by-passed college, was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 1995 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, more and more high school teenagers have been making the jump straight to the pros. Since the league draft of 1995, 17 first round picks have been high school players. This means that about 7 percent of first round draft picks in the NBA have been high school teens skipping out on their college education to make the jump to the NBA (Chylinski).
Mr. Thomas Kestner, who is fifteen year old high school student, has been experiencing a persistent state of sadness for the past 6 months. Mr. Kestner has recently moved away from his birth city, leaving behind family members and friends. Since moving he has had trouble meeting new friends. Upon arrival he learned that try-outs for the basketball team was held at the end of spring semester, and because of this he would be unable to be a part of the team this year.
The one thing they didn’t notice is that there was a man, Gage Williams, standing across the gym and he was observing them and saw great potential in them they can be future NBA All-Stars but they needed a little work. So Gage decided to go the next game that the boys play so he can talk to them and tell them how to set plays or set screens, how to pick and roll, and how to cut.
“Man why you never talk loud?” exclaimed Johnny with a serious face. But Mark was just focused on basketball, not the advise his friend was trying to give.” Well, one of these days you're going to have to start speaking up Mark.” Mark just ignored him and went to the gym. When he got there, the coach was already talking. His height, and athletic frame made everybody assume he was great at the game. Knowing this everybody respected him. “Nobody, veteran or rookie has a spot on this team as of right now.” Yelled the coach. “I give out positions to people who are willing to put the work in.” This made Mark feel good, he was very confident in his skills, but now he knew that being a freshman wouldn't hold him
Junior’s basketball coach believes that if people have dedication, and they work hard they will gain hope. The coach ends up putting Junior on varsity because of his hard work and skills. Throughout the time with the coach his belief comes in. In the beginning of tryouts, coach pushes the students to their breaking point. One day of tryouts coach makes the boys run 100 laps. Many of them quit the team because it is too much for them. The coach did this because he was trying to see who had the work ethic and who had the dedication. An additional instance where the belief is shown is during the basketball game against Wellpinit. Junior starts crying in the locker room.
Resiliency is the Key to Success: The Role of Resiliency in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Resiliency is like whack-a-mole. If a mole gets hit down, it will always come back up. In Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Junior shows resiliency throughout the story. In fact, the novel proves that only the most resilient will rise above the rest because Junior earns the respect of Reardan students, Junior accomplishes a lot in basketball, despite the obstacles, and Junior stays resilient when many unfortunate events occur. Junior earns the respect of Reardan students when he attends Reardan High School.
There are numerous different steps required to be a good basketball player. There are different aspects of the game that can drastically change the tempo of the game. Of course shooting the ball is important, but improving dribbling, defensive, and passing skills are also important. A players ability in all phases of the game is what makes them a good player.

First of all, there is me, we also have someone in our band named Brody Bauer, and we just needed one more person in our band but we couldn’t find anyone! So one day we had "tryouts", our "tryouts" did not have very many people there so we put signs up that night for the next morning and there was so many people there. We were looking for the perfect person for it, but then they realized our age and about half of them left, at this time we were only 11.
The first team is the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they choose a 19 year old center from Detroit. I chew my fingernails to nubs watching the screen in anxiousness. After a few minutes, the Toronto Raptors head coach walks up to the stand. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. “Joseph Shronberg,” he says, and then walks away.
