Erik Erikson, a famous American-German psychologist, once said “Life doesn't make any sense without interdependence. We need each other and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.” However, what happens if that interdependence is constantly negatively affecting one's life? One’s surrounding has an enormous effect on both the mental and physical health of their being. Two main factors of an individual having negative effects on their life can come from experiencing discrimination and prejudice from society . According to the Oxford Dictionary, discrimination is “the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.On the other hand prejudice is “ the unjustified or incorrect attitude (usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual's participation of a social group.” But how can discrimination and prejudice directly affect one's life? It has an enormous effect on one's job, lifestyle and education which can alter an individual's life completely.

Facing racism and discrimination can have multiple effects on an individual’s professional life. For instance a person’s race or ethnic background can determine whether or not they get hired for a certain job.
