The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism went down the same road. They both named some names of people who were not even apart of the communist party, nor were they witches. Both events did not have proof of other people being apart of these groups either.After awhile people started resisting and stopped the trials. The fact that both events named off random people shows that the events went off the same idea and started the same way. During the Witch Trials two little girls named Abigail and Betty started having weird fits. When a doctor blamed the supernatural, Reverend Parris came in the investigation the girls. After a while of Parris talking to the girls they started to list off names. The names the two listed off were “Sarah Good, Goody Osburn, Bridget Bishop, George Jacobs, Goody Howe, Martha Bellows, Goody Sibber, Alice Barrow, Goody Hawkins, Goody Bibber, Goody Booth”. This started a witch hunt, they found these people and asked them if they knew anymore names of witches. In McCarthyism there was a Hollywood director named “Elia Kazan”. In the witch hunt trials you could not prove to anyone that someone is a witch. It got to the point where they had to stop using “Spectral Evidence” so they do not get so many accusations. The only way they believed them is if they said “She cursed me with witchcraft”. Since you can not see witchcraft, how can you believe it? They had to take their word for it because they did not want to be accused. McCarthyism did the same thing. During a speech in Wheeling, McCarthy came on stage and said he had a list of 205 names of communists in the Secretary of State. Later after the speech, he wrote a letter to president Truman and the list of 205 went down to 57. The names listed probably were not even true.
