Decent Essays
Introduction: The purpose of the “Motion of a Car Lab” is to identify the relationship between speed, how fast an object is moving, and position, the location of an object at a specific time. For this lab, the objects used were two cars, one blue, and one red. Both cars moved at a constant speed. Before doing the experiment, hypothesize the relationship between position and speed. A hypothesis for this lab could be, if both variables: time and position, are increasing or decreasing, then the relationship between time and position is direct. The person making the marks should mark the position of the front of the car. Stop the car after having marked 10 positions. Place the blue car on the 10th mark and face the car so it will run the opposite direction. That will be the starting point of trial 2. Repeat steps 3 and 4. After stopping the blue car, measure the distance of all the marks from both trials and record your data on the data tables. Put the red car on the table and aim it so it will run the length of the table. Mark the starting point of the car with chalk. Turn on the red car. After starting the red car, mark the position, in front of the car for every second. Stop the car after having 10 positions marked. Place the red car on the 10th mark of the 1st trial. The car should be facing the opposite direction than where it was facing for the first trial. Repeat steps 9 and 10. After having marked the 10th position of the red car for trial 2, measure the distance of all the marks from both trials. . Record the data on your data tables.
