The business environment today is a highly competitive place. To fend off such heightened competition and foster organizational success, it is vital that business organizations ensure that they have competent leadership and management functions. One way through which leadership and management skills and knowledge can be reinforced is through education. The decision to undertake a Masters in Management (MSM) program was influenced by personal ambition to take advantage of future leadership and management opportunities. My journey through this course, and the MSM program in general,

The course allowed me to practice and implement classroom acquired skills and knowledge to real life practical situations through the examination of the various factors that limit the implementation of well-defined employee training and development programs and the exploration of probable solutions to the problem. Through this activity, I gained insights into the importance of teamwork and employee training and development to organizational performances. Effective research skills are an important quality for leaders and managers since organizations are constantly being faced with challenges and problems that need urgent resolution. Knowing how to collect relevant information related to particular problems and apply critical thinking to come up with appropriate skills will help in the effective resolution of such problems thereby promoting organizational success.
Career Path Situation There are many career paths where leadership and management, and research skills are integral to solving diverse organizational problems and challenges. An example of such a career path situation is pursuing a managerial position within and international business. As the case with globalization, every organization aims to leverage the opportunities available in global
A global manager is associated with success as an international executive. Dimensions included in this are: general intelligence, business knowledge, interpersonal skills, commitment, courage, cross-cultural competencies, and the ability to learn from experience. My potential for success as a global manager would be on the cusp of being relatively high. In today’s global economy, being a manager often means being a global manager. But, unfortunately, not all managers are able to transfer their skills smoothly from domestic environments to global ones. I believe that I have the ability to accomplish this on a consistent basis.
Training and Development is imperative to the organization’s progress. Training helps addressing employee weaknesses and builds a reliable and skilled workforce. This will improve the employees’ performance and boost their self confidence, and innovation. By acquiring the needed knowledge and skills, employees can perform more efficiently and increase the overall productivity of the organization.
Knowledgeable and well trained employees are needed in every organization. It is important employees are able to perform all the tasks needed in order to reach the organizations needs and achieve the set goals. As times change, employees may stay behind in skills or may even lack training when it comes to new systems, technology or other procedures that the company may need in order to better performance. That is when the importance of training is more evident. An organization has a large responsibility for their success which is why training, development, and career development is
The assignment for this week focuses on the team’s understanding of the goals and objectives of training program development and delivery. Team C summarizes the following highlights of this week’s discussions: determining organizational development theories and applications; differentiating between mentoring and executive coaching; identifying the major components of employee training; and comparing career development strategies.
When the organization invests in training and development to improve the knowledge and skills of its employees, the investment is expected to yield productive and effective employees. The programs could be focused on individual performance or team performance depending on the development need identified by a training needs analysis which helps in the creation and implementation of training and management development programs. In the view of Grobler, Warnich, Carrel, Elbert and Hatfield (2004:345), training needs have to be determined first.
Training is an important facet of developing and managing human resources at any organization. Training should improve not only organizational efficiency and employee productivity but it must also improve employee skills and make employees feel valued. At Clapton Commercial Construction (“CCC”) Company’s Arizona location, it is important for the company to hire and retain good employees. To that end training and development should be essential and consistently provided to employees at all levels of the organization. Training program should be designed so that it is tailored to the particular function the employees perform in the company, and also so that the company as a whole works as a
The four MSMS ideals: creativity, service, scholarship, and community will play a vital role in my educational and occupational future. Knowing the importance of these ideals will be beneficial. Individually, each ideal has a different significance, but collectively, understanding them will provide me with an invaluable advantage. My occupational aspiration is to become a pediatric oncologist.
Today, there is a huge competition in every business around the globe. To achieve my dream and goal, I need to develop myself and gain knowledge in the management sector; therefore, I have opted to pursue Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management Packaged course at TAFE SA, Adelaide City Campus, where I will be able to learn skills required to lead the team and manage business effectively with international standards. Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management Packaged course is not available in my home country and I am particularly interested in this course as it covers core units such as developing and implementing business plan, lead and manage organisational change, manage finances, and provide leadership across the
Within todays ever-changing working society, training and development is a key part within any organisation. Employees are the main capital within organisations which suggests
Most organizations do not follow-up on the benefits of training as regards staff performance. As a result of this they don’t take training and development as an important factor in organizational growth and survival. Most manages do not know how to assess the return on investment in training, nor are they equipped with the necessary management tools to monitor the decision making process of such investment. It has been discovered that training and development budget is the first cut when the organization is faced with difficulties because most of them are of the opinion that investment in the area of training and development is not linked to the bottom line of the business. Globalization and rapid technological development has changed the conditions for companies and increased competition in the world markets. The quality of a company’s human resources is the key driver for sustained top-level performance. It has become crucial to continually invest in human resource development in order to guarantee success in the global market. As earlier said, managers engage in minimal training thereby not giving quality training to their employees, this in turn affects the overall outcome of the training and the performance of the staff. Most organizations that have a competitive image see more reasons to train their workers than those who are on the lower rung of the ladder of recognition, but training and development is still needed to create a niche. In the light of the above,
As a first time manager my short term goal (next 2-3 years) is to establish myself in my current role and develop my management skills. Drucker (2005) discusses the importance of working to my strengths, having good self-awareness and an understanding how I perform. As part of my career goal I would like to complete the relevant tertiary education (MBA) to equip me with the tools to enable my success.
Training and development has become increasingly essential to the success of modern organisations, yet some still look at training as a problem or as something that is not taken seriously. Training and development is one key approach used by organisations to improve and maintain the capabilities of its workforce. However, many experts distinguish between training and development, being that training tends to be more closely focused and adapted towards short-term performance concerns, while development tends to be adapted more towards expanding an individual’s skills for future responsibilities (Snell and Bohlander 2007). The main reason that organisations train their employees is to bring their knowledge, skills and abilities up to the
Possessing management skills is being recognized as a very important quality by the youth of today. They know that it is recommended to know how to deal with people, even if they are working in domains or wings other than management. With the aim of attaining these crucial skills, I enrolled in this course, which proved to be a very beneficial step for my career. In the last six weeks, I have grown into a more professional person than I was before. I gained better understanding of how to work in a team, while improvising myself on the individual front, in parallel.
Management in its basic technical form is tangible and can be developed. Budgeting, resource allocation and human resource management courses are widespread. Interestingly Bennis (2009) found throughout his study that United States organisations were under-led and over-managed. He placed fault with the management schools, suggesting they trained candidates technically but not as leaders. Hence, the difficulty lies in developing the leadership skills necessary throughout organisations.
We cannot leave our discussion of the value of studying management without looking at the rewards and challenges of being a manager. What does it mean to be a manager? Being a manager in today\ 's dynamic work place provides many challenge.
