There has been a lot of gun shootings in united states of America in the past few years. Most of the shooting was in schools which lead a lot of people in shock or injured. Why is the U.S becoming such a dangerous country to live in because we just had a shooting at a Florida high school which lead 18 students and teachers to get injured. The U.S is doing nothing about this situation which is causing hundreds of people to die each year. In the article, it says that there were 18 school shootings in the U.S for only 2018 which is really bad because it’s been only 2 months and already 18. I don’t know why the president is saying no to the banning guns because it’s a big threat to this country. Even the citizens of the country are tired of this. The schools are closing down because of all this nonsense that’s caused by shooters. Why would they even want shoot random kids from random schools? The article does explain that some of them were an accident though were considered at school shooting which leads the school to close down. In the article, it says that there were three intentional shootings that didn’t hurt anyone, but I think that they might have …show more content…
If my friends were beside me ducking down hoping that they’re not the ones being shot I’d be into shock right there and then. I’d have to deal with the fact in seconds I could be the next person to be dead or my friends and teachers. After the shooting, if I were to still be there, I wouldn’t be able to live with the fact that a shooting had happened at my school and I was right there close to being shot. Knowing someone in my school possibly my friend if I was in that situation. I know that the school is opening up again. I wouldn’t be able to go back. I would have all those memories in my head. Looking at everyone in the halls wouldn’t be the same anymore, it would be harder to focus on
This world seems to be falling apart, going crazy, or even taking people away out of the blew. One of the main reasons behind that is school shootings. It tends to happen when people think they are taking their kids into a safe environment. School is supposed to be safe, full of kids talking to their friends, teachers, and maybe petting the psychologist’s dog just saying “hi” to the dog. For the longest time school shootings have been climbing, occuring more and more. Everyday, bad things happen which show how humanity is cruel. (table1, Mass Shootings Per Year) this graph is showing how the numbers every year change. Since the year 1982 and 2016, the numbers really do change drastically.
Thirteen people were killed at Columbine High School in 1999, thirty-three died during the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007, and twenty-seven people, twenty of whom were children no older than seven, were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 (Kirk). These name only a few of the larger and most well-known school shooting incidences. In total, 297 people have lost their lives due to school-based shootings since 1980 (Kirk). Although this number may be small in comparison to death by guns overall, these instances are completely unwarranted and it is likely that they could have been avoided or at the very least reduced. These people, college and high school students, teachers, and even children, might still be alive today if our
Connecticut, Georgia, Colorado, Virginia, Oregon, Michigan, and Tennessee are the sites in which some of the most viscous school crimes have occurred. In this day and age it seems as if school isn't a safe haven for America's children anymore. School shootings are on the rise more than ever in today's society with kids as young as 9 years old committing these gruesome crimes against their classmates and instructors. To see this type of action among kids is heartbreaking and sad. People wonder what makes a child want to kill another or how did they get their little hands on such a powerful weapon. Most of the young killers today find it very easy to gain access to guns and bomb making material via the Internet. By using the internet
School shootings have become well known around the world due to the coverage by the media. . These shootings are a serious concern and have parents constantly concerned about their child’s safety when they are at school and also have students thinking twice about any unusual or suspicious behavior. The media appears to play a large part in school shootings and it is important to analyze the deviant behaviors of the shooters in these horrific instances and the fear they create in schools. Does the media play a large part in school shootings or does the media play a large part in the sensationalism of school shootings and the fear they create both in schools and with parents?
their motives for the shooting are different from the protagonist in the middle and high school cases, who broadcast threats in advance to try to reverse their negative reputations and become notorious for the purpose of attracting friends, we found that many high school shooters were ambivalent about following through on their threats, hoping the threat alone might help improve their image in the eyes of their peers. The college shooters are bent on notoriety, but they appear less ambivalent about the attack. This is critical because it impacts the lead up to the shooting. Because high school shooters are looking to attract attention, they let off warning signals that could at least potentially enable those who are within earshot to notify
Arizona is among one of the least restrictive states in the United State when it comes to gun control laws. Arizona allows for anyone, 21 years or older, who does not have a criminal record and therefore is not a prohibit possessor, to own and carry a weapon openly or concealed without requiring a license. Even though there is an age limit, there is no assurance that someone underage is still able to acquire a gun, and therefore risk the lives of others. Rage shootings are among the main causes of school shootings either because of relationships, arguments, or even bullying. Victims range from students, teachers, staff, to police officers.
There has been an average of one school shooting every week in America since the Sandy Hook shooting. On the fourteenth of December, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, 20-year-old Adam Lanza not only killed his mother in her home, but also twenty children and six members of staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This was to be the third deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The Huffington Post reports that as of 2014, there have been over 200 school shootings. These have resulted in at least 94 deaths and over 156 serious and minor injuries. And, with an issue as emotive and contentious as the murder of school children, the question has been frequently asked: why do school shootings happen?
“School shooting is a form of mass shooting involving a gun attack on an educational institution, such as a school or university.” The U.S. secret service defines them as shootings where schools are deliberately selected as the location for the attack. These shootings have sparked a political debate over gun violence, zero tolerance policies and gun control.1 School shootings occur when a student or staff member have mental illnesses or personal problems in their life. Shootings have happened all over the world. The earliest school shooting in the United States was on July 26, 1764 where four Lenape American Indian entered the schoolhouse near Greencastle, Pennsylvania, shot and killed schoolmaster Enoch Brown, and killed ten children.2
Had we not stayed for popcorn, we would've been inside that Macy's at the time Jacob Tyler Roberts walked into that particular store wearing a hockey mask and tactical clothing, firing a stolen AR-15, killing two, wounding several and finally killing himself. While this was a relatively minor shooting, it is one of many in just the past 20 years. Less than six months prior, was the Aurora, CO, movie theater shooting, which left twelve people dead. Newtown, CT, also known as the Sandy Hook Massacre, was just three days later. Both of those were among the most prolific mass killings of our time. We hear about such shootings on the news many times a month. It has become the norm. We have become numb. Having my own personal experience has made me more aware of this growing problem that affects us so
In the United States mass shootings has been a problem for the last few years especially school shootings which occurs often in the country. Why in this country? Well statistics shows that the United States has 31% of all public mass shootings from 1966 to 2012. Although, the percentage has gone up for the last five years. There is a higher risk of dying at school than at any public places. The government and the president of the United States are not treating this problem right and it has become a phenomenon in the country. According to the blog “I Am Adam Lanza’s Mother: A Mom’s Perspective On the Mental Illness Conversation In America” by Liza Long, she discusses her struggles with her mentally ill son and states the lack of help she was getting. She addresses the Sandy Hook incident in Newtown, Connecticut to relate it to her situation and how she fears her son might lead to murderous attack like the Sandy Hook shooting. Many of the causes that lead to school shootings are; lack of gun control, mental health & bullying, and definitely lack of protection at schools.
Research in school shootings have been administered in many categories, including sociology, psychology, and etc. past studies, and direct later studies in school shootings, offers a sociology stand point for understanding the differences of school shooting incidents, including rampage shootings, mass murders shootings, and examining the mass media dynamic of school shootings; as well as presenting a combination of causes said in the research, including those on the individual, community, and social levels. Suggestions for studies in the future in school shootings are still yet to be explored.
The school shootings at Westside Middle School were orchestrated by two juveniles. On Monday, March 30, 1998 two boys ambushed students and teachers outside Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Andrew Golden a youth of 11 years and Mitchell Johnson who was 13 years old were responsible for this hideous tragedy. Apparently, Mitchell Johnson hid in the woods while Andrew set off the fire alarm causing the students and teachers to run out of the building. Armed with three stolen rifles and four handguns, the documentary explained that the two youth flushed kids and teachers out of the school by means of a false fire alarm then opened up on them. When they stopped shooting, four students and a teacher lay dead and 10 students were
Unfortunately, the notion of schools being a safe place is no longer a trend across American schools. Disturbing mass shootings in the U.S continue to shock the media. A school shooting is when someone attacks a school using a gun. The Secret Service says these shootings are "deliberately selected as the location for the attack". The reasons massacres occur in schools is because of poor security, violence in video games/media, and bullying. Shockingly the U.S. has the most school shootings than any other country in the world. According to the FBI, mass shootings occur, on average, every 2 weeks in the U.S. While the cause of school shootings are sometimes unpredictable, it is a growing issue and they need to be prevented. Most shooters don’t have mental issues, they have a plan to kill, so there is no singular cause that creates violent people. On April 16th, 2007, the most deadly school massacre occurred. Seung-Hui Cho killed thirty-two students at Virginia-Tech. As Americans, we no longer should turn on the news and witness these gruesome murders. We try to make sense of these murders, but it’s ineffectual. There are measures we can take as a society to help. The number one question in a school massacre is, "why would a person that has a capable sense of mind even do that?” It is our moral responsibility to fix these issues. In order to stop this problem, we need to find its roots.
Marjory Stoneman High School, Florida, Italy High School, Texas, Marshall County High School, Kentucky and more to name. These are the schools where recent shootings have occurred. The New York TImes stated that 66 people were killed and at least 110 injured in 2017- 2018. Even though schools have been taking action and doing helpful procedure’s, it's not enough. Schools should be more involved then they are now, in case of a real shooting were to occur at our school and must take the right steps to safety.
Mr.Trump want to arming teacher at school. He want to train teacher to delay with shooter. Teacher should attend firearms training. Mr. Trump also want the school protected just like office building, airports and banks. Our country U.S have more shooting case then other countries. Japan never had any shooting mass. Why our country U.S have more victim than other countries? I think our government is not doing anything with these victims. Our government should do something to stop them. What victim actually want? Why they kill students? These victim needs to shop. Students are not safe at school. They lose their life. Victims killed them without any reason. Even those innocent kids didn’t do anything. Also the government should provide more security outside the classes. So, if any student is outside the class or in the restroom. They shouldn't become the target of
