I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity I had to visit children’s country home. It was a great opportunity to learn more out about the facility that provides 24-hour skilled care to medically fragile and technology-dependent children. I loved how the home was able to provide the children with such a loving home and support their complex needs. I found my least favorite part of the clinical experience was reading and hearing some of the heart breaking background stories regarding the children’s disabilities. I really felt quite taking aback hearing the background stories regarding some of the children. I understand when a child has intense disabilities and complex needs, providing their care can be exhausting and overwhelming. In particular, the …show more content…
The nurse I observed throughout the clinical experience had such a positive attitude towards her nursing. She appeared to thoroughly enjoy her job despite it being an extremely emotionally exhausting one. Overall my experience within children’s country home was very emotional. I have worked with many adults that are medically fragile and require the same level of care as these children, but when it is a child, it really does heighten the emotional aspect to the care you provide. This clinical experience was my first nursing environment I been exposed to since immigrating to America. Since this was the case, I did not have any expectations and I went to the clinical with an open mind and ready to experience American nursing. However, on first impressions I was extremely let down. I have previously mentored nursing students and I find first impressions extremely important in order for a students learning experience to be valuable. There was a certain feeling on my arrival that nursing students were a little unwelcome. The clinical experience within the children’s home is not an environment everyone would enjoy, or feel comfortable within. I feel a warm welcome on arrival, a tour of the home and an introduction to the children would be extremely beneficial to future students learning
My overall response to my experience at the Boys Ranch Town is very positive. It is a faith-based program, which I enjoyed and thought was very positive and uplifting. The fact that their services are free and all that is required of the resident’s guardians is for them to provide health insurance was amazing. I felt that the people there were very accepting and wanted to teach me as much as they could in my short time there. The caseworker I was following was very encouraging in letting me do things on my own and answering questions along the way if I had
The Kaiser Child Care Centers were established during the World War II by the Kaiser company for their female workers and were operated 24 hours a day. The Kaiser Company built these facilities in the shipyards so that the working mothers wouldn’t have to worry about the safety of their children and would be motivated to work more. Not only did these centers provide care for the children, they also provided the children with medical attention, and hot meals. We currently have centers like these now. Most centers now a days take care of children day-to-day so their parents can go to work and sustain their families without having to worry about their safety and well-being. These centers left an enormous legacy and demonstration of quality child
Passage 1 Passage 1 is the first description, in the beginning, that readers get of Georgiana specifically, through Alymer’s eyes. It is also the first introduction to the themes of control and obsession that continue throughout the rest of the story. This passage establishes the dichotomy that forms between Georgiana’s beauty and Almer’s desire for complete and utter perfection. Alymer, to some extent, is set up to be a character that tries to play ‘God’ where, instead, he ends up being more akin to the ‘Devil’. Wherein, he destroys Georgiana in his quest to make her “perfect”.
Private Guilt vs. Public Guilt The Scarlet Letter, shows examples of both private and public guilt throughout the novel. The main character, Hester Prynne, is a great example of public guilt. Where as, Dimmesdale is used to represent private guilt. Dimmesdale has a hard time dealing with his guilt then, Hester had.
I was ecstatic to be able to be involved with this program. I volunteered to help with the program for 4 years and it was the best experiences I had with children. I did multiple things for the children: I was a chaperone for one of the groups, I made there lunches for them one year, and also made the activities for the children to enjoy.
Family House provides an affordable "home away from home" for patients and their families who are seeking medical treatment at Pittsburgh-area hospitals. To efficiently achieve this mission, Family House assigns NRHH members tasks weekly. Last week, members made cards for families that were leaving the facility and heading home and members hosted a thanksgiving dinner for Family House's families. When working with this system, members' real job is to interact with the families. Provided that members volunteer at Family House weekly, the goal is to assure families that as a group we will work with them and their children in any way that is explicitly stated by the agency to create a warm and trusting
In my time at the internship I have gained many experiences that I will always value. I have worked with a variety of patients, although all children. They ranged in a disabilities and syndromes. I have seen children with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, Down syndrome, Torticollis, premature infants, pediatric feeding disorders, and numerous others. Each child has been unique in their self as well as how occupational therapy aided them. Each treatment plan was different and I learned much for their variance.
I want to express my appreciation for your support in my education for almost 2 years now. I will keep you informed of any changes to my time as per school timetable concerning future clinical placements. Sometimes, I may need to come in the morning if my placement time is in the evening. I will get a medical note indicating the sick period.
The debate on whether the Elgin Marbles should stay in Britain or be returned to their original home in Greece has been going on for a few decades now. As a curator of a Turkish museum that is the home to many Greek art works, I believe that the art work in Britain should remain there for multiple reasons, the main one being that if the British decide to give the marbles back to the Greeks, would the Greeks decide that they want the art work that we have here in Turkey back?
In all honesty, as a young girl who had never been exposed to special needs or those different than me, I was very nervous and did not know what to expect. I was not looking forward to going. My mom convinced me to try it for a day, if not for myself, at least to give Mrs. Patti some helping hands. We drove down the winding country roads and finally turned left down the long asphalt driveway. I got out of the car and immediately was greeted by a camper named Jake. He came up to me and said excitedly, “Hi I’m Jake, what’s your name?” and gave me a big high five. In that moment I realized these kids were not so different from me after all. They have the desire to make friends and have relationships with their peers just as much as we
After seeing the smiles that seemed almost permanent that week, I realized how important it is to work with and help younger children. I also learned what it’s like knowing that you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. I’ve been a counselor at that same camp for two more years since that first summer, and it gets better every time. Even though it can be difficult and frustrating to work with children sometimes, the reward that you, as well as the children, receive is well worth the effort.
As a masters level intern at the Department of Children and Families, there are opportunities to assist clients as a professional social worker. During this time, I have been assigned the role of ongoing worker with the Blake family. We have begun to develop a relationship and I have taken an active role to ensure the children are properly cared for and the family has the necessary services that are available to them. This is the first time working with a family in this role and has been a learning experience.
The past weeks at my clinical were memorable and exciting, I was exposed to many learning opportunities, which I took advantage of. Also, I had to provide care to more patients than required per shift and each patient had their different ways of care. From week one I was nervous, shy and had a little difficulty developing a therapeutic relationship with my client. However, by the end of week one, I had so much confidence in providing care to my patients. I was placed in the complex continuing care which involved complex skills and complex patients. My unit had two sides, one side was rehab floor and the other side was complex floor; so I had the opportunity to work in both floors. My greatest growth were mastering the skills needed in providing care to the complex patients like suctioned patients with tracheostomy, monitored patient with continuous bladder irrigation, assessed, changed and care for patient’s ostomy independently, administered feedings and medication via G-tube, packed a deep wound, developed a therapeutic relationship with my patient, been able to achieve many skills required for semester four and providing emotional support for my client. By week three, the expectations required to care for my patients were more because it was the half of the pregrad, I strived to accomplish most of the skills listed in the self-assessment skills. I had my ups and downs with my patients which would have discouraged me about my profession but it did not, rather it
Today clinical was another learning experience. I worked with a traveled nurse named Manu, he has been a nurse for 6 years now. For a guy he is very OCD about the rooms being cleaned and organized and I liked that, because the nurse that gave us report left the room upside down and I had to reorganise the rooms. He emphasis how much he dislikes when the room is not kept and when the family members are visiting they may compare the environment their love once/family member is in to the type of care that’s being rendered when they are not present, which is a valid point.
When I started my journey with Galen, I was so excited about clinicals. I was excited about all the things I was going to learn and experience, all the people I was going to help, and being one step closer to my goal. When I got to my clinical site that first day, I was so nervous and anxious. Unfortunately, it wasn’t anything I thought it would be. I guess I thought that all the patients would be so sweet and kind. I was ready to hear there stories and learn from them. When I actually got to interact with the patients, I guess you could say I was shocked. More than 85% of the patients aren’t coherent and can not eat by themselves. If I had the opportunity to change how the nurses and CNA’s interact with the patients. After every meal, the
