The book I read this quarter was Playground by 50 Cent (Curtis James Jackson III) with the help of Laura Moser. Butterball the main character is an overweight outcast who moved to Garden City Road Island because his parents became divorced and he went with his mother. Butterball beats up another kid and is forced to go to a therapist for his anger issues. With the violence that he caused the other kids respect him. His father also supports his outburst and even makes him steal a pair of expensive shoes. His mother is always working and although she wants to help Butterball he doesn't want it. Butterball learns that another boy is going to a birthday party and that he will try to hit on a girl, called Nia, that he likes and so he attempts to fight him because he thinks he’ll get respect. When at the party he gets beat up by the boy and his friends. Disgraced by his failure he works with his therapist to change himself into a better person. He continued to work hard on his filming hobby and realized that his mother wanted to help him and that his dad would bring him down. He gave up bullying and became a better person for the rest of Highschool. …show more content…

After the incident of Butterball beating up a kid the girl he liked didn’t really see it as something good and this hurt his relationship with her. “Nia kept her eyes firmly fixed on the asphalt under out feet,”(Jackson 57). This quote showed even when Butterball was talking to her she didn’t want to look at him at this moment. While at the party Butterball attempts to beat up Terrence the guy who was hitting on Nia but when Butterball attempted to hit him with a sock full of D batteries he missed and he and his friends beat him into submission. While Butterball left injured he thought to himself, “Not like anyone ever came back to check on me,”(Jackson 194).
