Race Horse Abuse Race horses are animals and they deserve to have rights, not to be abused for human entertainment. Race horse abuse is severely cruel and harmful in so many ways. These horses should not have to suffer abuse mainly for people’s amusement or monetary gain. Thankfully there are laws that are trying to be passed and adoption groups to help end this unnecessary abuse. With the equipment the rider and trainer use, drugs they administer, health problems, and abandonment; race horses are abused daily, but there are ways to help these poor souls. Training equipment in some aspects are so outrageous and awful. Bits, spurs, jiggers, and whips are just a few main objects used that are harmful. “Bits are used to control the horse by pressure followed by a release.” Most riders are taught to put all their weight on the horse’s mouth causing continuous pressure and extreme pain throughout the training …show more content…

Most drugs are bad and harmful to the horses, but there are some that can help if used properly. But in most cases when it comes down to winning money the owners abuse the use of these drugs and end up causing harm to the horse. Impairment to a horse obviously causes health problems, those health problems make the owners not want to put the time and money into the horse, so they abandon them. When they are abandoned its hard to tell what could happen to them. They could find a great new home, continue to be abused in a new home, or be sent to a slaughter house to become glue or food. But with the help of programs such as the HISA and ASPCA, they can and will be helped and saved from abuse.
