I am currently in the process of moving from the anticipation stage and toward the exploration stage of my internship. During this time, I am focused on developing my relationship with my placement site and growing as an individual within the human service profession. After a few weeks with the Mercy Centre, I am beginning to build a routine with community based day supports program. This routine does changes daily to a certain degree since the human service field is based on people and people are ever changing. In response to these changes, I work at adjust, adapt to the environment and the clients. I am able to remain emotionally and rationally engaged with the Mercy Centre, through the challenges that continue to present itself during this …show more content…
At this point, I believe that the challenges I have faced, am facing and will face are the right appropriate range. The initial challenge with my internship placement was finding an actual site, which then formed into the challenge of finding my role within the Mercy Centre. Once I began working, I had to create a relationship with the clients and the staff. In an effort to create this relationship, I had to establish the fact that I was not a client but also not a staff member. This meant that I was there to assist them, work with them to reach their goals and be part of their work organization. It also meant that I am not a staff member, so I cannot be alone with the clients. This became an issue, as I was not able to join the groups who worked in the community. Through working with Peg, the director of the Mercy Centre and Jodie, the head of community based day supports program, we have come to a resolution for this issue. I am able to attend this work sites, as long as I drive to the location in my own car and I do not travel with the clients. There are been other challenges along the way, but have had a corresponding solution. This includes dealing with emotional outbursts, which typically consists of clients not getting their way and negatively reacting to

As a human service worker some basic skill that I would assist a client would be helping them to be more self-sufficient through learning new skills. I would also recommend them to different resource that would assist them as they work to overcome setbacks in life. I would work closely with client to evaluate their supportive systems ensuring they are in line with their everyday needs. A good plan of action would be put in place after the client have been evaluated according to his or her disorder for helping with assistance or coordinating certain services that are put in place for a client needs. I would also provide emotional support to foster a good working relationship in order for my client to feel comfortable when discussing their problems
Working in the field of human services is a unique, yet rewarding career. Human services workers engage with diverse populations and carry different titles to include counselors, case managers, milieu therapists, social workers, etc. Regardless of what title a human service worker may hold, communication between a client and professional is vital. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a client from a particular background and address his presenting issues. It will review how I would interview my client to include specific communication techniques, ways I would establish a working relationship, discuss possible boundary issues, and recommendations or referrals to certain groups for this client.
On wednesday at my internship was a very important day, because I got to go into the field and instead of go to the agency with went out into the field. That day I went to a place with some body of the agency and I saw the process of how they recruit the young participant to join the program. Which I think it's a good way to reach out to this participants, because as young participant they most of the time won't be interested until somebody reach them to help the participants.is a speciall internship becaouse is very important this is a good story to tell.It was really interesting to see the agancy from another perspective. Chapter 11 on the book the human services internship, it explained how as a professional and as a person that is learning,
the professions and the tasks and responsibilities in the veterinary field are not as easy as they sound. Being a veterinary has its responsibilities and they have to be followed by everyone in the clinic or workplace to make things simple and keep it a good organized place to work . It is way more difficult and not as simple, everyone just thinks that being a vet is just about taking care of animals and that's it, but it's really more than that. Also being a veterinary technician is similar to a veterinarian but they have different duties. One of the duties of being a tech is evaluat animals assist veterinarian, collect samples and administer medication, clean and wrap wounds and many more duties.
The year is 2015 and I can’t imagine not having the freedom I do today. Marriage equality is a very recent topic in history. It wasn’t very long ago that laws prohibited the marriage of same-sex couples. I have decided to investigate the history of marriage equality and the organizations that helped make the dream come true. In order to fully understand the changes that occurred, and to comprehend the level of discrimination that was felt in the homosexual culture, one must first understand the history of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community. The harsh history of the LGBTQ community, and discrimination that was imposed on them and the organizations that strived to advocate for the LGBTQ community on a local, regional and national level is what eventually lead to the Supreme Court ruling on June 26th, 2015, stating that states cannot ban same-sex marriage.
I want to pursue a career in Human Services because this is where my calling is. When graduation got closer and closer teachers, staff, and students asked “Where are you going from here? What is the overall goal?” I told them that I was going to Cazenovia College to study Human Services and that my overall goal was to become a medical Social Worker in a hospital and be placed on cases with children. Once I told them this they all said I was going in the right direction and that I would be perfect for the job. I believe I can do this job and be successful because my childhood life and financial situation, being assaulted, and all the community service I have completed and awards I have received
The population, which receives the majority of clinical gestalt of discrimination, is the elderly. With the increased number of older adults in the population, more and more clinical psychologists are including this group are among their clients (Lacks, July 1982) It can become easy sometimes to look at a person and make assumptions for the person that you are interviewing. For an example like the elderly woman who was sixty-six years old. When reading the first section a person may have thought to themselves they have been married for awhile. On the other hand, when reading the second exercise it became clear that they were only married for

Since the moment we were born, our elders told us that we were all special in our own ways but the education system argues against that statement. When students are tested in the same way, some students out shine others due to the way they learn, while others are left feeling less intelligent. The education system is ruining the confidence in many of our children today, making some feel less important than others. This aspect is one of the many flaws in the system today. We as a nation should make an effort to make the children of the future feel important rather than destroying their self-esteem. We should not make them feel like they cannot accomplish their dreams due to a disability they could not escape. They are the future of this country, the ones to live on and continue to make this country great. Why should students have to study harder than others in order to pass the classes required to progress? This country is all about equal rights
In my practice, it is possible that my clients may experience any of these types and I may need to deal with their personal emotions that arise as a result.

The journey towards the attainment of the Bachelor of the social work degree has been an enlightening and educational experience, as the individual is exposed to the realities of many social and political issues in the society. As a student, I ventured into the degree, with minimal insight as to how the degree can influence and shape the way I perceive the social world, and the way I relate these matters to myself. However, throughout my endeavour, which encompasses years of theoretical studies, and two intensive placements at two drastically different organisations, I believe I have accumulated the bare minimal knowledge to possess a solid foundation about the unfairness and inequality that people in disadvantaged conditions face. Social workers are predominantly found in welfare organisations which Howe (as cited in Limber, 2015) suggested largely influences the practice, direction and values of the social worker, and impacts on their ability to act autonomously (Lymbery, 2015). During my placements, there was a dominant theme that frequently stood out and enticed my attention. This was the accepted practice of focusing on the individual’s problem, as opposed to the social problems that existed and the lack of acknowledgement about the social restrictions of the human agency that limited self-determination. The realization that organisations were managed this way was important in ensuring that I made a proactive effort to understand and untangle the reasons behind such
The age old question of what it means to be human can be answered through many viewpoints. There are several specie specific qualities that differentiate humans from any other creature, but with that being said, humans are often compared and contrasted with animals and machines. Some of these specific qualities are the ability to interpret, free will, and the use of language, but what does it really mean to be human?
