Writing any sort of paper takes thought, time, and work. My writing process is like going on a strenuous hike. When going on a strenuous hike one must plan ahead and research where they are going. In writing one must do research and get all the knowledge that they can on the subject. Once the hike is all planned out and ready to go it is time to start on the hike, you aren’t necessarily focused on details at the time because you haven't made it to your final destination yet.. This is like starting on the rough draft, writing down and getting all your ideas down without much regard to grammar but just trying to get all your thoughts onto the paper. Then after you have been walking for a while you probably will need a break to hydrate and regain energy for the rest of the hike. Often times when writing papers you take breaks between drafts and even in the middle because writing can become monotonous. However, after taking a break you have probably …show more content…
I enjoy research and obtaining new knowledge of whatever I am studying. The hardest part for me is not taking that break between drafts. Getting to the destination and seeing something that makes all that hard work worth while is great but sometimes it is hard to push yourself to get to that point. Sometimes it might even just be that I feel lost and don’t know where to go next with my thoughts and ideas as far as putting them into words on my paper.
With my different writing experiences I have learned that in order to be a better writer I am going to have to limit the time in between drafts. I need to keep on writing while my ideas and thoughts are fresh in my head. In order to be more successful I may also have to spend more time with people who know how to write much more proficiently than me. Meaning I am going to have to utuilize the writing lab in order to imprve my writing and get where I want an dhsould be as a
When looking back five weeks ago, I struggled with confidence in my writing. I had much trouble expressing my thoughts on paper. Through time, I feel that I am stronger in my writing abilities and my writing skills have improved greatly. So far, I have learned to be more confident and I no longer struggle with getting started. There have been many instances where I have thought long and hard about submitting a document fearing that it was not good enough. Now, I realize that preparation is the key to great writing. When writing, many times I would write one section of the paper and immediately would start to revise before completely finishing. I soon realized that this method is a very long process and it’s
When writing a paper it can be very difficult unless you break it up into sections. When I had to write my first paper I felt like a man on a desert island all alone without a clue on how to do anything. But with the help of a few teachers they taught me how to survive on the island of writing papers. What the teachers taught me was that just like everything in life it needs to be taken in steps. The steps they taught me still apply to the papers I write to this day.
College level writing, is the first thing taught when starting a college-level class. meaning the dynamic of how a student was taught to write has been changed and it’s now held to much higher standers. When beginning college, the student is taught the writing process, the writing process is prewriting, outlining ideas, writing a rough draft, revising, and editing. The writing process is what helps the student start the essay, and get to the finishing product. When using the writing process, it also teaches the students good time management skills. Because with each step-in the writing process, a student must make take time for each task. A student to take time to come up with ideas, start prewriting, make an outline, make time to draft, revise, and then edit the essay. Therefor, not only does the writing process teach students how to write in a professional manner, but
Writers get what is called “writers block” when they are unable to produce new work. Me, I get what is called “mental block”, which is my inability to keep my train of thought. Writers block and mental blocks are similar in a sense they both impact your ability to put together your thoughts. Normally this causes me to write a wall of words, in result not allowing me to express or get my main idea across clearly. Spawning uncertainty, disorientation, and unnerve, that prevent me from producing my own work. Trying to remember or trying to figure out how certain things in my essay should go is a constant struggles that came about from my block in thoughts. Leaving me gazing at a blank paper trying to figure out how or what to put on
As with any hobby, sport or career, the more time spent learning the material, the better understanding we will have and the more creative the individual will become. In my personal experience, I have found that the time spent reviewing the information and focusing on the weakest areas will ensure that the level understanding is present. However, this has been a major task to learn since writing has never been one of my strong points. Although, I have realized since continuing my education that I really enjoy writing and look forward to each assignment. In writing personally or professionally, we have the ability to give life to our words; this brings inspiration and motivation for the next writing
I completely agree Kaelen, writing is an essential part of our lives and should be taken serious. I will definitely keep that in mind to take a break between my writing process so I don’t get the case of writer’s block. Our writing process is actually very similar, for the reason that we both equally enjoy doing research to become familiar with the topic we’re writing about. If by any chance, you run low on time or want to go the extra mile and triple check your work, check out this website called Paper Rater. It’s great and usually does the trick.
Through all my experience with writing, I found that I’m pretty decent in research and argumentative type of essays. I’m also good with lab reports. When I have the data and facts I find it easier to put together a paper than with writing personal and analytical papers. With personal and analytical type of essays, I tend to overthink and also end up getting writer’s block. Because of this I find it a little difficult to collect my ideas and turn it into a well structure paper that clearly
When I think about my past experiences of writing, automatically what comes to my mind is how it has improved over the years. I think about high school when I used to get assigned a four-page paper and thought it was the end of the world. Now, the length doesn’t seem to bother me. Also, in my opinion, writing can be a tedious or pleasurable experience depending on the topic. I think that when writing about an interesting topic, writing can be a breeze. It can take me to another place like a good book does, forgetting all that is going on around me. However, when writing about a topic that is not so interesting it can be a tedious task that takes forever. In addition to having a topic that is interesting I think it is also important to have
Your time, place, and tools are very essential when it comes to writing. In order for my paper to be a 100% perfect, I have to be in a certain environment. For instance, being in my room with no distractions helps increase my thinking skills. My room is peaceful and quiet, which allows me to focus on completing my assignments. Libraries and computer labs are not really my favorite places of writing because I do not feel as comfortable. Also, sometimes the temperatures are not warmer than what I am use to and can control, so I can not concentrate. In addition, I would prefer not to write in the mornings because I would not be as alert as I would be if I wrote an essay in the evening. Furthermore, I have more time to my self at night. Daylight
A Challenge the writing process has been for me, I would write ideas I had during my pre writing and that was all, but I did not build on my idea. I went from an idea to a draft and that was not the proper way to go about with my writing process. With innumerable Resources available it has helped me in my writing more than I thought it would because if I needed an example of what to do, I had text and video resources for that, video resources helped me to understand even more how to write correctly on my essays, writing tools and many more great resources. Using time management for my writing was very useful as well my research, pre-writing and drafting stage should have took up most of the time, therefore after editing and revision then would be a breeze. Everyone has their own way of writing and not everyone
Perhaps because I stuck with my use of drafts, my dreadful writer's block did not make a single appearance throughout this whole semester. Instead, drafts have helped me confront my perfectionism in an unexpected way. Throughout high school, my biggest challenge about writing any piece was starting it. I understood that the first draft was not meant to be perfect, but the idea of having anything with my name written on it that was terrible did not settle well with me. I care so much about how other people perceive me that I couldn’t turn something in that was not to my standards. But realizing that the first draft did not have to be coherent, or seen by others helped me. For all my papers in this class, my writing process for my first draft was writing a thorough and solid outline, and word vomiting for each paragraph of my outline, getting the general ideas that I wanted to convey on paper. That was all there was to it for my first draft. Later, I would slowly make sense of my arguments and evidence, fine tuning the words till they made sense and sounded good. Not only did diving into writing help me confront my fears, but the process also triggered the task-oriented part of my brain that urged me to keep writing until I finished the
Life is an open book, which everyone motivates to read to the end with an expectation of positive outcome. However, life is also full of challenges for everyone. One has to overcome one’s own obstacles, so he/she could reach to successful. As a student in college, writing skills are really important; it helps to provide a solid foundation for one before climbing up to higher level. During the first year of college, I begin to see the importance of writing skills, I try to improve my writing skills through practice drafting, revising, and editing.
When it comes to writing I tend to procrastinate because I'm much more of a math person. This being said, I personally like to approach my essays and writing in a strategical type of manner because if I don't then much work won't get done. First, I choose my topic, if there are some provided. Second, I research/collect information and gathered all the creditable sources I came across. Third, I narrow my research findings, eliminating the weakest, and decided how I'm going to format my essay. Fourth, I begin writing, throwing out ideas, find myself being mocked by the constant blinking of the cursor, and delete much of what I initially wrote until I'm fully satisfied with my writing.
A writing assignment used to mean an easy five-paragraph essay. It was an essay that students mastered and could complete in an hour. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and we are now assigned papers with a requirement of at least five pages. Throughout the past week, I have asked several classmates about their assignments, specifically, about their writing process. From there, I noticed that several students did one thing similar…they all gave up after just an hour or so. While, I am no stranger to procrastination, I never thought this would be a common part of the writing process for college students. After carefully examining the responses I understood that while “taking a break”, students thought: new ideas would come to them, they would get more time to research, and maybe the requirements would change.
Before starting to write this paper or any paper for that matter. I started to think about what I do before I start writing a paper and how I continue to write that paper. I used the chart that was given to us in class to help map my ideas better, this is what I came up with. The general steps I take are listening to the instructions given, setting up the format for my paper, taking a few days to think (unconsciously) about what my paper should include, opening up my laptop and taking a few hours to just type my heart out, I leave my paper for a day or so and I come back and write the new ideas that I have floating down, I then start to revise. These steps do repeat themselves during certain times in my process. Normally I do not use a sheet to write down my thoughts and steps they just happen but for this paper I took a different approach. The steps I take are always the same and the reasons why I explore down below.
