The task of changing oil in your car is neither as easy as threading a needle nor as difficult as building a rocket. But this is the least you can do to serve your car at home if you only know and follow a simple procedure, precautions and tips. Following which can not only save you from the extra trouble of going to the service station and waiting for an hour or half till the oil is changed but it also helps you save the money you would pay unnecessarily to the service man at fuel station and buy him the accessories every time you go to get the oil changed. If the manual you were given with your car is lost, you may search for the appropriate oil type, weight and oil filter online. There are many tools available online which help you find it. There are two more very important tasks to be done before the actual oil change process. The first is spreading a polythene sheet under your car engine so that the floor may not be greasy by the spilling of oil during the process and the second is grabbing a chair or a table near your car engine to keep the tool kit consisting of a wrench set, a rubber mallet, a box-end wrench for the plug, jack stand, funnel, paper towel, rubber gloves and a pan to trickle old oil in so that they can be made readily available when needed. Now keep the car jack right in the front center of the car and jack it up. Always remember to support the jack with a stand so that it doesn’t fall on you while you work underneath. It is risky to work under a car supported only with a jack. Then lower it down to the level you are convenient at while working underneath the car easily. Make sure that your car is set in the parking mode. Once the car is lifted up, put your safety glasses and rubber gloves on as the oil coming out of the car can be very hot. As mentioned earlier you should let the car run for a few minutes if it is cold so that it can get warmer and the sludge trickles down easily.
