Poverty in Central and South America has been getting worse over the years for many reasons. Poverty in these areas have always had a problem and barely get help. There are many ways the government can help end poverty or at least get the numbers down. Some countries have taken measures to help end poverty. Poverty levels are extremely high in Central and South America due to very many reasons. There are many reasons why poverty is very high in Central America. In Rural areas of Central America 2/3 of the people that live there are at or below the poverty line (Marrone, 2016). According to a study in 2002, 45% of people in rural areas were poor and the other half was extremely poor (IFAD, 2009). The money that the poor make, they only get 3% of their income, and the money that the wealthy of the poor make get 60% of their income (Marrone, 2016). Countries have not done very much to help poverty and one of the worst countries dealing with poverty is Honduras as 75% of their population live in poverty (Marrone, 2016). Poverty levels in South America are also very high. Woman in rural areas in South America are make up a big amount of the poorest of the poor (IFAD, 2009). Companies have had unfavorable conditions and high commodity prices so they can pay their workers more and it has helped a little bit (Levy, 2016). Overall there has just been growth in some countries to try and help the cause so that less and less people are not in poverty (Levy, 2016). The countries are trying to create an abundant supply of commodity exports to try and send more exports to receive more money (Gao, 2015).
