Abstract
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the most common form of cancer in the United States is melanoma skin cancer (2014). It is crucial that melanoma needs to be detected at an early stage to improve survival rates. There are current techniques such as a dermatoscopy that can help the physician to make a diagnosis, but it remains difficult and the need of new techniques or tools is required to improve the physician’s diagnostic abilities. According to cancer statistics, the incidence of melanoma has doubles and been increasing steadily in recent decades (2011).

MelaFind optical scanner is an hand-held device that is the size of a blow dryer that has an image probe that contains 10 multi spectral images. After scanning over a suspicious skin mole the device evaluates multispectral images into 10 spectral bands, from blue to infared. Then these images are processed with a software 10 digital images in less than one minute. This displays 3D images of moles and sees 2.5 mm below surface of the skin. Also, this provides record to patients so they are able to track any changes in their mole. This device is used during a skin exam or mole check that dermatologist is not too sure of and also helps how irregular the growth pattern of the mole under the skin. Also, can determine if the level of irregular growth pattern is a low or high disorganization. Low disorganization meaning that there is a low level of irregular growth pattern but dermatologist may still want to remove it due to other additional information and a high disorganization is that there is a high level of irregular growth but it does not mean the mole is melanoma. MelaFind optical scanner is not used to make diagnosis only to provide additional information to
Unlike other cancers which we can develop, melanoma can often be detected on the skin which allows doctors to treat it at its early stages resulting in less complications and lower death rates to patients, again if left undetected at its early stages this can easily spread to distant areas and distant organs. Once melanoma has spread to other areas of the body which is classified as stage IV it is diagnosed as
The largest organ of the human body is your skin. It is your body’s first line of defense against infections, injuries, heat, and sunlight. It also helps in controlling the temperature of your body and getting rid of the excess water and salt by sweating it out. Skin cancer is also known as cancer of the sun. Excessive amounts of ultra violet lights affect your skin in negative ways, possibly leading to Melanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer there is and can often times be fatal (McClay).
The submitted records have been reviewed. The member is an adult female with a birth date of 07/01/1987. She has a diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma. Her treating provider, Semyon Zarkhin, MD recommended DecisionDX Melanoma testing, which was performed on 11/23/2015.

Acral Lentiginous Melanoma or ALM is a rare subtype of melanoma that occurs more often in people of color. It accounts for 2 to 3 percent of the all of the world’s cases of melanoma (Bradford). Dr. R. J. Reed in 1976 was the first to describe it as the appearance of dark lesions on the hands and feet. Radial or lentiginous was the main phase of its growth that lasts several years then it changes into a vertical or dermal invasive stage (Bradford). Several universities have released results on tests on ALM but since it is rare it was difficult for the research groups to get solid information because of small sample sizes. Nonetheless, studies by scientists such as Dr. R. J. Reed we able to determine that the survival rate for three years with the melanoma was on average at 11% (Bradford).
Although there are several types of skin cancer, the most aggressive form is melanoma. This cancer of the skin involves mass replication of the pigment producing melanocyte cells, which are located in the epidermis, below the basal layer. There are several factors involved with the onset of melanoma including, exposure to ultraviolet rays, genetic predisposition, numerous nevi (moles), immunosuppression, and environmental exposure to carcinogens.
There are three main types of skin cancer. These are malignant melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. While melanoma is the most life-threatening of the three, it is also the most
The care of patients who have cutaneous melanoma (CM) has undergone a dramatic shift during the past 5 decades. Excision of pre-metastatic; CM has been the overriding goal. because once distant metastases have occurred. prognosis is dismal. Skin awareness and self-examination by patients. screening examinations of the skin, nails, and mucous membranes by physicians, and careful long-term Surveillance of patients determined in be al high risk for CM 'based on identifiable historic and phenotypic traits are having an immediate positive impact on CM. related mortality and CM-related case. fatality rate.
Melanoma is a rare and serious. It begins in the skin and can spread to other organs in the body.
Skin cancer is a term used to describe cancer in skin tisssues. The skin is made of several layers. Skin cancer is classified according to the layer it develops in. Skin cancer is classified according to the layer it develops in. The epidermes is the skin’s outer layer and is made up squamous cells, basal cells and melanocytes
According to (American Cancer Society: Cancer Facts & Figures 2013), Skin Cancer has remained as the most common type of cancer in the United States over the years. For instance the report estimate that in 2013 over 2 million people in the United States were likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer while another estimate of one million people would be diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer (American Cancer Society: Cancer Facts & Figures 2013). This therefore means that Melanoma skin cancer is the most common type of skin cancer in the United States. The American Cancer Society also suggests that a lot of money estimated to be around a minimum of $8.4 billion is spent annually in the treatment of skin cancer related illnesses which is a huge amount of money (American Cancer Society: Cancer Facts & Figures

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common cancer, accounting for about half of all cancers in the United States. More than 3 million cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States alone this year (Skin Cancer Foundation). Basal-cell carcinomas constitute approximately 90 percent of all non-melanoma skin cancers, making it the most common cancer in humans. Basal-cell carcinomas or BCCs are abnormal, uncontrolled growths or lesions that arise in the skin’s basal cells, which line the deepest layer of the epidermis. This type of cancer most often occurs in skin that is frequently exposed to sunlight or other ultraviolet radiation such as the face, ears, neck and limbs (Rubin et al.). As ultraviolet rays
