A recent experience I had in my life from the initiation through the completion of the learning is when I transferred from Chamberlain College of Nursing to Northeastern Illinois University to major in Human Resource Development. From looking at Kolb’s learning cycle I have gone through concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. My concrete experience happened while I was attending Chamberlain College of Nursing for two and a half years. In nursing school in order to pass nursing classes’ students are required to earn 76% or better on every exam. I was already doing everything I could possibly do at that semester such as going to professors for help, recording lectors/ hearing it at home, getting help from tutors every day, and spending extra time each day to study. I was extremely upset because nothing was working for me. After putting so much time and effort I still wasn’t able to get where I need to be, that really put me down. From this experience I went through Kolb’s abstract conceptualization (concluding/learning from the experience). After thinking back to the constant experience of failure I faced I have come to a conclusion that nursing wasn’t meant for me so I didn’t end up doing the letter to go back to nursing school. Instead I was thinking what my next step should be. I know I always wanted to stay in the medical field, but I wanted to stay away from patient care. I know I enjoyed people interaction and health care atmosphere. Keeping that in mind, one day I was searching online to see if there was something out there I could possibly do.
