There are many different world views when it comes to placing children in the foster care system. One world view comes from Australia; another comes from Canada. Both countries give a different insight into how foster care is managed in other parts of the world. Australia views the foster care system as a last resort. The Australian foster care system first tries everything in their power to allow parents to keep their children before taking children away. This country uses direct family support services to allow parents to learn to parent in the right way. When certain referrals concern child maltreatment, exceptions are made to ensure child safety.
