“Understand, our police officers put their lives on the line for us every single day. They've got a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law” (“Police Quotes” 1). I have always dreamed of being in law enforcement. Officers of the law do a great deal in our everyday lives just to keep society safe. I want to be an officer to be able to make an impact on many people's lives. Becoming a police officer takes a lot of heart and determination. To become a police officer you must obtain a high school diploma or GED, pass the law enforcement entrance exam, graduate from the police academy and work towards promotion. In order to graduate from the police academy recruits must undergo 21 weeks of intense training. At the police academy recruits will learn all the following: state laws, criminal investigations, patrol procedures, firearms training, traffic control, defense driving, self-defense, first aid and computer skills (“An Overview of Police Academy Training”). The final step before graduating from the police academy recruits will take the Oath of Honor. “On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution, my community and the agency I serve” (“What Is The Law Enforcement Oath of
It gives me a leg up on other applicants for police jobs that only have a degree or military training. With both military training and a degree, the only competition for a job is someone with both military training and degree like me or someone who already is a police officer and is looking to move somewhere else. The job outlook for future police jobs looks good because as the population increases every year, the criminal element increases as well resulting in more police officers needed to deal with the increase in crime. This increase in police jobs also means there are more openings for advancement to higher level police jobs such as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) or a police dog handler (K-9 Unit). Both of these police jobs appeal to me and would be the pinnacle of my career, only barely being beaten by becoming a SWAT Commander or a Police Chief. Getting either a SWAT or K-9 Officer job is going to be tough because these two higher level police jobs are the most sought after by police officers, especially those officers that are ex-military as in the case of SWAT. In order to get a SWAT or K-9 job, I plan on showing them I am the best person for the job. I am working on this even now by keeping up with my physical training by working out twice a day. I go to the gym for two hours in the morning and then in the evening, doing sprint drills
Some of the goals this year is to get good grades on most of the subjects. What I will do to accomplish that is I will listen in class and study for more than one day. Something I’ve done right I want to continue doing is to read a lot of books and writing excellent essays. I also want to do better in Social Studies. I will do this by studying history facts every week.
Border Patrol has been something I have been interested in doing since I was a freshman in highschool when I started in the law enforcement classes. These young men and women have been trained to handle some of the most dangerous, time consuming, high risk tasks that could include negotiation with criminals, bomb deactivation, or in some serious cases a high speed chase. The first goal i would like to achieve is to get a GPA of 3.5 - 3.8 or higher and to get honor roll. I will achieve this goal by focusing more on my grades and paying more attention in my classes. This goal is important to me because I want to show my family I can do better this year. When I get the paper that says that you were in honor roll. I will
Law enforcement officers have encountered some very deadly days. The life of a law enforcement officer is one of constantly being aware of your surroundings, dealing with the uncertainty of not knowing the individuals you have to approach, and being able to cope with the visual images seen after vicious crimes. The life of a law enforcement officer, who protects and serves, is both challenging and rewarding. The first law enforcement system was established in Boston, Massachusetts over 350 years ago. During this time in the Colonies that were not heavily populated, the sheriff served as the main law enforcement officer. During the 1800’s, 24-hour law enforcement service and systems similar to what is used today began to emerge (NLEMI). Law enforcement officers face incredible dangers. With over 900,000 law enforcement officers nationwide the Federal Bureau of Investigations reported approximately 1,165,383 violent crimes in 2014. Approximately one law enforcement officer dies every 61 hours (NLEMI).The law enforcement profession is the most challenging and dangerous career, because officers must be aware of every law and action they take at all times, manage constant training and stress, and protecting others as well as themselves in the line of duty.

Criminal justice includes programs which students will learn about law, sociology and public administration. Along with a degree (in some cases), students will have to go through training at a police academy. Training programs last 12-14 weeks. These training programs include classroom instruction in “state law, local ordinances, constitutional law, civil rights and accident investigation” (college quest 2014.) Prior to those classes they will learn about traffic control, self-defense, first-aid, firearms and emergency response. Officers most likely will work 40+ hours a week which does contain holidays. To be a police officer there will be many dangerous risks you will be approaching. Most of the time they will be life threatening. To be a police officer or patrol officer you must be able to handle stress well. Law enforcement has been rated the as the highest rate in health risk and unjuries. Police make $27.40 per hour which
What do you want to be when you grow up? Is one of the many questions that are asked by teachers and adults. Through the research and development of this paper, I feel that I am finally prepared to answer that question. College has always been in my plans but which college? Well, I have it narrowed down to three excellent and well -known colleges. Ohio University of Athens, The Ohio State University of Columbus and Miami University are the colleges that I feel would foremost prepare me to become an athletic trainer.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a police officer. I’m sure, as a little boy, what first caught my attention were the flashing lights and sirens on the police cars. It could have also been then the facts that police officer were permitted to carry a gun and had the ability to run red lights. This is why as I grew up and played games like cops and robbers, I was always the police officer. During my teenage years, I later joined the police explorer program and really started to learn about police work. That’s when I

Education is important in becoming a police officer, but how much education is needed? Police officers have a very important job in today’s society. Whether its writing a citation or pulling someone over, police officers always need to be on the ready for anything. Police officers are very important to society. So why is it that they don’t have to get more education then a high school diploma?’ “In one study of disciplinary actions against Florida officers the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) wrote that, ‘Officers with only high school educations were the subjects of 75 percent of all disciplinary actions. Officers with four-year degrees accounted for 11 percent of such actions” (Michelson,March 2016). Police officers need a higher education to be more productive in their jobs because they can get a better perspective of people and their behavior, gain a better understanding of the word patience, learn how to use and understand technology better, improve their communication skills between suspect, offenders, and other officers, go to school while on an agency, decrease in dogmatism, authoritarianism, rigidity, and conservatism. Officers will have a greater acceptance of minorities (diversity and cultural awareness) as well.
