     Going back forty-five years is not an easy task to complete because I can’t remember some of the finer details of my childhood. I know I was born on a hot August afternoon in Birth Year at Place Of Birth in City ands State. My mother was just twenty-two at the time and was already the mother of two, I was her third child. My father was twenty-one and already a workaholic, I know because my mother would constantly remind me not to be like that. My mother and father were good parents and they tried to give us the best upbringing they could. My father was the kind of person that believed he should provide and protect his family, and he did a very good job of doing that.

Maturity is a state that everybody tries to reach during their lives. Children spend their infancy, and sometimes adolescence, growing up and learning how to behave in the adults and work world. Schools teach them dissimilarities between these two different worlds. There isn’t a precise age in which kids become mature, it depends on the experiences they had, their society, their family and other causes. In the movie and novel The Giver, the community has a rite of passage where children, during the annual ceremony, become more mature and assume more responsibilities until they get into adulthood.

I believe maturity is not dependent on a person’s age because humans are affected by different situations, are different genders and are raised differently.

Maturity is commonly used word, but when asked what the word means many people simply shrug their shoulders. Maturity isn’t a word that has a clear definition. Being based primarily on one’s connotation, it doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. Personally I picked this word up through context. However, upon doing a careful study of where this word originates and other’s connotation’s, I feel I’ve achieved a relatively good understanding. Webster claims the word to mean “based on slow careful consideration,” but I feel there is much more to this word than that.

I do not believe that age has anything to do with maturity. I believe that the experiences someone has makes them mature;in addition, I also believe that what a person has been through has a lot to do with it.

Evolving towards adulthood is certainly difficult at times. It is remarkably complex due to the fact that adolescents are taught so many different lessons simultaneously, causing it to be too overwhelming when trying to make the right decisions. It makes this process even more complicated knowing there are many different views on what is right and wrong. Two great examples of this confusing, but worthy, journey reside in the lives of the protagonists of two classic novels. The first being Pip in Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, a novel in which a young boy describes his life as he's developing. And the second is Scout in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, a novel that’s told from a young girl’s perspective as her father tries to prove a man innocent after being unjustly accused of rape. Both authors do a splendid job showing the process of the characters’ maturity from when they were children, to when they are adults. The two characters face a few similar situations, while at the same time learning a great deal throughout the novels. They do this until they finally reach the final stage of maturity.

There are many factors that constitute being an adult. An adult is much more than turning the age of 18. The definition in the dictionary states an adult means being completely grown: fully developed and mature. I think there is much more that defines an adult. In the United States an adult is considered to be someone who takes responsibility of themselves and their actions. An adult has stability in their life and is able to take care of themselves physically, mentally, financially and emotionally. In other countries and cultures there definition of an adult differs.

Becoming a mature person is not something that happens over night, rather it is something that comes with age and experience. It is typical for a person to be more carefree in their youth which often gets them in trouble. However, because of their young age, they are rarely held responsible for their misdeeds. Although the term mature is subjective, two big indications of your maturity are being able to set your priorities and also handling situations in a responsible way. Well, looking in that perspective how is emotional maturity different from physical maturity? Emotional maturity could be the “full growth and development” of a person’s mind and conscience. Emotions are unstable, volatile and hard to comprehend. With time at a still, there can’t be any growth, no advancement, and no progress. Another build that comes with the passage of time is experience. We as humans experience a whole lot of things: Affection, success, detestation, calamity. So, in other words we could also say that we develop with experience. Regardless of this, another notion on the matter is that experience can trigger detrimental changes on our attitudes that can obstruct our road to maturity.
